“The less you desire, the less you acquire.” YAASSSSS! I’m picking up what you just put down.
YASSSS JENNIFERRRR!!!!!! You get my vibe! LOL!
I keep my hot water tank on lowest point. 20-30 mins before shower I turn it up then turn it back down when done with shower. So other than a shower, it is on low. I only wash large loads of laundry and only with cold water. I hang dry my clothes on racks in front of vent in laundry area. I catch rain water to water plants. I use emergency plug in units in the pathway of the house. They stay on low like night lights, but when being a certain distance they come on brighter to light the way. Motion lights. I only use led bulbs that mimic about 20 watts of light in each room. I have a small light on kitchen counter I keep on all night that is 2 watts. I use power strips that have individual on and off switches for each outlet on the strip. Power is off when things are not in use. I use a small solar generator with solar panel that powers the 2 freezer chests in garage. I keep central air on 70 and use 8 inch fans angled upward in front of 4 vents so they circulate the air through my one floor square ranch house. I use lowest setting which is 13 watts. I use blackout curtains and drapes throughout the house to which ever side of the house the sun is on throughout the day. The drapes are only open to the shaded side of house to let in natural light so I use no lights in the daytime. I do all work, showers, cleaning during light hours so I am not using extra powered lights at night. I have 12 solar stake lights, I think 20 lumens...bright, in front and in back of house. They nicely light up property, especially in the winter for bright reflection off the snow. I also have various solar lights within the dogwood trees that line the back patio. Lol....there are tons of things to cut costs on everything. Research.... research....research...
@@jahart358Hello.Im thinking about washing clothes with cold water roo. Is this going to help my utility bill?
My vice is Amazon. It renews tomorrow and I’m canceling Prime. It’s now $139 a year. No way. I’m saving $139 plus all the impulse buys especially books! I’m using the library more and reading all the unread books sitting around my house. A win win!!!
Hey if you are in canada theres an app. Called libby & its free if you have a library card.
I cancelled mine yestarday! ❤️
My husband decided we had too many towels and that the kids were using too many, so he literally gave everyone just two towels and put the rest in the storage shed!😂😂
Love this!
You quote the "the less you desire, the less you acquire" reminds me of a quote that I love which is "the way to happiness is not to add to your wants, but subtract from your desires"
Love that!
Giving up processed sugar this year. I haven't had a dessert-cookies, cake, candy, pie, etc since 12/28/22. Moving on to other areas that have sugar in them. 💜
WAY TO GO LAURA!
Well done!
I just ate 3 marshmallows! Ugh! I'm cutting out sugar. I have to get rid of them.
I use mason jars to store dry foods, left-overs, freezer foods, etc. I try to reduce or, better yet, eliminate plastics.
Me too.
Make your own condiments!!!! Make a small condiment, dressings, sauces, gravies, dips recipe book of your favorites you eat. Super easy and save a ton of money!!!!
Ooooh thanks Victoria!!!
Making homemade mayo takes less than 2 minutes with a emulsion blender and glass Ball jar. I only use avocado oil and whole ingredients. I never buy mayo now. Just started making homemade Ranch dressing so much healthier than all the awful bad oils and chemicals in reg ranch. All recipes found on RUclips.
@@Sonoragrove4 I’ve started this too, so far only salad dressing. I have the stuff to make mayo and mustard. I make spice blends, pancakes and waffles mix.
Just made some ketchup. Saves money but also cuts down on sugar and sodium.
I don’t have many vices. I don’t drink or smoke. But I do eat too many sweets. My general rule is I only eat homemade sweets. If I want something, I have to take the time and effort to make it. It’s an imperfect system, but it helps. And what I make is generally healthier then store bought.
I agree about wasting water. My husband leaves the water running when he brushes his teeth and while he’s washing his hands. Drives me crazy:) I also hate lights being left on when people are not in the room. I started using glass jars from grocery items to put sugar and other things in instead of plastic containers.
Hi Darlyne! Thank youuuu!!!!
My husband is exactly the same! And it drives me nuts too. We live in an army base so utilities is all included 0:08 in his housing payment but it doesn’t mean we’re gonna waste water. Just because we are ‘not paying’ mean we can waste it.
I keep clothespins in my kitchen, clipped to a wire shelf in plain view, I use them to clip shut tightly any packages that I open. Especially cereal, snacks, crackers etc. Especially if they are things we use daily, saving my air tight containers for things that we store long term.
I use binder clips for that!
Great tips. I use empty food glass jars like Ragu, clean them with alcohol then put pasta, rice, quinoa, etc for storage. Food last longer and they are free.
I totally agree about wasting water! I love to start a load of wash before I get in the shower so that the hot water is ready to go right when I turn the shower on. Feels so good to not waste that water!
i do that in the summer when the water is super hot because of the pipes being boiled outside in 40degrees celcius. the water goes already warm in the washing machine (less electricity) and i can enjoy a lukewarm /cool shower to refresh after the beach
Moment of transparency….I used to be pretty wasteful. I was so busy I didn’t take time out to look for areas where I could cut back. One game changer for me was making a menu for the week so I could trim the fat in my grocery list. I used to buy random food items at the grocery store anticipating what I “might cook.” I never paid much attention to it bc we have to eat so I might as well buy food but it was wasteful and my grocery bill has decreased considerably. We have to be more intentional with our spending especially in this economy.
Love this! Thanks for sharing with us!
I'm guilty of running the shower before I get in. I like the idea of putting a container in there to use the water for my plants. Always learning something new on your channel. Thanks. Have a great weekend.
I live by myself so i have lots of free space in my refrigerator and freezer. I keep LOTS of one gallon milk jugs full of frozen water in both refrig and freezer. It prevents you from cooling “dead air” empty space.
I just got a housemate. Im old enough to be her mother. She is a student at a local seminary. She is awesome! Extra $500 a month!
I can wash my hair and wash my body in 6 minutes.
I thouroughly rinse out every drop of soap, shampoo, hand soap, travel size samples, etc and put in in a the hand soap bottle i am currently using.
Five years ago i was wearing high end makeup. Today, i have found recommended duplicates that i like BETTER.
I decided i had to cut out salon visits to cover my gray hair. I found a clairol color (6g) for under $10 at walmart and now i cut my own hair ( i pull my hair high on my head with a pony tail holder and with sharp larger sewing scissors i lop off about 3 inches. I have never gotten so many compliments on my shoulder length layer hair that i smooth with the revlon smoothing brush.
I unplug every electrical appliance i am not using…kitchen mixer, lamps, etc. the only things i leaved plugged in are the things too big to move like oven, washer, dryer….things like that.
I am taking much better care of my belongings to make them look better and last longer. And mentally it helps my outlook.
I am paying $25 with att for cell phone service. Soon i am going to try out mint mobile for $15 a month. You tuber Prepped Princess swears by mint mobile.
I have a 36 hour a week job as a housemom for a maternity job, i teach sewing classes one night a week at a college, i volunteer at a hospital retail store just to gain some more usable skills and to get me around people because i am an introvert.
I have discover walmart carries the best womens pajamas called Joyheart. They wash beautifully, the fabric is high quality with no see through, the styles at on point. And they actually run big so you can size down.
I own very few clothes. Probably 4 “work” outfits that are professional and came from walmart. I wear them year round by layering them with a cardigan sweater and leggings for winter. Wear them alone when it gets hot. With me mixing and matching, i easily get over 100 wearing from each peice per 2 years.
The two biggest money wasters for me are wasting food and allowing my weight to fluxuate rendering my wandrobe unusable and then i have to go buy more. Even if i shop at walmart, i am not being a good steward of my finances.
Hi Janie! Thanks so much for sharing with us:)
I’m with you on the towels after a shower, I too have a hook on the door. I just cut out most sugar also, I love my chocolate but realized it was increasing the grocery budget. Stopped buying chips, substituted with pork rinds I get my crunchy snack with no carbs or sugar. I unplugged the items that are not used often, I was amazed at how much it reduced my electric bill.
❤❤❤ love love love your 5 points!!! These are exactly the points I had to teach my American husband when he started to live with me here in Europe 😅😂 "honey, the shower is running... remember, it takes only few seconds from the hot water tank to the shower.."
When I declutter the fridge, guess who shopped things, opened it, and then never used it up? 😂😂😂
He is getting much better over the years. I love him tons!
Love this!
I avoid ruined cereal by only having one box open at a time, or at most, two. I drink almond milk and it lasts a lot longer than dairy, so I never have spoiled milk. I also don’t buy more until I’m out!
Good idea!
Uggh! my fridge was a “condiment closet!” of mostly empty bottles and jars. We no longer buy most ready made condiments. We try to make small amounts of what we need. I hang my worn once clothes outside (under cover) overnight to air and re-wear. This was a great video Kate! Lots of great easy practical tips! Thanks💕
If wearing something presentable to dash down to shops when back home take off and put back on "house" clothes to save on washing.
Suggestion: if you ever have something stuck to your refrigerator shelves again, place a wet paper towel or washcloth on the spots, forget about it for a while (10 minutes), then go wipe it up. No more struggle or scraping. Works on other surfaces as well.
A lot of the things you mentioned, I am already doing. One bath towel, turn off the water, etc. I arrange my pantry, like things together, and try to use the things I already have. Cutting back on the sugar foods is excellent, fruit and yogurt are better snacks. Fresh fruit does not always stay fresh long enough, but many fruits come frozen, just take what you need and put the rest back in the freezer. I do veggies the same.
I also bought those containers from Amazon with great expectations of being Pinterest worthy organized. But I don’t buy bulk items or things that I would need them for…. Most are sitting clean, on the top shelf empty. I hope you find them more useful. The ones I use, I cut the original package (instructions, exp date) and put it in the container. I don’t drink coffee or soda, water is my thing, but I do drink tea, one tea bag lasts all day, I just add more water, microwave it…. All is good.
I really enjoy your channel and look forward to the new posts. I’m frugal and happy.
Thank you so much for that tip! I will try that next time! I was scraping for a bit! Thank goodness that tool was pretty effective, but your way seems even easier. Thank you! That had never happened before in my fridge! I was like wait, WHAT is happening here???? :):)
Linda I am so glad you are here! And I love that you are frugal and happy! See you next post!!!
To clean glass jars fully after washing them I store them (without the lids of course) in the roasting tray in the oven when the tray is full (I would utilise other rungs as well if necessary) I turn on oven for a while to sterilise them, and when oven cools they are lidded for storage in cardboard wine boxes (with the cardboard inserts still in them) as dividers.
Back in the day, those 7/24/365 day housewives removed the parts and washed down the refrigerator interior once per week. This way you do work through the fridge but over the course of multiple weeks rather than each week. In a modern era, consider removing and washing individual drawers, shelves, and areas of the fridge once per week or every other week. For us, when say the condiments and cooking sauces start to take up too much refrigerator real estate, I begin to meal plan around using up some of the bottles, jars, and things.
Back in the day, people also defrosted their freezers at least once per year, emptied their dry goods shelves and wiped them down once per year, and did a complete reorganizing of their dry goods shelves once every 6 months. In this process, many made extra effort to eat down the contents of their freezers and pantry shelves leading up these cleaning and organizing efforts; and put extra emphasis on eating through things discovered after the fact. Working towards some sort of a similar cadence helps keep one for finding items 5 years out of date in a back corner.
Hi Terry, thank you so much for sharing with us! Great share!
No water left running. Hand washing, I bought one of those automatic soap dispenser that I followed with water instead of soap. Perfect to wet hands before washing them. I just turn on the water to rinse them. Tooth brushing, I fill up a glass.
Shower, I do use a bucket to collect water while it's heating up. I use that water to hand-wash dishes, water plants... but I love my shower do if I turn off tap while soaping, I stay for "hour" while rinsing.
I make my own vinaigrette/mustard sauces so no extra, tomato sauce is transferred in a glass jar. And I only use occasionally cornichons (French gherkins/pickles) which never last more than a few days.
I store everything in glass jars, all recycled as I buy as many things in glass jars as possible.
Save that money!
Thanks Yvette!
Rotisserie Chicken at Sprouts is one of my fav saving tips! For small families, one roasted chicken can be utilized for several meals….chicken with veggies, chicken quesadillas, chicken salad sandwiches, or adding sliced chicken to a salad.
LOVE Rotisserie chicken!
Save that money! Cutting back on vices (diet soda and drive-through lunches) is saving me big bucks. And, healthier too.
YASSS! Way to go Holly!!!
Great tips. Small changes can add up over time to significant savings. I’ve been cleaning 1 pantry shelf a day (I have a large pantry). I found soooo much pasta. I have enough to last months. I’m going to check out using clear containers for that instead of stuffing bags into a box where I can’t easily see what I have. I need to clean my frig too. It’s amazing what you find when you do that. Not just expired condiments but produce so old it’s become a science experiment. So gross 🤢. We had to buy a new refrigerator in 2020, we intentionally chose a smaller size so we couldn’t fill it up with so much stuff that ends up being wasted.
I did the same-buying a small fridge so things don't get lost and go bad.
Love this! I stopped picking up coffee on the way to work ... such a savings! I still have coffee but I make it at home before I leave - still delicious but much less expensive! Win for me and my budget!
I cut my coffee runs down. Instead of twice a day, I go three times a week.
My mom lived with me until she passed away. Now that she's gone, I have found that I have to buy smaller sizes of a lot of things. The large economy size isn't good anymore because I can't use them up before they go bad. I really have to go through my pantry to see what I have that needs to be used.
So sorry for your loss.
I totally do the towel thing. I use water from our rain barrel to water plants 🪴. I turn off water to brush. I don’t leave shower running 4ever to warm lucky ours warms super fast. I got my fridge under control about a yr ago & it stay’s pretty nice (no kids😅)
Great video ❤
I buy the big containers of mixed nuts from BJ’s.. The nuts come in a plastic container with a screw on lid.. I reuse the plastic containers to store rice out of plastic bags, etc instead of buying plastic containers.. We use little of paper towels in our kitchen.. Only for bad messes.. Use a kitchen towel to dry out hands.. I only use 2-3 sheets of toilet paper- use as little as necessary.. Save cotton out of vitamin bottles and reuse..
Save that $$$🤗 I use one of those airtight containers for food scraps we compost! No odors and one trip to the compost container once a week.
YASSS!!!
Save that money! But also be careful of “expiration dates”. Many canned / jarred products are good YEARS beyond the date (mostly used for store inventory purposes) & it would be wasteful to throw it out. If it’s not bulging / smells funny, I use it. I also repackage stuff in Mylar bags, airtight containers, etc. for long-term (2-30 yrs) storage. Use O2 absorbers or silica packets, depending on what it is. If fruit is starting to go bad I either dehydrate it or freeze it to put in smoothies. LOTS of ways to ensure you’re getting the most from your grocery budget & not wasting anything. 😊
Totally!!!! And love these other tips! Thanks Nicole!
I agree about expiration dates. On canned goods, they are only suggestion and can last several months ( at least) longer.
I buy those taller containers all the same size. I put cereal, chips, cookies, rice ,etc. in them. I have a pantry cabinet with large pull out shelves so I can line them up two deep. Keep things looking neat and organized.
I use glass jars for produce like berries and mushrooms for added shelf life
I don't use sugar in coffee or tea. I'm a baker, so I don't buy any baked cookies or cakes. The only snack we eat we pop is our own popcorn. I do keep dark chocolate as a nightly treat.
Love popcorn!
Save the money - my fridge will always be pickle free, lol. I save the parmesan cheese containers for storing dried foods - like rice, oatmeal, etc. When the bag is getting almost empty fill the container and I can see how much I have left. I also live alone - so I dont go through food as much these days. Fresh grapes - buy a bunch when they are in season, then freeze them. SO GOOD! They are cold but not as hard as an ice cube.
PICKLE FREE! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!
I love this video. Such a great reminder even for those of us who do most of these things. ❤️❤️❤️🤗
Thank you!!!
I absolutely agree with you about the reusable towel. Unfortunately my hubby doesn't 😞 I suggested that each member of the household should have their own towel to use and reuse them all week. Personally I have a toweling bath robe and I use that all week. I don't understand his problem 😕
Oh save that money! I like to make a pot of soup using leftovers and take it for my lunch at work. Saves money twice
I have a tip! I keep a one quart ( i think it is 1 quart-it is about the size of a brick) canning jar, filled with water, in my toilet tank. It cuts down on how much water is used in each flush. This tip was given to me by my plumber. I was sceptacle but in the last year that i have been doing this, it has always more than adequate to complete a flush. Big savings.
Best buy dates are NOT expiration dates! I use to throw out stuff if best buy date has past. What a waste of food. Those dates are put on products to get you to buy more. Do your research every one. Its just another way companies increase thei sales. I also have the top shelf of the refrigerator dedicated to thing I have to use up. No more tossing food out. Great job kate!
Oh yeah, I know. Some of mine were expired 2020 and it was time to heave ho! LOL!
Write an inventory of what is in your freezer fridge and cupboard including toiletries household items
I always hang my towels up and use them for a week and do my laundry on Saturdays
Love this Missy!
I give my self $20 a month for spending at the moment because I am learning to spend less and going cold turkey didn't go well last time. My anxiety and spending go hand in hand. Books and crochet are my current things. I am however limiting myself on yarn. I have a couple of projects going and I told myself no more until those current projects are done. BOOK. Oh my sweet books are my weakness. I love escaping into magical worlds. its what has helped me cope with my mental health problems. My little sister has been a great help in me reducing the amount of book I'm buying. I'm currently reading the ACOTAR series i just finished book one!
I love your transparency so much. I'm so glad you have been successful with this channel. You are a gem.
Thank you much Nikki!
Your frugal channel is one that is more realistic. 😊❤
Great job!!!
Some go to the deep side to save money😮
Thank you so so much!
Bucket user here. Also save water from dishes to either flush the toilet or pour in washer. Also, I have a drip and may have to fix it myself.
I am a fan of your videos here in Upstate NY and look forward each week to new ones. I have been on the frugal and minimalism bus for 3 years now. I use binder clips of all sizes (free from office) to roll cereal bags, pantry items back up. I also save my bath towels and wash on weekends. Thank you for tips.
Yup, been using binder clips I got from dollar tree years ago.
Love this Jennifer! and THANK YOUUU!!!
I use spring-type clothes pins for my snack bags.
I use air-tight containers for sugars (white, brown, confectionery), flour, pasta, rice, corn meal, grits, and coffee. I keep a scoop in each one that requires one.
I agree with everything Kate! I have the Better Homes and Garden air tight containers from Walmart and put similar items you mentioned in mine as well. I love those things! ~SAVE THAT MONEY~
Thank you Debbie!
This thing about laundry, Kate. When you take off something but know you can wear it again, I fold these things and keep them all together in the same spot. Any time I'm just hanging out at home and don't need to be wearing something freshly washed and beautifully ironed, I'll put clothes on from that pile as first choice. It's not just about saving energy and washing powder/liquid, it's all about saving on the hated job of ironing.(I bet you know what I'm talking about, LOL!) [SAVE THAT MONEY!!!]
Kiki? How did that happen/how did I miss this? Last I heard they were Spooky and Ghost! I'm with you on the water use - exactly the same with brushing teeth but enjoying the warm water on my shoulders and head when I'm showering. I once read an article which said the UN or WHO (I forget which) have predicted that World War III (which I hope never happens) will be fought over access to water. I think we have to treat it like it's as precious as energy or gas/petrol.
Wishing you and Kaden a brilliant weekend - sorry I couldn't get to watch this during the first hour after it launched. Better later than never, eh? Such a good budget video when was it? Was it last night? I think it was! I really enjoy your lives and teaming up with T&C seems like a smart move to me on your part. 😀
Thank you so much Amanda!!!
Save that money! I feel like I am starting to be my dad - 'we turn off lights when we leave the room'. We are also on well water, so we only run water when absolutely needed (not leave it running as we are washing dishes or brushing teeth, etc.). Love all your tips!!
We are on a well also and often have people ask me why I don't let the water run while doing dishes and etc. because I don't have a water bill. Some people don't realize the more water you use having a well the more the pressure tank kicks on which means electricity is used and more times I have to buy water filters which aren't cheap. We live in a area that has very hard water so must have water filters
One towel all week, yes. Wearing clothes then putting them away if not dirty, yes. Pantry clean out coming as soon as my adult daughter and her family moves out. Turning off lights and TV, yes. Curbing a vice, working on it!!
I agree about a bath/shower towel as after a bath/shower you are clean x
I have similar airtight containers for pasta, legumes, etc., And I love them. It's easy to see what I have and the food is fresher.
That scraper you were using in your fridge is one of the most useful tools in my house!
It's AMAZING!!!! I don't have to use if often, but when I do...OMG! YASSS!
I take a quick showers. I do turn off shower when lathering my hair or doing condition in. Do use the bucket method. Use the cup method for washing/rising teeth.
Nice Gladys! What do you normally use the bucket water for? I'm curious! Always looking for ways to use up what I've got! :)
Train your mind to be calm in every situation.
Love that!
I store unwashed berries in mason jars ...depending on the berries they last from 1 - 3 weeks (use raspberry frist ...blueberries last longest).
I just started making my own oat milk ...so quick, easy & cheap plus I can add a spice pike cinnamon if I like. With the leftover oat pulp I add a bit if honey and yoghurt and have an amazing body scrub/wash.
Make your own pesto by using half quantity olive oil and half water followed by spinach, choice of nuts (cashew or pine or brazil or a combination) with garlic, if desired. If stored in very small glass jars (former yoghart jars) in freezer it means a large jar is not left in fridge half used and then discarded.
I'm not throwing away as much food as I used to... I've cut back on the amount I cook and utilize the leftovers which I planned another meal for
Way to go!
When I get that stuck on cardboard stuff in my fridge...I get a warmish, soapy cloth and lay it on the spot for a bit and the cardboard stuff soaks up the water and then it wipes right out. (not too hot, I dont want to break the cold glass) No scraping required.
Thank you Krista! This had never happened to me before! LOL! I will think of this next time!
Save That Money! I decluttered my fridge not by choice but because my 18.2 cubic foot fridge began to slowly die and I had to consume what I had in there or throw it away. I bought a new fridge and chose a 13.9 cubic foot fridge which saved me money and hopefully save me money on energy costs.
YASSS Karen!
I use the towel idea. Started this, over 30 years ago. When my husband and I blended families. We have 6 kids. Each child, had a different colored towel.
By batch cooking one pot meals one saves the cost of energy. I freeze portions in glass (jam jars) as I don't like using plastic. NEVER fill jar to the top as liquids expand slightly in the freezing process. Plan meals ahead of time and TAKE OUT JAR overnight to naturally defrost.
Save that money!!! Wonderful reminders! Have an amazing weekend!
You too!!!!!!! Thank you!
Soda and chocolate at our house. If we could put those down just WOW what a difference that would make.
YASSS!!!!
Awww your kitty is adorbs! Removing/reducing one vice is terrific advice for sure!
Thank you so much!
I don’t agree with the towel situation. But great video !
Something that helped me is, The Rule of Energy.” Everything requires energy, how can I be more efficient and effective in my energy usage .
I like certain brands of toilet paper. Though it costs more than Scott, I ration it out. I use 3-4 squares for pee and 4-5 for no.2. I know tmi, but every thing needs to be assessed and reassessed.
I reuse plastic baggies as much as is safely possible.
Having a capsule wardrobe for clothes. I have clothes that used to be fine for going out into the world that are now my clothes for inside the house, when that no longer works, they become rags. I have dress sneakers, home sneakers and yard work sneakers.
I keep a clean towel near the dryer and add it to the dryer to dry my clothes faster and for less energy, yes, I could hang dry my laundry but that’s not feasible for me. When the dryer is done, l take out the towel first and fold it to leave near the dryer for the next load. Then I remove the clothes.
When I bought my washer, I got a front loader to cut down on water, electricity and laundry detergent. It also takes less time and energy to dry clothes after using a front loader. I got my washer/dryer on a deep sale, used coupons, store discounts (military 10%), discounted gift cards (also got credit card points for buying the gift cards) and (2 rebates - electric co. for buying a high efficiency washer & Rakuten type) rebates. This took the price below what I would pay for a cheap top loader washer. I also used Consumer Reports information about reliability, effectiveness, etc. Because I bought new I had a one year warranty, also.
I also bought off Craigslist a group of used kitchen appliances for $250 that were one year old. They bought the house and bought new appliances and then decided to redo the complete kitchen. Those appliance were in great condition and lasted 10+ years.
Now this just the way I think but it definitely wasn’t n the beginning of my frugal journey.
Fridge is on my cleaning to-do list for tomorrow. Thanks for keeping it real!
YASSS!!! Hope it goes smoothly Tricia!!!!
I never understood people who throw their towel in the laundry after every use! You just showered!! I swap out ours once a week.
Love this!
I use a towel in the kitchen for drying ishes and another one to dry hands no paper towels
I started getting into sparkling water. It went from occasional to part of my weekly shopping list. I finally decided just to cut it all together.
An easy way to remove dry stuff on fridge shelves is to wet a towel with hot water, squeeze water out and place over the encrusted cardboard, food etc. After a few hours check to see if the stuff has softened. Leave longer if necessary. When soft you can just wipe it off. You can apply this method on any surface
This is my most "favoritest" of your videos! I do just about everything on your list. I do enjoy a good fridge and freezer cleanout. I write out the freezer inventory because it's hard for me to see what's stacked in my freezer-on-the-bottom. And I've been known to snap a photo of my open fridge to jog my memory if I cannot remember how many pickles I have!
Awesome! Thank you so much Hudson Crump! So glad you are here! (and oh my goodness..THE PICKLES! LOL!)
Love your suggestions. Expired food is wasteful and I'm working on improving. Usually, around holidays I clean out the pantry, And then look for food duplicates that are still good, to donate. I have purchased buy one get one free and donated or put some on a side table at work.
Save that money! Love this show ❤
Thank you so much Myra!
In the kitchen, we put the paper towels on top of the refrigerator. We use them only when we handle raw meat. We stopped putting the paper towels by the kitchen sink because, no matter how committed we are to not use them, we will rip off a paper towel.every time. We now only use 6 or 7 paper towel rolls per year in the kitchen. That said, we always use paper towels in the bathroom. It is just more sanitary. I don't put a towel anywhere near the sink. The paper towels are in a holder right by the sink so it is the only choice.
Love this Jane!
Thanks for the great tips Kate. You and Kaden have a great weekend.
Thank you Mary!
My late wealthy uncle bought 1 Sunday paper. He'd remove n use n trade coupons n funnies would wrap xman gifts. He'd read paper then wrap round broomstick and secure with metal coathanger thus He'd have 52 free fire logs.then He'd put in woodburner. He'd use ashes In compost.
Save that money... I use air tight containers for all my dry pet foods, nuts, granola, cereal and even pasta... and added bonus with clear air tight containers is you SEE what you have and great visual before going to get groceries.
YASSSS Love this Nancy!
I agree less is best
I take fruits & veggies that are starting to look bad and freeze them for soups or smoothies. We are currently collecting warm up shower water in a bucket because our septic system needs replacing!
Love this!
Never could understand washing towels after every use!!! You ARE clean when you come out of the shower!!!!! We do like to hang ours on a rack instead of a hook so they fully dry in between uses. We found a hook to dry didnt do the job and the towels could get a little funky!😁
RIght??? :) Hi Denise!
Kate, I am 💯 percent in agreement with you on every point! Last month I turned our thermostat down 3 points during the day (actually just left it on the nighttime temp all day) and went through and closed all our blinds at night (I live in Utah mountain country) and my bill was $30 less! With no real discomfort. Just started wearing a sweatshirt all day. And now I shall go clean out my fridge! 😉
😍❤️🙏
I recently had surgery and I am not in the mood to cook and I need to get into it again. Also my husband and I have a debate over the thermostat: I turn it way down when we sleep and he turns it back up again if he gets up in the middle of the night- it drives me crazy!
Oh noooo!!!! The THERMOSTAT STRUGGLE IS REAL!
I love my coffee too, but when I started to work from home, I stopped using my Nespresso machine 2 to 3 times a day and reverted to a standard coffee maker. (I save the Nespresso for guests).
Sorry Kate! Didn’t mean to make it sound like you don’t do your research. So many of my friends are tossing lots of perfectly good food away. Can’t convince them the words best by an expiration are two different things. Love your frugal way and have learned a lot from you. Only wish utube was available when I was raising my kids. Lol I am old!
Trying to convince my daughter of that also!!
I understand. Thanks Jane!
I have fixed a wide towel bar/rail on the inside of my bathroom door. I keep my bath towel there and place it back immediately after a shower. It's next to the radiator and dries well between uses. I also boil a full kettle of water each morning and fill a vacuum flask with the remainder after making my first coffee of the day, then I take water from the flask for my next 3 or 4 coffees.
Don't do the towel thing if it's also your guest bath. It really does make you feel weird if their bath towel is the ONLY towel to dry your hands on. Always have an actual hand towel for your guests
YES ! hee hee I would NEVER do that for guests:) I have a towels fresh for guests:) That shower towel is for me only:)
I went from $6.50 a day beer habit to 1 glass of wine a day - 1 4ltr jug $18 lasts 18 days
I drink the wine just before bed and it helps me sleep
I also shopped sales, for a good steam cleaner and steam clean my carpets myself.
Kate great video so many hints on your channels to make frugality doable. Have you heard of “bright line eating “ it’s a great book and Susan Pierce Thompson has a RUclips on it. Sugar is something hard to control - maybe have it only on parties or when you have a special occasion. She talks about it and I’ve found after 40 plus years trying to control sugar - it’s comes to not having it in my house. It’s freeing after.
Bright Line Eating? No, but now I will look into it! THANK YOU!!!!!
Save that money! Hi Kate from Spain.
Laundry....LOL My husband and I do one load of laundry a week (in cold water). We only run our furnace for hot water a couple of times a week for a shower and hot water for washing (it stays warm enough for a few days with an insulation jacket). We do not have air conditioning. Our electric bill is under $70 a month all year.
Love it Sharon!
Save that money! It may sound crazy but I keep spreadsheets of everything in my pantry, fridge & freezer plus another one of potential meals. I bold the ones that are soon to expire or I want to use up and built menus around them. I love shopping from my home first and then just supplementing. Yes, those airtight containers are great and I pick them up at Home Goods as I need them and can buy the sizes I want instead of what comes in an assorted box. They are great for pet treats too! When I have something I don't know what to use up, like jams and jellies, I find one of those apps or websites where you can put the ingredients in and it gives you recipes. I remember many years ago making mini muffins and putting a dollop of jam or jelly in the middle. You can freeze them and bring them out for snacks or breakfast. I recently saw on another You Tuber's channel to put those Dollar Tree placemats on the shelf in your fridge so it makes cleaning up a breeze. You can wash them or choose to throw them away for $1.25 if they are such a mess. I love it! I just tried two to start and that's usually my worst shelf. Thanks for a great video!
Love your organization Lynne!!! (And i love spreadsheets!)
Note to self- must clear out the pantry 🎉
