I would just be very conscious of how soft the clay is and the placement of the original cane as you put it together. That is always the key to cane making. There is soooooo much more I will be sharing with you and I hope you will continue to enjoy and find a wealth of information from what I show you. When it comes to the polymer clay on how much?....I usually start with about 1- 1 1/2" in diameter logs...Or square logs. Too much more gets unwieldy in my mind. I do hope this helps. Ohh....and about 1" tall. You want any stumps to be shorter to cut through, it makes it easier for you to keep the cut more precise. I do hope I am helping here. In this case with white, I use Kato clay to create most of my canework and that can make a difference in reduction and, in my mind, because it is not a super soft clay, tends to not pick up as much dirt. I will condition the white clay and if I get dirt in it or accidentally get a small amount of another color even in the white, I mix it up until it is no longer relevant. That may also be where I mix more white clay into what I already have conditioned. The more of a dominant color you have the more unlikely it will become another color. I do hope this helps.
