Im an L&D nurse and screen for murmurs on our babies. Extremely helpful! My 3 year old daughter was just diagnosed with a murmur as well and we are waiting to hear what the next step is. I listened to it myself and I know now that it’s a diastolic murmur. Hoping it’s benign 🤞🏻
I have a peds test with cardio coming up in 2 hours for NP school. Listened to this while driving the kids. I learned more from this video while driving then in my whole class. Thank u
Very easy & fun way to learn heart murmurs. Started my work at NICU & you helped me alot. Thanks a bunch. Expecting more videos from you. I will always come here if I need more help. Keep on inspiring.
This was superb. I had fun watching. I could close my eyes and still understand the murmurs. Now I have only 1 suggestion to maybe tie it together. Add a video of the heart with the murmurs you’re describing and/or the picture of where they are occurring. Regardless I learned wayyyyy more than reading the textbook. Thank you sooooo much ❤️
That truly means so much to me. Thank you. I will look at making a video with the murmurs and the heart to make it even more visual. Thanks for the feedback 🥰
I absolutely love the refreshing way you presented the information in your video! Thank you so much for the insight and may you never lose the vigor you bring to teaching!
Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your feedback. LOL...I know if I don't make it as a doctor...i can always try my hand at beatbox 🤣. Nah..maybe I'll stick to my day job.
Awesome explanation, primo!! I understood these heart murmur sounds more from this video than from any class or book. Excellent way of teaching! Thank you and keep the videos coming. Abrazos ♥
That's very cool! I gave a webinar talk last year and the questions were so smart. I hope to be invited to visit and give a talk one day. Best of luck!❤

LOL. You are too kind. I'm a terrible NNP! 🤣. I'm always learning from some great experienced practitioners... you will find some for sure. Best of luck and thanks for the wonderful compliment. 🙏 . PDA video coming soon!
Thanks for your comment. Of course...although subarachnoid and subdural hematomas are less common than intraventricular hemorrhage in the NICU. I'll work on it
I was born with a heart murmur but don't really understand what that means. Now though since I had fainted in the 5th grade I learned I have an abnormal resting beat
A heart murmur is in its simplest form...an type of "blowing" or "rushing" sound that can be heard when you listen to the heart with a stethoscope (that tool that all doctors carry around their neck to look even more doctorly 🤣). Some murmurs are normal and not worrisome...others mean there is a real problem in the heart. Anytime you hear of someone fainting...whether with or without a murmur...that definitely warrants an immediate evaluation from the doctor. Abnormal rhythms in the heart can be normal or can be pretty serious...so important to have a specialist evaluate all heart rhythms...especially if causing fainting.
It is also called Still's murmur.. a soft, low tone, systolic murmur found in children (commonly in adolescents) that varies with position and there are no symptoms associated (no cyanosis, passing out, shortness of breath etc). It has to do with the sound of flowing blood in a thin and "stretching" body. Hope this helps
@Irfan Kar it is obviously the width of the opening...and depends on the age of a patient. it also means that it will need to be followed to determine closure. Also important in general to follow vital signs and clinical changes in a child.
sir my 2 year old baby having fast heart beat my doctor said to take echo test and said haemic murmur i am so worried about this please explain about this..
Fast heart rate can occur due to anemia, if this is what is meant by "haemic murmur." Anemia or low hemoglobin can cause the body to increase its heart rate as a form of response to get more oxygen to the rest of the body. This higher rate (and flow) causes this extra noise (or murmur). But please discuss this with your pediatrician to make sure. Hope this helps. 🙏
Premature infants commonly have murmurs due to structures that take longer to close, like the PDA or PFO. But yes... I can't say anything about your little one.. but it's not uncommon to find out later in life.
Yes..innocent murmur or stills murmur for example are common in adolescence. It has to do with the flow of blood and the shape and proximity of the heart to the chest. Some murmurs are benign, in that they cause no harm, such as a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This is a normal and natural whole between the two top chambers of the heart, the atria. This closes in nearly all babies and therefore considered benign.
@@irfankar7382 unfortunately I can't give medical advice on social media. Please contact your pediatrician if you are concerned. Hope you understand and hope your little one is ok
No...murmurs and S sounds are separate. Murmurs are flow sounds that come between any of the S-sounds. Murmurs are mostly longer and represent flow. S-sounds are more like "beats." Short, quick, and "thumpy." Hope this helps
Thanks for reaching out. Murmurs can be very common. I can't speak directly about your infant but murmurs after the first week should be evaluated with an echocardiogram. I truly hope it is nothing complicated 🙏
