NOTHING return with their highly anticipated new full-length, The Great Dismal. Recorded entirely during quarantine, The Great Dismal explores existentialist themes of isolation, extinction, and human behavior in the face of 2020’s vast wasteland. The Great Dismal is out October 30th on LP/CD/CS/Digital via Relapse Records.
Closing in on the band’s ten-year mark, NOTHING frontman Domenic Palermo finds himself stringing together songs of misanthropic tales of Philadelphia with a refined and refreshed take on the band’s classic sound.
“The Great Dismal refers to a swamp, a brilliant natural trap where survival is custom fit to its inhabitants,” Palermo states. “The nature of its beautiful, but taxing environment and harsh conditions can’t ever really be shaken or forgotten too easily.”
The ever progressive NOTHING keep true to their chaotic outlook on life, keeping a keen eye as to avoid repetition. With a radical cast of talented contributors such as harpist Mary Lattimore, classical musician Shelley Weiss, and singer/songwriter/producer Alex G., The Great Dismal showcases yet another essential side of the band’s trademark American Post-Shoegaze.

This song is completely infectious; I've had it on repeat now for three days solid. Hundreds of times by now.
I like how modern artists are taking a classic approach to their music. They’re doing what works and not just what looks and sounds new. It’s fresh in contrast to the 2010’s how everything was all about being new, clean ,pristine, and overproduced. This particular style of music that seems to combine grunge, alternative metal, and shoegaze into one is going to be huge
no clue what you're talking about, "classic approach" from what i've heard so far this is their most heavily produced album yet.
i've been following these guys for about 8 years now, if they didn't blow up with GoE or ToT then it's not gonna happen.

That’s like nothing in the music industry no pun intended lmfao do you not realize that good bands and music don’t just pop into existence at the top of the charts?? The Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of the most successful bands of all time didn’t reach the mainstream until ELEVEN YEARS after they began releasing music. Same situation with Pink Floyd and a number of other bands throughout history you twat. Bands and rock music in general didn’t exactly have a fair chance in the 2010’s given that “successful” music throughout the decade was only found in pop and hip hop. You can’t become a successful act if you’re releasing the wrong kind of music in the wrong musical climate so please take your negative Nancy ass out of here ma’am.
none of this matters and a “classic approach” meaning they pay tribute to their influences while still being able to add something new. Not doing just what’s viewed as “new” rather than doing something that’s more effective, condescending ass-wipe. Your pessimism is highly unrealistic.

Nothing is one of the biggest names on relapse...keep them signed it would be a shame to lose em. They are building their fan base and they'll be big on this scene. Best ever on the album
This sounds absolutely amazing. Will Yip is truly a god and is gonna go down as the Butch Vig and Steve Albini of his time. If this is any indication of the record, this will probably be their best release yet, which is a VERY welcome return after how horribly produced Blacktop was and how many bad songs were on it.
i loved blacktop :0 agree that it didn't sound great though, have a copy on vinyl and that's no better

@@kaizen9451 Blue Line Baby is a top 3 Nothing song for me. But the record only had 9 songs and 2 of them are terrible in my opinion. Wind Me Up and Us/We/Are are absolutely awful songs with super boring, generic riffs and vocals with the latter just sounding like a terrible Creep ripoff. Hail On Palace is mid to me but that's not a great ratio when your 9 song album has 2 bad songs and 1 mid / ehh song. I also hate the drum production on that record.

My biggest regret is using Blacktop as the first Nothing album I listened to. This was months ago.

@ Norlander Duwallis they are super heavy. I actually know Ethan decently well and he’s a great guy(im from Denver) but scorn is the only memorable album by them imo. Their stuff is heavy as fuck but the second it’s off I don’t remember a thing about it. If I’m gonna listen to slower stuff I’d rather listen to bongzilla, conan, the body etc. I respect your opinion though!
