This happened to me too. I grew up in Kenya and I never liked the traditional songs or even the tribal songs. Now, I listen to that stuff. I notice that we are so musically sophisticated even the simple tribal songs. I remember my grandpas funeral, everyone sang when we carried his coffin and my first thought was that this is home. I am back in the West and I think I will inevitably carry myself home.

God help me, he's always moved me. I just finished my masters thesis to him playing in the background. The man,the music is very personal to me. I whis my mother was alive to see this day finally happen, but she's not. Ive been in the arts my whole life. I never thought this day would ever come, as much schooling I have done, I had always one road block, dyslexia it's not like people believe it is, it can be pretty different from what people are told, seeing latter's backwards? Not all of us have that. For example myself it's math the fear of numbers and algebra has been like living hell for me. What takes people a simple year, I had to take it alone for 5 years and I had to get above a 3.0 GPA in it. I can't even begin to explain why I understood it during tutoring but as soon as I walked into the class I believed I was capable of doing it and everytime that paper was put on my desk, I'd shut down like a light switch turning off the light's. Finally I did it it only took me dropping out of life and nonstop I'd never be happy until I nailed it or even passed it. When I did not only was I shocked, but my mother had even more to do with it and this man. See after graduation for high school she came home from work one day asked me to come to the livingroom because she needed to talk to me about now a mind blowing big EXCUSE ME? I quit my job, I didn't my job working rasing you, gave me the choice get a roommate or move back to your place in New York
I'm selling everything in the house expect for your thing's, I quit my job in physic and I leave for Africa in two week's . I put my dreams on hold, I joined the peace corps.
I was in shock, not even was I aloud to ask or say a word. I'll write you, and you can write back there no phone's in the jungles. I thought she's gone nuts, not at all. She sent for me and she also made it clear don't even bother bringing make up or anything like that, I'll throw it out.
I was always in the arts, I was never spoiled, my mother kept my feet on the ground and instead tought me responsibility, about different cultures, religion's beliefs sexualities and much more.
We always had problems with each other but she didn't go nuts. It was simply BRILLIANTLY the best thing she ever did even sending for me, telling me no pants shorts long compatible skirts and long sleeves light, warm clothes for the night. You'll be living for a month, only a month, no windows I can't wait until you get here it's amazing, I've learned so much and I have even grown, love mom
I was shocked, scared because I honestly didn't know what to expect.a mud but? No windows? I arrived and she wasn't there to get me, a very nice guy was the flight was long enough but took very long to get to her, but it was simply amazing, and ofcourse he said want me to stop, I couldn't believe what I was seeing Lyons elephant's in there own habit, wow. When I arrived I was shocked. The tribe had been waiting for me and before I could kiss her, she came over to a daughter who was in shock, they were celebrating my arrival, dancing and singing like this I thought I was dreaming,I didn't speak there trips language and it was simply there own.
After a day or two, I forgot about the whole world and even were I came from didn't care about make up my hair, that was always up anyway. I learned to make baskets and go with the women how to carry things on my head and the trick to it,how to make a mud hut why the jungle was so beautiful but far enough away from this tiny tribe and why the men did it.
I allowed them to do what ever they wanted to, even teach me. Played with the child and I learned she was always right, you can't miss what you don't have or even know about.
But what I did bring as well as a lot of batteries was my Walkman and a ton of music, in my heart I always believed music brings people who would never even think about speaking to each other let alone for a few hours at any show I was at,or play I was in it did. So I thought they must have music, oh yes they sang played instruments I'd never heard or seen. They pointed at my head phone's I let them all take a turn and I was right music they never heard made them all smile and it was simply amazing it brought us all closer together and from what they all heard, idk how they did this but they played it, there way, with what they had, it was amazing, my mother and I became very close. I can never forget that, I didn't even realize it was really changing me. I wasn't a child that got in trouble or was spoiled,I was the one being bullied for no reason (jelouse people who never really knew me, just knew I worked in the business ,but didn't know which side and the boys liked me I had no time).
I like my mother became a HUMANITARIAN, but I a mission that she said are you crazy? You could get killed its dangerous people get killed by the second,I was going I had to see with my own eyes
What we all were seeing on the news having concerts for, and more.
She wasn't to thrilled with me but we did it and boy oh boy did I see it and I couldn't make a single sound or we could be killed. It changed me for ever.
We got back safely it was my last week there,it was really in its way hard to go,she had 3 more years.
When she came back, we got closer and she Continued to go to different places and help other's, Romania the orphans that became her life.
She never allowed me not to try things If I didn't I couldn't say anything. So suddenly I was given this opportunity to get my masters someone who remains anonymous paid off every single thing, I was notified last week about it and had to pick any school even the one of my dreams to get my degree, but I didn't pick it, I none stop hard always worked on this fantuim athisis well I finished it pressed send. The whole time I listened to this amazing man who other's didn't know anything about until this movie came out, while wishing my mother who gave her life to help other's sadly be taken getting ready to go back in my arms during hurricane sandy. I hope were ever we go after this she can see me and if she can't I hope she's with me when I receive this degree idk why I also felt I needed it the performing arts and learning one on one all over, is something I can't even get enough of. So were ever you are mom,I send you this tear and battle cry. I really miss you
You're broke hearted daughter miss you, but I did it I did

But I did know think about it yes a star is born was her best, but no way in hell can they not give best ORGINAL score to this amazing man,who has been in music, working extremely different Genre's and more. But um I'm pretty sure if he was asked, while in school did you ever think about, or ever dreamed about making an original, our od the box,out of this world, mezmering music that totally sucks you in that everything around you goes away? Boy I would love that answer. This movie from what I've been told, took a very long time to make, seeing I've been to Africa lived in the jungle,I also learned there believe's, I have a very strong sense, this was movie, but this movies soundtrac, oh it was really meant to take long, because the way I feel and see it, I'm not sure about the sales of it,but I'm a million percent convicted this is exactly the battle cry many of us are feeling, Baba I believe his friend sent him unknowingly past a contact. This was needed everytime I press play I go somewhere else,2019 I wasn't even born yet but the hate ,if I even say the word "wall"I cherenng, I feel like something pressed rewind and its 1969 again and its breaking my heart, Sprite but this? I couldn't wait until Woodstock,oh no, no, I can't blast LOUD enough for the whole world to hear it,I'm sure if they did? They all would stop and also feel what is Completely brilliant. The movie and original soundtrack we all need to hear it,I know what he's saying, but music like this that goes through you slams you in the heart, soul it doesn't matter what he saying because I honestly don't even think of that, again I just wanted to turn it up so loud it wakes the whole world up.if they acdamy sunbbed this, I told everyone I was with, I'd get up and leave! I couldn't believe all of them said we'll join you. I can't wait to see what else you have on here. I'm getting Goosebumps all over me Fernando amazing brilliant really know Word I can think of it's so refreshing it's not the same stuff over and over the different B is actually very educational. I can't get enough of this, because you just lose yourself. This was truly remarkably important, brilliant and took a long time for a few reasons. I would love the answer from all of them, did they ever dream of doing something so big and beautiful and powerful? I have to go call one of my music friends, I'm dying to know how many people ran and bought this? He also turned this country onto a sound they never in there wildest dreams ever heard or thought would just nail you everytime you press play. I can't say enough about this, again congratulations for your award but more so, I believe those who have been listening to it,have also been listening to his other work and you aced this. All of them from the person who was given this opportunity and writing anything original is hard enough, but this? Wow,also to ba ba for sharing his battle cry, voice, passion and he's a big HUMANITARIAN for the record ,all about peace kindness. To everyone in the whole orchestra, this is brilliant! Please, please, Bring this to the Broadway stage please. Take the chance I bet it would be a box office hit for everyone as well as a great play idc if its a marvel movie, there's a big lesson here and I need to see the movie now. My friends just said it would be a Broadway hit and again ORGINAL come grab a Tony award also there saying. Make sure we all know where the additions are. I agree! I know Di Nero would agree to.
myself he thinks the same way I do. He has to literally go study what is going to make how can you create something if you've never even experienced it, God to know the people and like myself he said it was the most amazing place or thing hes ever done in his life we can't wait to go back. People don't really understand whether you're the lead in a movie you are supporting in the movie at all, behind camera, a studio a music is really not easy coming up with this really important score original this movie is in the making for the longest time. All my friends love marvial, I'm not quite that person, however they EPICLY FAILED,By not telling me it takes place in Africa, that would have sealed the deal, I was so happy and upset at the same time. I said omg that's Ba ba? Everyone said

This planet is beautiful, it could literally be a heaven on earth. With all these beautiful comments, I do believe we still have a chance. Individualism needs to be extinct, we already have minds with different aspects and what not. It's when we come together as human beings and realize, time is never gonna be on our side and start making difference now rather than to wait for someone else to do that for us. God bless the world and all its occupants..
    Love, and many blessings, JAT..

I live in the states and it's sad to witness all the non cool things associated with being black. But every time I hear this, being from the same tribe and same country as the singer Baaba Maal, I feel some goosebumps and indeed feel stronger with more dignity. This keeps me going harder knowing that I am no minority, that I have values, that I have roots and belong somewhere. I hate being labeled as a minority, I never knew what the term was until I turned 17 and moved to the US. I never even entertain it. I believe the term "minority" kills the soul and psychologically limits your abilities. Anyways, Africa is great in all aspects, greater than you can imagine, a diverse place indeed. My homeland of Senegal alone is home to 39 different dialects with a population half of Texas and a quarter of Texas size. No wonder how many dialects DRC and other bigger nations have, the only reason Africa is behind economically, it's because we have given up 97% of our God-given gifts and civilizations. We only display 2.5% of our gifts.
