    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! The "column headings" are just Text labels that I added there, they are not connected to the Gallery in any way. So instert Text labels for all column headings that you want to see, and set the Text-property for each label accordingly with "ID", "Date", "#Items",...
      The fields inside the vertical gallery in that screen are also just Text labels that I added INSIDE of the Gallery's element (just like we did in the other Galleries on the New Order Screen). Then set the Text-property for each field to ThisItem.Title, ThisItem.OrderDate, ThisItem.Status.Value, ... depending on which data you want to see in the Gallery.

    Hello, as an Access developer, I really appreciate Power Apps as it seems to be "Access in the cloud". An application creation system, just like Access.
    Being an Access developer, I am really frustrated by the glossing over how your tables are created. I get it that you had them prepared before hand, problem is, I don't. I am trying to create them according to your notes below, but how do you create the ID fields? Are they an Autonumber equivalent? How do you make that? Did you just import a list from an excel workbook?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +1

      Hi! The ID fields are just a number field in SharePoint that I have filled manually, but you could say that those are the unique identifier numbers for each record. I happened to mimic an auto-incrementing number sequence for both lists, but it's not necessary really since real life item numbers would probably also not be like that I guess. So I just manually filled both SharePoint lists with data, no Excel import. Feel free to create your own items and categories, as long as you use the same field types and names, it doesn't really matter. Hope that helps! - Jochen

    • @alantonn8108
      @alantonn8108 Год назад +2

      @@CegekaBusinessSolutions Thats Great. I can create my own items, but how do I ensure my data integrity across the different tables? In Access an autonumber field is used to create relationships between the different tables. How does that work here? Do I create a field for numbering the records or can I use a built in GUID or is there a way to create an autonumber? I have been trying to figure that part out as duplicating my previous Access applications is why I am learning Power Apps.

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +2

      Hi! To create a relational database within SharePoint, you would probably need a combination of the default ID-field, maybe a "calculated" field, and some Lookup-columns. Hopefully these links can provide more clarity on that:
      support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-list-relationships-by-using-lookup-columns-80a3e0a6-8016-41fb-ad09-8bf16d490632

      Hi! I copied the vertical gallery from the template screen and just resized it a little bit to fit the screen. The value for the Items-property of the vertical gallery is shown in the video when I explain about the toggle I used, since that toggle's value is used as a filter in that Items-formula. Inside the gallery's element are all just text label controls with the Text-property set to ThisItem.ID, ThisItem.OrderDate, ThisItem.Status.Value, ... and so on (depending on which fields you want to see there). Can we do the same using csv file as a source data?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +1

      Hi! Yes you could, but the csv file would be "inside" of the app's internal memory. That will make it harder to maintain if the data itself changes (new records, updated records, ...). The image-file might also be a challenge to implement when using a csv-file but it's not impossible I think. The advantage of using SharePoint for example, is that the "database" is completely outside of the app, so maintaining the data is super easy. Hope this helps! - Jochen

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions

      Hi! The formula seems to be correct, but instead of "Transparent" try "Color.Transparent", hope that fixes the issue. So "If(ThisItem.IsSelected, RGBA(168,0,0,0.25), Color.Transparent)" would be the formula to use.
      They have changed it a while ago, so that you HAVE to use Color. first now. Instead of just using "Red" in a formula, you now have to use "Color.Red". Same goes for all other enumerations, like for example the Displaymode property: instead of just using "Disabled" when using it in a formula, you have to use "DisplayMode.Disabled".

      I have another question though as I'm trying to build a Products and Services request application inspired on your app tutorial.
      1) Is it possible to create the Category gallery with some sort of tab or toggle so that the users can switch between Products or Services, then the Items list would also show the Products Items and Services items respectively?
      2) If not, then I'm continuing to build it with a 2nd screen for Service request orders similar to the products, however, I would like the Existing Requests screen to show all products and Services combined in the list before submitting....
      Is this doable?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +2

      Nice, good that it works now! Depending on which control you are going to use, you will also have to update the filter in your Items-property for the Items-gallery of course. If you use a radio button called radChoice, you can use radChoice.Selected.Value in your filter for example. So if you have decided which control you want to use to have the user select Products and/or Services, just do a Google search on how that control works and how you can use its selected value in a gallery filter. Hope this helps! - Jochen

      Not if you want to keep your data efficiently and without duplication and errors. Normalization is part of creating a database. A typical excel "database" for people would include a city column. If I had a list of 100s of people who all live in Chilliwack, but one of those cities for one of those people was spelt wrong, Chiliwack, I would end up missing that person in a mailing list for Chilliwack. In fact that one person might never get anything because the city is spelt wrong. A people table with just the information for that person with a column indicating which row to look at in my City table allows me to enter Chilliwack once and never make the mistake of spelling it wrong because I would pick it from a list when adding a new person who lives in Chilliwack. Relational databases break information into groupings of related data, this is normalization. There is a lot more to it, but those are the basics.

      Hi! In this series I use SharePoint Online, not an on-premise SharePoint. That's also a possibility though, if you Google "powerapps sharepoint on premise" you will find some tutorials on that as well. Hope this helps! - Jochen

    1410: Something is off here. When I hover over the "User" portion of the formula, it shows a Record, instead of Text, and doesn't show my email address (even though it's in the list).. hmmm?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад

      The User() function returns a record indeed, with a couple of fields IN it. So most of the time you won't want to use the entire record, but just one of those fields. To get the field values, you have to use User().Email or User().FullName in your formules for example. Hope that helps!

    One observation - You can probably replace "= false" in the "if statement" by negating the value.

    08:24 - Nothing happens here. The top item doesn't turn red, and either way, I can't select any of the items in the gallery when I Preview. Any idea what I did wrong?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад

      You are always selecting an item when you click inside of a gallery in preview mode, that's how they have developed it. You just can't 'see' it by default, that's why we need that formula. Make sure you put the If(ThisItem.IsSelected, ...) formula inside the correct property, it should work. (TemplateFill property on the Gallery control) Hope this helps!

    is there a way to do this without the use of SharePoint and using excel i tried but its not working
    when i used Thisitem.CategoriesImage it didn't bring anything

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +2

      Hi! To be honest, I don't know if you can add an "Image"-column in Excel like you can in Sharepoint, so that might already block you from using it in a similar way.
      A possible workaround would be to store the image as a Base64-text in the Excel column, and then try and "decode" that Base64-text back to an image inside of the PowerApps-gallery where you are showing it. Google "PowerApps show base64 image" or something like that and you will probably find some info that will get you there. Hope this helps! - Jochen

      is Collection feature not available on the free version of power apps?
      the formula clearcollectiions or colcategories seems to not work for me
      is there any work around for this?

    • @CegekaBusinessSolutions
      @CegekaBusinessSolutions  Год назад +1

      Collections and their formulas are always available, so I would double check if you have put the correct formula in the correct property. ClearCollect(colCategories, Categories) should work if 'Categories' is in fact the name of your external data source. Hope this helps! - Jochen

      Hi! I'm not sure I understand the problem, but can you try ThisItem.Status.Value in the Text-property of the label you are displaying? (instead of just ThisItem.Status) Hope this helps! - Jochen
