    I find it interesting that you mixed the malts together. I recently bought a 2 liter cask and combined 12 year old Aberlour (1300 ml) and Aberlour a'Bunadh batch #49 (700 ml). I am going to let it sit undisturbed for a month and then compare it to the same mix I bottled at the same time and set aside. I am hoping for a whole new whisky experience with my close friends!

    Thanks for the review, Ralfy! A mix I can strongly recommend is 2 parts Laphroaig 18 with 1 part Laphroaig Cask Strength (or vice-versa for that matter, both versions are great!). I love the complexity and maturity of LP18, but imho it lacks some of the raw, yet refined intensity the 10 cs brings to the table. Great stuff altogether! :-)

    I love 💘 this video 📹, as you know, I have mixed 2 bottles of glengoyne 18year and 21year, and after 3 weeks of letting it sit, I just simply am on to a new trip of great whiskey, I will be going to El paso Texas (125) miles to pick up 3 bottles from my favorite liquor store ,I will buy a bottle of arran 10,12 and 18year old that they have saved for me, I can't wait to mix and match them to see what I can find in the different mixing of these whiskeys, I love 💘 all your videos and have watched many of them 10 or 12 times over, you said I'm a pea in the pod, but you are a legend, a cut above the rest ❤ keep the videos coming for all to learn, and ralfy thank you for always answering your watchers questions, cheers brother, and God bless you for all you do !!!! Hi ralfy
      Would you consider doing a re-review of the game of thrones, house lannister 9 year old?? Because I think it is as good as the laguvulan 16 year old, you gave it a pretty low score, if not don't worry about it, your still the man when it comes to whiskey, I buy bottles that are 90 points or more, sometimes if it scores 89, but rarely do I go lower for my purchase. Then that. My favorite scotch whiskey is the glendronach 15 and 18year without a doubt !!!

    I blended a Tomintoul 14 YO with an Old Ballantruan10. Adding a bit of water it made for a lovely complex dram. Fruity, burnt forrest fire logs, lemon sherbet sour sweets and viognier wine.

  • @jackthepickledhound

    This may sound absurd in 2022, but I just found a shop with a dozen 2018 Arran 18 for sale. It's expensive, about the same as the Bunnahabham 18, but I imagine it is less than what the new version would cost if I ever saw one.
    I love a good sherry and bourbon matured vatting. Preferably 70/30, heavy on the bourbon. So it's quite funny that you mention the skill of the blender and mixing up single malts for yourself.
    I would add a bit of quarter cask to this with great expectations. As I always add 12 year old Glenfarclas to my very golden 105. One is 60% alcohol and one is 57% water.

    • @steveno7058
      @steveno7058 2 года назад

      Buy them. I have 1 backup bottle and wish I bought more. The new 18 is a different animal as its 100% Sherry

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound 2 года назад

      @@steveno7058 6 months ago when I wrote that comment I was thinking it would be cool to be an age snob. "I only drink 18+ Scotch"
      I also was exploring sherry much more and involved with the cult of "young cask strength".
      I hate to think that the future is young but the future is definitely more expensive, and I can't see myself ever buying "entry level" again so these old bottles are right on my budget
      I agree with you, the dual maturation is the best of all worlds.

    Ralfy, a completely random yet critical question! When Arran named their recent quarter cask expression "The Bothy" ... do you feel they might have had you and your reviews in mind? It may be a common word, but I don't know ... there's certainly some coincidence involved! You may be entitled to some copyright royalties, malt mate :-) :-)

    • @thewhiskybothy
      @thewhiskybothy  8 лет назад +4

      . . . 'bothy' is a common word with strong Scottish reference, so I doubt they were thinking of the Internets' most prominent Manx bothy when they named their bottling. I must check out where to buy a bottle !

    How can you make a bad bourbon, taste as good as a single malt?

  • @TheOriginalRaster
    @TheOriginalRaster 8 лет назад

    I have an idea for you (off topic, but Whisky related).
    I just watched a review of a 50 year old Glenfarclas from a reviewer who had a full bottle to show, plus a sample bottle to taste. Very interesting, but I'm here to suggest an idea and to ask a question.
    With your tasting abilities and knowledge I think you should create a product as follows: a Whisky that you bottle which is somehow blended to taste just like that 50 yo Glenfarclas. Priced at something like $70, the bottle would state it is a blend crafted to imitate that specific smell and taste. (Key point is: if your mixture of ingredients ends up tasting like the 50 yo, you sell it as a blend and people would want to buy it.)
    [Everything out in the open, an open inexpensive clone with truth printed on the label.]
    Notice how folks keep ideas to themselves if they think they could make money from an idea? I'm not in any whisky related business, I don't have expertise in smell and taste. Plus I think this is a fun topic. Do you think that such a thing is possible?
    Just based upon your intuition, and if you had to guess, how close do you think you could come to the 50 yo spirit via use of creative blending?
    Thanks.
