    Follow MprooV on Twitter / mproovapp #agadmator Magnus Carlsen is the sole leader after nine rounds at the FIDE World Chess Candidates’ Tournament. On Monday the Norwegian drew with Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) while co-leader Levon Aronian (Armenia) lost to Boris Gelfand (Israel). Peter Svidler and Alexander Grischuk (both Russia) drew an amazingly complicated game and after 6.5 hours of play Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) scored his first win, against Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan).
    With the second half of the FIDE World Chess Candidates’ Tournament well under way, the interest in the tournament is growing, both online and at the IET in London. Every day both the number of spectators in the playing hall and journalists in the press room is growing, and many local grandmasters can be seen at the venue. Gawain Jones, Daniel King and Luke McShane have been frequent visitors and on Monday GMs John Nunn, Matthew Sadler, Jon Speelman and Simon Williams came along. They all witnessed another great round in which the big game was world number 2 Vladimir Kramnik against world number 1 Magnus Carlsen.

    Do you think the queen against Svidler's "naked" king could go on and grab piece after piece ?
    (the position at 15:21 looks like a clear win since it's hard to protect the h4 pawn)

      Looks like you have to take that back now, huh. Winning position with lots of threats against Fabiano. Fabiano threatening nothing. Fabiano down to minutes with 9 moves to reach time control, while Magnus has 45 minutes on the clock. And MAGNUS was the one to offer the draw. Pathetic.

    • @paulsvensson6948
      @paulsvensson6948 5 лет назад +3

      @@jestice75 It is not a very beautiful way to play a championship, but I believe Carlsen offered a draw because he didn't want to risk anything. He most likely knew that he was winning if it went to rapids or blitz, which could explain why he always seemed to play for a draw in the classic games. If this was planned, then I wouldn't call it pathetic.

    If chess is serious about trying to get bigger viewing figures at big tournaments on sites like twitch, they have to get rid of the draw offer, at least in these huge tournments. That's still a very imbalanced position in an excellent and exciting game. It should never be called so early. There's no other sport where the competitors can just stop things whenever they like. Draws should only happen by repetition, stalemate, insufficient material and 50-move rule.

    • @rraune7515
      @rraune7515 6 лет назад +11

      Since the 3 moves repetition rule exists players will always find a way to use it to draw games.

    07:59 black does not win a piece if bishop d2 is played. If the knight is captured you fork the queen with check and white should be more than good in this position.

  • @Zelda1990s
    @Zelda1990s 6 лет назад +2

    7:57 I am curious if white could potentially hold on to the extra piece with Bd2. Of course the point being you can capture the Knight immediately with the pawn because Bxc3 comes with check forking the king and the queen. It doesn't look like white could hold on forever, but I am just curious how long white could last with that move.

  • @ex0duzz
    @ex0duzz 6 лет назад +1

    At 7:31 you say it would be great if you could grab another oiece for the queen but then you only analyze two lines and conclude that white cannot grab the piece but what about if you capture the piece on d1 with the rook?
    This way if black ever plays d4 to fork your pieces, he would have to move his queen first before he could take a piece, so shouldn't that give you all the tempi you need to actually make it 3 minor pieces for the queen?
    Again, what am I missing? Bring it on engines. Haha

    At 9.00, white to move, why not Bxf8+ capture the rook with check as an in-between move winning the exchange and then after black deals with the check you can continue the game like white does in the game to defend that pawn?
    I think it seems very obvious and as I am low rated (1650 atm) I can't imagine that these pros missed it, but rather that there is a reason not to do it? But I can't see it. Anyone got a reason not to do it?

    7:33- why not R×d1. So the d pawn will be pinned and white can save his knight and bishop?

    • @WobboidMump

      Queen to a5, and after let's say Bd2, black plays d4.

    • @GeschiedenisPO
      @GeschiedenisPO 6 лет назад +3

      You can still play d4. If you try to then move away one of the pieces, f.e. Bc1, you run into Qb6, and you cannot save both the knight on c3 and the bishop on b5. On the other hand, if you try to save the knight on c3 after d4, then Qe7 pins the bishop and you lose the piece again

    @2:08 isn't Ng4 just dropping a knight?? Can't white just play Bxg4 Nxg4 Qxg4 and its gig? Even if black goes exd5 with discovered attack on the queen, that's only getting a pawn or two for the knight, I don't think that's worth it? What really simple trick am I missing here? You say that black is "winning the bishop pair no matter what here in this line"! Yeah, but black is also giving up two knights just to get the white bishop and a pawn or two? Not worth it AFAICT(can tell).

    • @andrewpalovcak4072

      ex0duzz Right idea, but you'd have to go one move further. Ng4 Bxg4 Nxg4 Qxg4 exd5 Qd1 d4 forks the bishop and knight and you get the piece back and the position would probably favor black.

      chess brillancie Well I mean if he did stop at every single position to show every variation, his videos would be extremely long. Some people would like an hour long analysis, but others (including myself) feel he highlights the most important parts of the game without carrying on too much. Can't make everyone happy I guess.

      Oh, C'mon. Feel free to create your own chess channel and analyze all possible lines. As mentioned in the video, this was a well known position before the novelty.
      What does a "not too superficial" chess player do for well known positions that are unfamiliar to him/her? Well, look at an opening book. It's not like anyone is forcing you to watch this (outstanding, in my opinion) chess channel.

    I am not usually commenting, but the position at 7:57 (or 7:58): if you move your dark bishop to d 2 than black cant grab your night on c 3 because than dark bishop captures on c 3 will be check and that would win blacks queen. Correct me if I missed something I am not a great player or anything but please check this out!

    Hi! I love your videos but this is very weird here: at min. 2.06 you suggest a possible 12... Ng4??. It happened in many games, but then 13. Bxg4 Nxg4 and it is unclear. Then of course you get 14... exd5 15. f5 d4 16. Nd5 but this position favors white like 4 to 1, am I right?

  • @KravMagoo
    @KravMagoo 5 лет назад

    I'm probably wrong, but at 7:23, after the black king takes the pawn, it looks to me like Kxd1 is the best move. You said that the black queen could move to a5, check, but if the knight moves back to c3, the pushed pawn at d4 IS NOT A PROBLEM 7:57. All that white has to do is move e3 to d2 and the knight is protected; the pawn can't take the knight on c3 because if it does, the bishop will take the pawn on c3 and win the queen by forking the king, CHECK.

    8:00 How does black win a piece?
    White plays:
    1. Bd2 dxc3
    2. Bxc3 + Forking the queen and king, so black can't take the white bishop.

    At 7:59 can't white play Bd2? What does black play? If dxc3 white just captures the pawn back, forking the king and queen. Everything else also seems to allow white to hang on to the piece with not enough comp for black imo.

    When they agreed to the draw , White could have played RD1, this allows black to take the E file Rook and white takes the queen. The pawn takes the rook and promotes to a queen, but bishop takes the Queen. It's Bishop, Knight and Pawn vs a rook and i would say it's winning for white.

    I'm pretty sure Grischuk considered that pawn takes knight is a line. I mean who wouldn't? As you said, Grischuk had this position while praparing. Pawn captures is one of the first thing that comes to mind after looking at the position. Idk what you're smoking. He's definitely prepared for that move.

    ruclips.net/video/ez_JCnLFGx8/видео.htmlm41s Is there a reason white couldn't just go knight c3? In the scenario explored, after rook takes on c5, then pawn takes on c5, white's knight would be undefended, but also wouldn't be in any immediate danger, but it would also be guarding against Queen b1.

    Agadmator on 7:57 if pawn on d5 is pushed to d4 attacking the pinned knight on c3 and the dark bishop on e3 white simply plays bishop back to d2. Black can’t grab the knight on c3 with the pawn. If he does then white takes with bishop attacking the Queen while delivering check! Black has to take the bishop and give up the Queen. So you can in fact grab the third piece! Note that the white bishop is guarding the e8 square so black can’t check the King with either rooks😊
