You're not supposed to heat up tinfoil. I learned that the hard way. I was at school and I couldn't find a plate so I just heated up my lunch on tinfoil. There were really big sparks and someone told me you're not supposed to put ti foils in the microwave because it might catch on fire.

Kathryn Livingston You can heat up tinfoil, just not in the microwave. You can use tinfoil in the oven, so using it with a flatiron is safe.
The radiation from the microwave makes sparks, not the heat. People cook with tin foil all the time
