  • tr.ee/T7sSZnpw9z Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.
    We can also use other tools to remove hard ear wax, foreign bodies, peeling dead skin or for ear infection removal.
    All the ear wax cleaning videos you see on our channel are carried out by our ear wax specialists Mr Rhys Barber and Mr Taylor Green.
    We post new ear cleaning videos Monday - Friday at 9PM GMT so if you find ear wax removal satisfying please consider subscribing to our channel.
    Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.
    How to remove ear wax?
    Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!
    How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?
    If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

    I'm a physician in the US. If an audiologist contacted me and told me a patient had AOE, I would just send the prescription -- I wouldn't make the patient come in. Is there a difference in medicolegal practice in the UK that docs make the patient be seen? (I would probably make the patient come in if it was AOM, just because that's systemic antibiotics)

    • @julia2jules
      @julia2jules Год назад +5

      It depends on the gp surgery and their system. My gp surgery has an online request called askmygp. I can type my request, attach a photo of the audiologist letter and send it. Then an admin triages it and either a pharmacist, nurse, paramedic (with additional prescribing qualifications) or a doctor look at it. Providing the audiologists credentials and license are valid then no need to be seen so usually they send a prescription request straight to the pharmacy and email you back. Two to three working days.
      The problem occurs when patients are not confident in using the online system, or the GP practice doesn’t have enough of the right staff and correct systems.
      There is also a huge shortage of healthcare professionals uk wide, especially in more rural areas.

      I just got my first ear infection. I have like stabbing pain in my ear constant ringing . Especially after a genuine yawn or hiccup. This is legitimately one of the worst pains I've felt in my life, a little bit less worse than getting my multiple impacted wisdom teeth removed and not taking the supplied percocets.. I never take pain medicine but I had to then, and I had to take some ibuprofen today. Does this generally get better after a day? Any remedies besides cold/warm compress and ibuprofen?

    It’s a nightmare getting an appointment with the doctor, especially if a person is in so much pain, the thought of waiting 2 weeks to get seen is madness! If anyone is struggling with this you can see a nurse practitioner as they can prescribe antibiotics. Ear infections can be one of the most painful things ever! I’m still so very grateful for antibiotics, before it’s discovery ppl must have suffered unimaginable pain, so glad I’m alive in this century!
