I find that listening and thinking about these types of problems has the same type of impact on my brain and emotions as a beautiful piece of music. I'm hopeful that when our brightest human minds in quantum computing start programming these types of problems into the next generation of computers, out will emerge the next level of beautiful patterns understandable by more and morepeople. And forward we continue marching. Great presentation. Thank you.

Wonderful, a great lecture and lecturer, a good man and a very good audience. I always enjoy complex problems, I absolutely understand none of, but a try always matches the absolutely none understanding of each.
    My amateur attempt
The basics of the prime number concept, is to literally define the very end, limit, the very enclosure of and by a segment, line, sequence, set and so on or in terms of a system, even a complex one compiled of sub systems, without determining an end of ends, meaning a continuation which can have a practical measure which equals not in blah, ( i.e unusable).
It signifies the very understood yet in this context often completely neglected and overlooked concept of none duplicality, not duplicity, but regarding the meaning of and by unique, with and within a set of consecutive sequence.
The confusion arises from the fact that after (integer {times} integer) the duplicate meaning is neglected by and of having been turned into three, four, five and so on times integer, which means a literal almost identical side by side sequence of numbers exist to that sequence which has prime numbers, yet this one by and of being fundamentally a duplicate based sequenced one, having no possibility for and by any concept such concept as a prime number.
[ In pure mathematics terms, upon the appearance of and by a prime integer, it's consequential times function demotes it to a not prime, but a segment which has any other next prime integer.]
The confusion is more prevalent, once it is visually seen and understood, that such structure raises only of one number of and by the sequence which does have a prime number possibility, be it such number only a zero, and the way method is this....
Assume a horizontal sequential line of and by numbers from zero to infinity zero. Now assume an upward vertical axis line, as a times duplicate of and by any or each of the numbers on the horizontal line. Almost all of such vertical axis line sequences already have all of the numbers with and within the horizontal line, yet none is a prime number. (The difficulty of finding prime numbers has nothing to do with randomness, it is only a matter of the impracticality of fitting any very large number consecutive sequence into equally matching segments of and by duplicate set's, which leaves always one segment being not a duplicate, giving the end of and by a set without terminating the overall sequence, consequentially the prime number.)
Assume a downward vertical axis line sequence of and by any or each of the horizontal line integer sequence, but in this case, still sticking to the duplicate meaning and concept, as a division instead of and by such horizontal line integer sequence. With and within this instance, not just an all possible horizontal line integer sequence is available, but the vertical upward sequences and a truly unprecedented combinations of and by sequences that do not and do corrispond to whole integers at all, exist simultaneously.
A very easy way and method always available in order to literally be it as an understanding not just understand it, is to find ones self in a group of people. At such an instance according to practicality make use of any small stones, which in almost all circumstances either that or a similarity in matching does easily exist on planet earth. Give according to practicality any duplicate matching number of stones or similarity in matching to each one in the group, than ask ..... Does everyone have ...x amount of stones.... Assume in groping step by step the people as one in regards to the consequential sum stone's possessed by and of each, or the stones in regards to the consequential sum people possessing.
Here is the signature, and it seems to be missed almost always by and of all that is regarding......
At a horizontal sequential line of integers from and by zero to infinity zero, with a vertical upward axis as a time's sequential line of and by each integer with and within the horizontal sequential line....... all the numbers appear way before each and all which do on the horizontal sequential line, in fact the appearance is so quick, that upon picking any number from and of the horizontal sequential line, the vertical upward axis as time's sequential line of and by each integers on the horizontal line, already has, not just the number, but a whole segment which the number belongs with and within and this only visualized at not very large numbers, once extremely large numbers are visualized, then light with and within it's speed, upon reaching it, it is already there, in fact it is past there, in fact it cannot reach it.
Way and method more complex, meaning it requires an impossible act, one which almost everyone believes in being involved with and within, being none other than thinking, occurs on the vertical downward axis, where the sequential line of and by each integer on the horizontal line is from and of division instead of a consecutive or times function. At such an instance one finds it hard to figure out which is which in regards to the zero or Infinity zero, from and by each integer, unless one believes one is constantly thinking, and I cannot argue with constant thinking, in fact I don't want to, in fact I find it rude and one of the fundamental mental structures, which in terms of humanity destruction will play it's crucial part, manifestable physically, and spiritually attested after, as a current unknown in a present, yet not to the after.

Not a fan. There is a nice story that inspired this team to look at this, but guess it's really important to keep hold of as much credit as you can. Maybe it's because you don't deserve that much?
If Tao tells this story he will be sure to credit the amateur mathematician who came up with the first original result about prime numbers in years. Sure he had some professional help to make his result rigorous but it was the amateur's idea. The result was roughly that you will always be able to find higher primes that differ by less than 40,000,000 I think. This was a totally new type of result and if we could lower this bound maybe all the way down to 2 it would be really cool.
It is this amateur result that they have managed to lower to now 246.
This story also make their result much easier to understand than the explanation in this video.

Yitang Zhang had a PhD in mathematics, so he was hardly an amateur.
It is true that he had struggled breaking into academia for many years prior to him proving the first prime gap result in the direction of the twin prime conjecture.
So it is the story of someone struggling to find a stable research position after finishing their PhD, who manages to make a surprising breakthrough in the study of prime gaps. It is not the story of an amateur making a surprising breakthrough!
To be precise, he proved that for some k

@@pietfoku1921 My problem is that I think the 70 mil. result was the original and significant one and then he does not mention it. The existence of a bound is much more interesting than it's size.
I had no idea that Zhang was a ph.d. nor that it was his breakthrough. He could have told me. It's a good story that even make the result much easier to understand than the jiberish he chose to present.
