Baya weavers are fantastic nest builders. Looking really cute too.
    10,000 black-tailed godwits, that’s a lot!
    Must be an unforgettable experience.
    Nice share.

Lotens Sunbird - check the beak!

Loten's Sunbird is one of my absolute faves amongst the sunbirds! Not only because its rather restricted distribution, or its lovely but discreet colours (male), but the BEAK! it's magnificent ;-)

Love your birding videos! Are Sri Lankan birds easy to find and to video/photo?

    • @Hummingbirder1

Thank you! To answer your question: mostly "no". You probably need a guide to get the endemics, since many of them are forest birds. The forest is thick and moist and full of leeches (ugh!), some of them are skulkers as well and those are never easy to photograph.

Hmm... I don't properly remember which videocam I used for this trip, I've been unlucky with them so this is at least the second one. It's a cheaper model of Panasonic, bought in fall of 2013. I think it broke down somewhere after the Yala safari day. The rest of the trip therefore just my camera (Canon 7D Mark II) which sucks to film with, hence not much video the last few days of the trip. By then I was so fed up with treasonous videocameras that I didn't buy a new one for years!
My partner bought a real cheap one when we went to South Africa 2018, and it's still OK which is a small miracle. So it followed me to NW India 2019 as well.
Sadly, I'm a birder first, a photographer second and the remembering to use the videocam really come in last, so I never get enought footage! I keep forgetting to use it.
I've upgraded to a 4k Panasonic now, will be interesting to try it out. It's a little bigger and doesn't fit as easily in a vest pocket!
