Honestly I think people should be able to vote for the candidate of the Republican primary and the candidate of the Democratic primary as it is every Americans right to be able to vote for their preferred candidate in either primary. All we do by having people vote to decide the candidate of one party is remove a bunch of people's ability to vote that could very well change who the candidate will be for either side, which is limiting a person's freedom of speech.

I'm in PA, other side of the State from where this happened, but myself and a large percentage of my neighbors consider ourselves to be Libertarians or Independents, but are registered otherwise in order to actually be able to participate in Primaries. It happens, more than most people expect, in Closed Primary states. This is also a big part of why PA is a "purple" state. There's a high percentage of voters who have zero allegiance to either party.

It's a common ploy in PA, since primary elections are closed. You can only vote for the slate of the party you're registered as, so a lot of people switch registrations to mess with the opponent's slates. Full elections are open, so it doesn't matter your registration. PA is notorious for the "split-ticket" voting.
It is pretty dumb as everyone already knew way back in 2016 the 2020 presidential election will be Trump vs Biden round 2. Biden is the president and the party with the president doesn't run a real primary to decide the candidate to be the next president and Trump has a stronghold on the Republican party.

It's a common ploy in PA, since primary elections are closed. You can only vote for the slate of the party you're registered as, so a lot of people switch registrations to mess with the opponent's slates. Full elections are open, so it doesn't matter your registration. PA is notorious for the "split-ticket" voting.
It is pretty dumb as everyone already knew way back in 2016 the 2020 presidential election will be Trump vs Biden round 2. Biden is the president and the party with the president doesn't run a real primary to decide the candidate to be the next president and Trump has a stronghold on the Republican party.

He could be registering as a republican to vote for the non trump republican in the primary. In some states you have to register for a party in order to vote. It could one of those situations where he is voting for the republican that is more moderate so that Trump doesn’t get the candidacy

His parents were both social workers/counselors - His Mother was a registered Democrat, His Father a Libertarian. He registered (R) like many nut-jobs do so he could vote against Trump in the primaries. We know this because a neighbor who works with the (R) party has the rosters .... No political signs were in their yard.
