The other neat thing about this show, is that it really wasn't a typical anime. It stood out while still being a relatively quiet, slice-of-life cartoon, going for a much more round artstyle to match the games. It had a weird mix of 2D/3D, which not a lot of anime was really doing at the time. And the parodies! Oh, the parodies. The Kirby anime lampooned everything - sometimes whole episodes were dedicated to a parody - from Jurassic Park, to the Exorcist, to Harry Potter, to Armageddon, to Gone with the Wind, to Mothra, to Walt Disney/Richard Simmons, to stuff like Goodbye Mr Chips (?!). One episode parodied creation of anime and stuff like camera movement hiding lack of animation, live booth voice recording, etc. It's a bit of a shame 4Kids took so many liberties with the show. Almost ALL of the on-screen text on signs, books, etc. in the original was in english, and 4Kids still scrubbed it out, leaving camera shots of blank books and signs. And much as Dedede has a great English voice, I actually grew to really like his original Japanese voice. His laugh is fantastic.

6:15- Well, the interesting thing is that in the original version, he's a bully who takes picking on people to an extreme level. In the dub, he's just a murderous psychopath. Funny how 4kids took the more twisted approach with him. Though when you went into criticisms of the show, I was kind of hoping you'd touch up on more than the changes 4kids made, like how Metaknight's purpose 95% of the time is to be a, ahem, 'Kirbydex' for his transformations and how choppy the CGI can look for the majority of the character it's used for. (Though it does work surprisingly well for Kirby) Though an interesting thing to note about the two episodes they skipped, they eventually dubbed them after the series finale. I don't know whether to applaud them for taking the time to fill the gap or question why it took them so long.
Allmond 226 It's shame that the German cast didn't do all episodes. Dedede's Mr.Krabs voice is awsome and German Escargon is the master of sarcasm because Michael Pan let him sound WAY more sarcastic than Ted Lewis. But still their English voices are great, too(The Southern accent is hilarious). Dedede and Escargon are both voiced by Ted Lewis.

This is a really nicely researched review, good job! :D I'm the one who's been subbing the Japanese version so it is easy to say which version I prefer :P I also wish they'd just release the show digitally again- they briefly did on the Wii Channel but unfortunately I didn't get recordings of those and mostly have to rely on old Japanese VHS. x_x Anyway, to answer a few questions you posed- The Kirby anime was mainly made in order to get more people familiar with Kirby, especially outside of Japan. That's why they don't copy the game plots- because they wanted it to be accessible to kids who had never even touched the games. (For that reason I wouldn't even call the show an adaptation, but more of a supplement to the game series.) And it's why they did a 'monster of the week' sort of setup that kids would be familiar with. It actually worked pretty well to increase Kirby's popularity. Also, Kirby in the games may not be a Star Warrior, but he also isn't native to Dream Land! He's said to have just arrived one day 'on a spring breeze', so that bit is the same at least :)

Honestly I prefer the Japanese version so much more, seeing the English version of this anime just seems so weird. I never knew king dedede had a southern accent. And the names of everything changed so it’s so strange lol, like fumu becoming tiff, bun which became tuff, pupupu land becoming cappy town? It’s so interesting too. I’ll still continue watching the Japanese version though. And tbh seeing all that in the video I prefer the Japanese version of tiff more because she’s more of a mature uptight girl who’s trying to keep everyone safe and is always worried, then again. These are all children, we can’t expect them to be gentle with kirby since they think that he’s gonna be the one to save them all even when he’s a baby technically. (Btw I’m still currently watching the Japanese version somewhere near episode 30 or whatever might update this when I finish the series)

First of all, awesome work! I only very recently discovered this channel, and this video made a great first impression! This show has always been a weird one. Although I think a series of five to ten minute shorts fit the nature of the _Kirby_ series better, the crew did an excellent job executing this. Heck, even 4KIDS did a good job given I find it to be one of their better dubs. The show is definitely one of the better adaptations alongside _Animal Crossing: The Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog OVA,_ and _Pokémon._ Tiff and Tuff, while not my favorite characters in the world, are actually enjoyable. Unlike Chris of _Sonic X,_ they have enough likable traits to balance their more annoying traits. This was a long comment. '^_^

the show actually is what brought me to the kirby franchise (alongside with amazing mirror) and since forgotten land came out, i decided to rewatch the anime and it was so nice watching it again after all these years, i felt like a little kid again. This also prompted me to search for my old gba, i couldnt find the gameboy itself but i found the amazing mirror cartridge i had gotten. Im really glad i decided to re watch the series because now im back into kirby and i love it so much
Reason for watching Japanese version: Seeing the missing scenes and episodes, good voices despite not being able to understand what they're saying without captions, getting to see the proper order of the episodes. Reason for watching 4kids version: Mexican Meta Knight, Groovy as fuck intro, and of course, *CLOBBA DAT KERBEH!!!*
All of the new abilities they added in the show were either already an ability or soon became an ability And since the abilities in those episode were design by fans and water Kirby in Kirby GCN used the same design from the show A fan created the water Kirby ability

Back when I was a lil' squeaker, I'd watch nothing but anime, and primarily THIS would be the cream of the corn of my day. At first, I thought it was quite ridiculous, until I went more into the episodes and realized how accurate it was to the source material. Sure, I haven't played the games prior to watching the show, but by golly did I recognize some things that made a return to Super Smash Bros. Brawl like Metaknight and his airship. I still have a disc from RedBox containing a few episodes and I should really watch them again. The only things that freaked me out were when the animation went 3D at times, but I can leave it at that. You definitely nailed what I experienced and I'm glad I could remember most of the points of the show you put here. You totally deserve more attention.

Childhood right here. It was aired at 5 or 6 am here in Mexico so I'd wake up and watch my Kirby before going to Elementary school. I remember watching the fight against Nightmare before going to school haha. I don't remember much about the series however so maybe I'll try to find the episodes and watch them, definitely subbed; I need that original Kirby music in the anime. They haven't forgotten about it, Devil Kirby appears in Star Allies (it's very similar).
You know that the title spells out K.R.B.A.Y, which obviously sounds like Kirby, so it is probably a cheesy title on purpose. I do love the show though, and I thought the 4 kids one was not different or worse, so thanks for opening up my view to see more on this! You did a great job!

Ok, I like JUST started watching this show, and then this video comes out. Really nice video! When you said “They skipped the dentist episode but allowed THIS to air-“ I half expected to see a clip from Shell Shocked. (Also I hate to be ‘that guy’ but the Dentist episode wasn’t skipped, it was just aired as one of the last 10 episodes)
I first experienced Kirby Right Back at Ya on Kirby's Dream Collection. I even remember my mom buying me the 5-part special (100th episode). I honestly really enjoyed the series and I kinda want Nintendo and HAL to bring it back somehow.
i think the reason that kirby got a first anime is because kirby was something that everyone liked kirbys cute and there is alot they could work with into something enjoyable. whereas mario is a little harder to work with because when the first mario came out there wasnt much to him, he was a guy in a red had that jumped on koopas.
I think it's important to note that Nightmare in Dream Land for the GBA was this show's marketing counterpart. That game was tons of fun. And I don't think many kids or even teens who might have been watching would have ever in touched the game it was based off of, Kirby's Adventure for the NES, released in 1993. I was 12 when this anime came out. So basically, it was a mix of really cliche cartoon stuff, really adorable Kirby stuff, some surprisingly edgy and clever stuff, and a couple of very awesome/dramatic/hilarious/weird moments in a few of the episodes. It's probably best to just watch some of the best episodes, like the where they make a freaking anime on their own. That's where half the Kirby anime memes come from.
Right Back at Ya was actually the first time I was introduced to Kirby (Besides Brawl and also that I was pretty young). Then I went on to play Super Star Ultra out of curiosity and then noticed lots of inconsistencies between the two. That being said, I don't recall disliking the show at all. I haven't watched it all though, just probably at least 50% of the episodes, including the first episode and the last episodes.
As a dude who was born in 2000, I loved playing Kirby, even as a baby, I always played the GBA version of Kirby's Adventure... however, I never knew this show existed and I'm upset about that... Cause I would've actually had something to watch on TV.

Watched almost the whole show in English on RUclips. I love this show and was actually disappointed that Meta Knight in smash bros doesn't have the accent!
Also the anime is probably the main reason of Meta Knight's new heroic role in the games.
First of all, awesome work! I only very recently discovered this channel, and this video made a great first impression!
This show has always been a weird one. Although I think a series of five to ten minute shorts fit the nature of the _Kirby_ series better, the crew did an excellent job executing this. Heck, even 4KIDS did a good job given I find it to be one of their better dubs. The show is definitely one of the better adaptations alongside _Animal Crossing: The Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog OVA,_ and _Pokémon._
Tiff and Tuff, while not my favorite characters in the world, are actually enjoyable. Unlike Chris of _Sonic X,_ they have enough likable traits to balance their more annoying traits.

It’s one of the most memeable anime out there in the 4Kids dub and honestly there’s so many great moments. I loved the ending to the series too. Honestly watched this series twice. Great show, even if I watched the 4Kids dub I can’t deny they did a great job

the show actually is what brought me to the kirby franchise (alongside with amazing mirror) and since forgotten land came out, i decided to rewatch the anime and it was so nice watching it again after all these years, i felt like a little kid again. This also prompted me to search for my old gba, i couldnt find the gameboy itself but i found the amazing mirror cartridge i had gotten. Im really glad i decided to re watch the series because now im back into kirby and i love it so much

Reason for watching Japanese version: Seeing the missing scenes and episodes, good voices despite not being able to understand what they're saying without captions, getting to see the proper order of the episodes.
Reason for watching 4kids version: Mexican Meta Knight, Groovy as fuck intro, and of course,

All of the new abilities they added in the show were either already an ability or soon became an ability

Back when I was a lil' squeaker, I'd watch nothing but anime, and primarily THIS would be the cream of the corn of my day. At first, I thought it was quite ridiculous, until I went more into the episodes and realized how accurate it was to the source material. Sure, I haven't played the games prior to watching the show, but by golly did I recognize some things that made a return to Super Smash Bros. Brawl like Metaknight and his airship. I still have a disc from RedBox containing a few episodes and I should really watch them again. The only things that freaked me out were when the animation went 3D at times, but I can leave it at that.
You definitely nailed what I experienced and I'm glad I could remember most of the points of the show you put here. You totally deserve more attention.

Childhood right here. It was aired at 5 or 6 am here in Mexico so I'd wake up and watch my Kirby before going to Elementary school. I remember watching the fight against Nightmare before going to school haha. I don't remember much about the series however so maybe I'll try to find the episodes and watch them, definitely subbed; I need that original Kirby music in the anime. They haven't forgotten about it, Devil Kirby appears in Star Allies (it's very similar).

You know that the title spells out K.R.B.A.Y, which obviously sounds like Kirby, so it is probably a cheesy title on purpose. I do love the show though, and I thought the 4 kids one was not different or worse, so thanks for opening up my view to see more on this! You did a great job!
Ooooo, I actually didn't know that. I'm really curious if that was intentional or not. I completely agree though, I don't feel like you're missing out on much by watching the 4Kids version. The original Japanese version does have the superior soundtrack however, as it features music from the actual Kirby games.

meta knight's sword,galaxia,got its start in kirby's adventure. it just got its name in the anime.
Kirby is basically a Pokemon and Tiff is his trainer.

I first experienced Kirby Right Back at Ya on Kirby's Dream Collection. I even remember my mom buying me the 5-part special (100th episode). I honestly really enjoyed the series and I kinda want Nintendo and HAL to bring it back somehow.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but the fact that the title implies you've never heard of K:RBAY appalls me.
i think the reason that kirby got a first anime is because kirby was something that everyone liked kirbys cute and there is alot they could work with into something enjoyable. whereas mario is a little harder to work with because when the first mario came out there wasnt much to him, he was a guy in a red had that jumped on koopas.
I think it's important to note that Nightmare in Dream Land for the GBA was this show's marketing counterpart. That game was tons of fun. And I don't think many kids or even teens who might have been watching would have ever in touched the game it was based off of, Kirby's Adventure for the NES, released in 1993.
I was 12 when this anime came out. So basically, it was a mix of really cliche cartoon stuff, really adorable Kirby stuff, some surprisingly edgy and clever stuff, and a couple of very awesome/dramatic/hilarious/weird moments in a few of the episodes.
It's probably best to just watch some of the best episodes, like the where they make a freaking anime on their own. That's where half the Kirby anime memes come from.

Right Back at Ya was actually the first time I was introduced to Kirby (Besides Brawl and also that I was pretty young). Then I went on to play Super Star Ultra out of curiosity and then noticed lots of inconsistencies between the two.
That being said, I don't recall disliking the show at all. I haven't watched it all though, just probably at least 50% of the episodes, including the first episode and the last episodes.
I watched all 100 episodes on RUclips. No watermelon unwatched/unseen.
I love Kirby
I didn't mind it. I really got a kick out of listening to Eggman being the mayor of the town.
As a dude who was born in 2000, I loved playing Kirby, even as a baby, I always played the GBA version of Kirby's Adventure... however, I never knew this show existed and I'm upset about that... Cause I would've actually had something to watch on TV.
