Antonio Moya So now what genious? YOu spouted off and now you saw that this was the best crop of 3 year olds since the 90's. 3 year olds won the JCGC, finished 1-6 in the Classic, and a 3 year old won the Pacific Classic, and Awesome Again.
Wow, just read about this LAST race in the Paddock Chronicles and who was in and won the last race before they shut down the track.......California Chrome . AND Boy, this race was awesome. He's 2yrs old here. NOW, Chrome has made close to $15million and will retire after his last race in about 3 or 4 weeks. He'll be 6yrs old when he retires. GO CHROME.
Yeah but this is amusing to me because it's a reference to Game of Thrones, which means Game of Thrones has been around and popular enough for racehorses to be named after it, and I love Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire
if the next two big races are slow and it comes down to a kick--this horse wins the triple crown--if it is a fast paced Belmont and a rested horse with a big kick flies down the stretch he may lose, but here it is, this horse wins the belmont by a nose--bet on on it--the drought is over---
This horse, like BIG BROWN, before, is winning to mediocre horses. The key for a champion is always breaking or matching record times during the key races. Check a little of history if your are in doubt. Nothing especial from California Chrome yet. Social Inclusion did a better job on that regard; but people likes to dream.
Answer me this: If a horse is 5 lengths ahead, why would you push him? I would rather own a racehorse that won consistently doing only what it had to do than try to break records just for the sake of breaking records and risk injury. It would be a stupid thing to do in my opinion.
Everyone has a point. I understand we want new heroes; but I think that to consider a new triple crown (everyone is looking at CC), it has to be an special horse as Secretariat, Afirmed... Untapable also wins with a lot distance and last and previous, did better time than Rachel Alexander. She can be a hero; but CC is just a good horse. Everything would be different if Instead of points to get to the Derby; actual performance becomes the only measurement tool. As they do in Car Racing; but ...
And the last stakes winner in Hollywood Park history would go on to win the Kentucky Derby.
Not a bad finale.
Gorgeous horse and helluva run!!
Love this race call. I feel that he is become underrated. Although of course now he is probably going to be retired. One a Chromie, always a Chromie.
When your good you don't need to be pushed and I have never seen a horse win so confidentially as a two year old, the horse is special.
He runs effortlessly, out for a casual stroll in the park. Terrific!
Yes, unfortunately, a generation of average prospects open up to grey perceptions.

That was the last dirt race at Hollywood park
Today, 4/5/2014, California Chrome won the Santa Anita Derby. The colt could go into the Kentucky Derby as the favorite.

Btw, he nearly broke the record in the Santa Anita Derby waltzing home from 50+ yards out.
Antonio, the horse has not been asked to break any records, he has been under a very light whip.
