Welcome to India. Please be careful and take precautions. Don't roam at wilder and isolated areas after it is dark. Don't eat random streetfoods. Don't visit the usual crowded and chaotic areas of Old Delhi. Have a good time.
Remember to remove shoes especially when there are sacred deities like Naga idols. More than culture and customs, its got more to do with few sacredness and also belief that if you don't maintain certain decorum, you will be faced with hardships. So, for your own welfare and good life, always remove your footwear at sacred places.
@Thejetlaggers498 also if you observe that place where you walked past 'snake' idols, you didn't see people there because no one dares to go there just like that, there is a legend, superstitions, or call it whatever that not following any rituals will invite curse from those deities. All I am saying is avoid being cursed by such gods. There is a huge huge legendary stories across coastal karnataka and kerala about such deity.
