I have opened ~500 cases till now, my inventory is more than double of my expenses. I will say it's just luck. Not everyone is lucky and it will give you more regret than happiness.
I have a theory buying in bulk is actually better than single purchases. If it’s true that items in cases are pre-generated before being opened, if you think of the market as a conveyor belt with all the items equally distributed, it would make more sense to pick a larger selection in contrast to just individually picking slots. Opening the same amount of cases both methods, I’ve made more profit from the bulk option. Edit: Case 1 - I spent roughly $600-800 over the course of 3 years on cases only acquiring a highest value item of $60. Case 2 - I spent roughly $650 in 1 day on cases and unboxed an $80 set of gloves, a $680 set of gloves, and an $80 Deagle Printstream.
To be honest some skins that are cheaper than the case and keys themselves are also super worth getting like magnesium, oxide blaze and phobos, all of which are cheaper than buying the key for a singular case

CS2 is not some brand new revolutionary game, its just like CSGO but rebuilt from the ground up with new and improved technology. OW2 is literally just OW with a big content update, but neither are a new game its just a new version of the same experience.

opening cases is literally gambling, you can often get decent / good looking skins for less than the price of a case from third party websites or even from selling your ingame drops on steam and then buying from the market

I don't have any gambling addiction but sometimes when I'm drinking with my friends I offer them a quick session of me opening cases, nothing crazy, like 5-10 cases. I always know that now I'll spend some money just for the sake of fun and get back 10% or less in return. And during one of these sessions I somehow managed to pull out a knife from the first case. I was more than happy and expecting like any regular knife, but I saw the ursus doppler name, looked at the skin itself - it was full red, looked at the skin name again and I realized that it was ruby. Oh boy, that was a rollercoaster of emotions, I literally could not believe my eyes: years of watching csgo cases highlights and now I was standing there with my laptop in my shaking hands observing this 3k dollars knife. One of life dreams checkmarked :) Nevertheless, cases is like casino: sometimes you win something, but most of the time you lose all of your money. If you are not ready for that, don't do it

I used to play a lot of csgo back in like 2015-2019. Got a lot of cases in drops, never touched them because they were worth like $0.04 each. When cs2 started getting hype, I decided to play a few more rounds of CSGO, I got another case, and didn't recognize it. I checked the price because some times new cases sell for $0.50 or so, realized ALL of my cases were worth between $1 - $7, sold all of them for $164 ez.
As someone who started playing in 2023 what I did when I got a case was sell it for either items or such and rather then open cases I just did trade ups to get better items

Last month i did around 60 gamma 2 cases and in last 15 i dropped 2 knifes , i wanted karambit so bad but instead i got M9 free hand and flip knife lore .... I would say it is good to test your luck once and open like 10 cases , but it is like any other gamble - you need to know when to stop. Idk how many cases i did open but it would be a lot over the whole time. Like hundreds even maybe 1k And only 5 knifes.
