    Well done! Ben Macdui was also my first Munro back in 1980. Been back a few times since over the years. Should be back in the Cairngorms in May - it draws you back. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello Cloe Rose, as you say, it's not just the walking, but the mental aspect of the trip that is more important. To be among the trees the fresh air, the wide-open spaces or confined by the dense under growth. Yes, there is more to tramping, that's just the means of getting there. In my case it is coming across a circle of stones that once held a fire in place, who's ashes long since gone cold, the laughter that was had around it, since faded and stilled, the long old rotten log that was once a seat for those warming themselves around the dancing flames. All this in a remote place in the vast forest. I can let my imagination run wild. I may never return to these places, but I have the memory of them, and this is what those who wish to remain house bound, but are capable of doing, are missing out on. Once the outdoor bug bites, it is impossible to resist the call of the mountains. May I ever answer to that 'Siren call'. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀

      You capture it in words so well. I love the idea of being so connected to the history and stories of the landscape, and being able to reach back through time 'just' through walking. It really is a siren call. And the more you answer, the louder it gets each time calling you back. I can't even think what I used to do with my spare time now, if not being outdoors!

    Thanks for sharing! Your observations are beautifully poetic. Wonderful to get a glimpse into your experiences outdoors - so well informed but the knowledge isn’t at all separate from an intimate communion with nature and all of its poetry, really lovely to see

    Always love the rolling fog and the dramatic landscapes you get in this weather. Makes you appreciate the views even more, when you do get to see them... eventually! 😜 Glad you both made it to the summit, especially without dropping any trail mix one the way! 🤭 I look forward to your return when the skies are blue, the sun gently radiating it's warmth and the Cairngorms coming alive 😊 Thanks Chloe

      Yes, you've put it perfectly! I definitely got more excited at the views when the clouds parted than if they had been there all the time. It also kept me 'in the moment' a lot more, as I wanted to make the most of it before the views disappeared again! Haha, no trail mix on the ground this time, so proud of us! 😂 I look forward to sharing my return on a fairer day... I am sure it will be a totally different landscape! Thank you for taking the time to watch :)

    Ahh another adventure with Chloe, I'm in heaven! I've got my coffee, my breakfast and it's the perfect calm Saturday morning to watch! Hahaha I hate shopping too except for shopping art supplies. I'd be like you and buy everything on my list if I could, not having any interest in anything else😂 Despite it being so foggy once again (I hope you get some better luck with the weather soon haha) it was magical to watch the ''views'' if I can call them that. I'm absolutely in love with the colors on the ground! Ohh and then comes the blue sky, yay! I haven't been to the mountains often, but the beautiful way you describe them and the feeling of freedom they give you is something I experience when I go out in the woods. Alone, in piece, just the sound of nature and nothing else. It's healing and freeing in so many ways! Ahaha ohh the disappointment when reaching the top, I'm so sorry about that. But I admire how you easily you accept it and rather focused on the enjoyment of the whole hike. And the smile on your face when you ate that clif bar, pure gold! And that little snow bunting, SO cute!! Ohhh the views at the end, so so stunning. Ahh I'm all excited and energiesed after watching your beautiful adventure my dear! It was amazing. Your ability to tell stories both through words and videography is just amazing. Sending much love!!

      I am honoured to be a part of your cosy Saturday morning, Frederike! We all have our weaknesses in shopping don't we 😂 Yes, I get the same feeling when in the woods as I do the mountains - you are definitely not missing out on anything by not being in the mountains often. Whenever you show your woods in your videos, they always seem to have such a quiet and magical feel to them. If you go out for more than just the views, you can never be dissapointed! As you said, it's the freeing feeling, that is what I seek and what I get out of it :) Thank you so much Frederike!

    Hi Chloe. The snow buntings were there when I did it too! So glad you saw them & keep your eyes peeled for Ptarmigan. Shame the outstanding summit views eluded you this time, but they'll be there again if/when you make a return trip. Another munro in the Cairngorms I'd highly recommend is Bynack Mor. It's a long walk in from Glenmore visitor centre but fabulous as you pass An Lochan Uaine 'The Green Loch' in the pass of Ryvoan then head out into the wilderness & a high plateau before the climb to the summit. About 400 yards south of the top are the 'Barns of Bynack' - large granite tors & well worth a visit. Save it for a nice day though ! I agree with you, hiking is primarily a mentally relaxing experience for me, the physical benefits are a happy by-product. Take care till next time xx

    • @ChloeRoseHarrison
      @ChloeRoseHarrison  2 года назад

      Ah I’m so glad, they are so lovely aren’t they! Even though they are Arctic specialists it’s still hard to imagine such a small cute bird roughing it out up there. I’ve been watching out for ptarmigans, Josh actually saw one last week (already in their white winter plumage, so they stood out rather a lot against the orange ground!). We had our first sprinkling of snow up high last week so hopefully they won’t be out of camouflage for too long. On the list goes Bynack Mor! Yes, the physical is definitely a by product, a great way to word it. Have a lovely week Michael :) x

    Well done Zoe you both did it!
    So enjoyed this one and I remember as a young lad being taken to Glencoe and standing below those mountains oh I mean MOUNTAINS!
    There was a great feeling of awe and I remember that feeling so well and whenever I am around these "MOUNTAINS" I still get that overwhelming feeling.
    Those birds were amazing I was unaware of these gorgous little things.
    Thank you again for sharing your climb with us and I also relise you are no novice by the other footage you showed. Love it keep it up and my thoughts and prayers to you Josh and your mum. God bless.

      Thank you Daniel! Your memory there made me smile. I remember feeling the EXACT same thing when I saw my first true mountains in Canada. It was uncanny reading your story - I remember just texting Josh ‘MOUNTAINS’ in capitals, and that was it! I suspect we must have felt something very similar. A really spectacular feeling. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch, all the very best to you :)

    Great vid - shame the views weren’t out on show for you again though...
    That particular Munro has a bit of a reputation so it does, all to do with ‘the Big Grey Man’…
    It’s a very interesting read actually, there have been several accounts documented over the years about it!
    Not sure I’d want to camp up on that particular mountain, certainly not solo anyway ⛺️👀

    • @ChloeRoseHarrison
      @ChloeRoseHarrison  2 года назад +1

      It was a shame, but I suppose it leaves some mystery for another day! Normally I don’t feel so inspired to repeat a walk but if I didn’t see most of it first time round, it adds some appeal! I did actually read up about the grey man… it definitely added more of an atmosphere up there amongst the fog, I kept expecting to see something! I know I definitely would not have the nerve to camp solo up there!😂 thank you for taking the time to watch!

      Hey Alex, yes, I work in conservation! I personally love it - it's definitely not a money-making career move but in terms of doing work of real value and impact, it is right up there, so if that's what you are after I can't recommend it enough! Feel free to drop me a message if you ever want to chat more about what it's like/how to get into it :)

  • @cadderley100

    You didn't run into any "Large Grey Man" then, I take it? Personally, I would be very cautious about summitting any mountain with sheer sides and an abundance of sight obscuring fog.
