    What a time to be alive, with lens manufacturers releasing such exotic products!

    The lens looks really great. I bought Laowa 100/2.8 recently and use it on my G9. At first I was a bit afraid about the 2x macro and doubled focal length due to the crop factor but you can easily use manual nonstabilized lens for 2:1 handheld macro AND get sharp photos.

    Two point I would have mentioned: Lens caps for use with lens hoods are often available if you save plastic lids from such grocery products as peanut butter and condiments. We may be more than a little prone to saving things than most but I was able to find a perfect fit for both my Laowa 85mm macro and 105mm STF lenses that slip into the hood (inside not out and reversed so you can pull the out from inside. If you can't find a perfect fit, I suppose you might modify one with added tape or sanding but you can also take the lens to the grocery and find a product brand with a right-sized lid. It is great if someone in the family will eat the product making the hood free. Second: I would like to have seen the lens equipped with a rotating tripod collar. The thing is heavy and another couple ounces would be useful. This might be a place to try one of those newly available collars that clamps around the body mount (Atoll etc.) but I would need to check if those would clear the knobs.

    I don't need a 100mm macro, but if they did something at the same price-point and IQ level like a 16mm f/4 with the same tilt/shift capacities, that'd be really exciting to me.

      This is the second tilt-shift they've done, so it might be a trend.

    So, what is the deal with those almost completely washed out half circles at the center of the left and right edge, e.g. at 11:50 and 13:13?

      Ok, looking at other reviews, it's two lights. I feel the placement further in was less irritating.
      With some quality glassbeing reviewed, where it is obviously not the lens, one subconciously ignores it, whereas with this cheap glass and after seeing the poor mechanics, one immediately is lead to think it was the lens. 😆

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +2

      Ahh, just the lights reflected in the glass.

    Only $400??? That's a steal! I thought the Samyang tilt/shift was already a good price but this is really cheap.
    So how does it compare to the Samyang?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      This a stronger lens optically than the Samyang, though obviously a completely different focal length.

    An interesting lens to experiment with but not very ergonomic. And the lack of contrast gives it a bit of a flat optics. There are the laowa lenses but far more expensive in the MF range. The new sony a7r5 stabilization makes a lot of hand held macro video possible and I would have liked to try out a tilt shift macro but the form factor does not work for me. The sony 90 also performs better with the new sony af. For the sony system there are a lot of options but for some of the other camera systems this lens could be a very viable options.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      Even on Sony there are next to no lenses I can think of that offers all of these options in one lens.

      @@DustinAbbottTWI I meant the overall optical macro range and ease of usage. Certainly the tilt & shift makes it a unique lens.

    From what I‘ve seen and read about this lens on other sites the focus throw seems to closer to 100 degrees rather than 170 degrees maybe?
    Even 170 is not enough but 100-ish would be a dealbreaker for me. Can you double check maybe?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +2

      It does seem like somewhere close to 100 degrees.

    This would be a perfect lens for small product/macro shoot using focus stacking. How good the tilt movement for adding more dof with this lens?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      A lot of that comes down to technique, but you can definitely play with DOF more when you have the tilt option.

      The Voigtlander has more special color, but this lens is actually very useful. It does so many things, and does them fairly well.

      It's very tough with a tilt/shift lens, as the very act of moving things around mean that the lens is using more of the image circle. Very hard to scale that up to GF. I'm not aware of any T/S lenses for GF, actually.
