    ABOUT THIS VIDEO
    What is Koreatown, Manhattan?
Koreatown is also know as K-Town. It is a neighborhood in Midtown near the Garment District. The bulk of businesses in Koreatown is on Korea Way which is a portion of 32nd St.
What are the things to do in New York’s Koreatown?
I have three recommendations: Korean Barbecue (Korean BBQ), karaoke, and the Koryo Bookstore.
    What is Korean BBQ?
Korean BBQ is when you order a set assortment of meats and sides and these are cooked into a built-in grill on your table. It’s family-style eating, meaning it’s meant to be eaten by a lot of people.
What is Karaoke like in Koreatown Manhattan?
Karaoke in K-Town is where you rent out your own room to sing karaoke. Some places are BYOB so you can bring your own food, snacks, and some drinks.
    What is Koryo Bookstore?
Koryo Bookstore is one of the first Korean shops in New York City. Along with other Korean businesses, it help establish the Koreatown we know today. It’s a great place in New York to get Korean books for language learners, K-pop goodies, and Korean face masks and other beauty products.

Thank you Thea for putting in a lot of hard work into making this video.
From writing the script, putting subtitles, physically getting out to get the footage.
The history of this KoreaTown part is much, much appreciated.
Hopefully people would get to learn Korea's culture by watching this video

Thanks for the appreciation! It's been very cold lately so when I get b-roll I feel like my hands are going to fall off. Lol.

Apparently the first H-Mart was open in NYC KoreaTown, which is still open today.
Thea is def a Karaoke Popstar. Making a video about doing karaoke is def something we should do when it's safe.

Thank you! I was hoping to do Chinatown in time for the Lunar New Year but didn't have enough time. K-Town is smaller and was easier to make.

Aside Flushing, there is also a large Koreatown in New Jersey, Palisades Park
And lots of Korean restaurants can also be found eastwards of Flushing, along Northern Boulevard in Auburndale and Bayside

Thanks! Not all places will be open late, but there will be options. Most places close around 10pm or 12am and a handful can be as late as 3 or 4 am depending on the day.

1:56 Although in English the sign says, "Korea Way," in Korean it literally says, "Korea [Hanguk] Town" (한국 타운, using the South Korean name for "Korea" and the English word "Town" transliterated directedly into Korean letters).

Thanks! That might be a good idea. There's a restaurant that was highly recommended to me, Jajaja Plantas Mexicana. I'm going there at some point to check it out. Recently, Eleven Madison (the fancy Michelin restaurant) went plant-based as well. There's definitely a big shift towards plant-based food.

Likewise, there's a Chinatown in Flushing, Queens as well as the more touristy one in Lower Manhattan. So the East Asians tend to live in the Far East -- of New York City. :-D

Korean food is delicious, but be warned: many (if not all) of the dishes are extremely HOT! My only experience with that type food was in fact in NY, back in the nineties. I've always thought we were in Chinatown, but now that I've seen your video it may well have been Koreatown. The place was very crowded and there were almost no white faces to be seen - always a good sign.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 года назад

Yes! Beware of spicy food! Places blend a bit in NY. You can walk two blocks and you're in a different neighborhood. K-town can still get pretty crowded today depending on how nice it is out and if it's the weekend. But I still like to visit every now and then.
