I agree. Some people are silly who condemn others for not doing a specific diet. And I so appreciate him sharing his experience as a doctor. That is very good to know. And the article linked! Have a great day. 🙂
Why not BOTH? Exercise AND nutrition? Four of the five blue zones don't have formal gyms. NO vo2 max. I'm 76 years old and I've never had any health issues. No arthritis, aches or pains,no acid reflux. Never had a prescription. Same body weight within a pound as when I graduated High School in 1967 (140 lbs/29" waist). I've never had my vo2 max checked. Mediterranean Diet and movement.
@@craigsolve933they probably are not. Sounds like they don’t so all these extremes. Keep it simple and Mediterranean. Move the body. That’s how my grandma was Ana she lived to be in her 90’s.
Hey Will, count your blessings. But a life in the northern Midwest America, struggling to raise a family, season after season, may not lend itself to a "Mediterranean " way of life. Most of the Blue zones are in a temperate area with simple, community-driven lifestyles.
Nutritional studies may be difficult in isolation, but when tackled from so many different angles, the thousands of studies point in a direction. And that direction is: low saturated fat, high vegetables, high intact whole fruit, high intact unrefined whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds and spices.
Which is why the major food corporations work so hard to addict the public to their particular brand of food, to the point of hiring addiction experts to formulate their product. Always one step ahead of their targeted public. Mostly children....get them while young And! And they pay off the powers that control the farming, production, FDA recommendations, etc. 😢
kurzgesagt: some form of dietary intervention is needed for good health but there is no specific nutritional diet that is proven to be better than others. we need to make a sacrifice when it comes to eating, but what that sacrifice is can vary.
I don't understand the no relationship perspective though. Between medicine and nutrition? Isn't the concern between nurtrition and the body? And also who cares about other people's interpretation of the data. What's his is my question. I did not know that Peter used to blog about nutrition. This is me wishing he still did that. Dang!
Peter absolutely hates the topic of nutrition and will commit to nothing. I don't know why he even does the subject. It is not all that difficult. Follow Dr. Mark Hyman. The man's a guru and completely turned my health around.
I questioning everything, especially advice from government health organizations after reading 'Health and Beauty Mastery' by Julian Bannett, this book exposes so many shocking truths about the health industry. I completely changed my habits.
And thats really the key point that Ive started asking people when they say something is unhealthy, you say, and what do you mean by that? If I have one bite I will be dead within an hour? A week? Or if I eat it every day I will die in a year? Or if i eat it every day, I will develop a high risk for heart disease when Im 68? Am I being poisoned and how so? What is the research telling you or was this something you saw on TikTok? What do you mean by unhealthy exactly? Does it matter if I eat this 10% of the time combined with regular exercise and a balanced diet? Or will I get cancer in 6 months? Or is it only unhealthy if I eat far beyond the recommended serving in a continuous pattern for a long period of time? The reality is, experts in biochemistry and food science, or experts in general, do not speak in absolutes, because food tends to work far more complex than the claims people make about food. Almost all the time.
Diplomatic, Peter or spicy Peter? Maybe someday we’ll get physics. Peter, a doctor that starts to grapple with how light water and magnetism drive all of our biochemistry. That is the Peter we would like to see someday.
For 99% of the people the most important (and often most difficult) factor in nutrition is maintaining energy balance to prevent weight gain. The rest are details in comparison. The importance of preventing obesity is one of the few things in nutrition that we are certain about. P.S. Wasn't Peter a preacher for low carb? Glad he has become atheist
You can’t say that people are misquoting let food be their medicine without actually stating what is reallysaid. But it seems like your nuance thing medicine as a targeted approach to achieve health even though nutritionally you can maximize how healthy you are without the aid of medicine.
This stance on nutrition research is not convincing to me at all. What about the clinical ketogenic diet for drug resistant epilepsy? There is a ton of very rigorous research and 100 years of clinical experience proving its efficacy. Still not convinced? The fact that most epidemiological nutrition research is truly substandard does not mean that there is no high quality research. This sounds like a typical answer I hear from doctors, who are not aware of the research in question. And yet they are comfortable presenting dismissing claims about the impact of clinical nutrition interventions with high certainty. I'd appreciate a more balanced and scientifically oriented view based on the knowledge of the relevant research.
Without even watching it, I'm pretty sure it will be the Mediterranean diet and if it isn't it should be . Don't you get sick of putting the same stuff on week in week out?
Why “should” it be? And when you say “Don’t you” at the start of a question, it’s not a really a question is. It’s more of a projection how you feel rather than it being a genuine a question
OMG, Peter Attia has being talking for 9 minutes and all he's doing is talking in general terms. He's starting to sound like one of those 'other' health influencers.
It’s not rocket science he makes it more confusing than it needs to be. It’s really simple. Keep moving eat Whole Foods plenty of vegetables get plenty of sleep. Get stress out of your life.

I really appreciate that point on the “cult mentality” in the food and nutrition space.. thx
Thanks
