    tips for dealing with specialists
    -the only real way to avoid taking damage from pox bursters once they reach melee range is to push when they dive at you and do a quick back dodge at the same time. its one of those things thats second nature to those who know but might not seem intuitive at first glance.
    -pox burster detonations deal tons of damage vs infestation enemy types. this was done to make them chain detonate each other but it will also outright kill dogs and some poxwalker hordes (the ones with horns and no clothes)
    -the only way to avoid a charging mutant is to get out of the way, but he has a fairly generous dodge window. when his hand goes up, dodging or dodge sliding to the side will cause him to run right by you.
    -if a mutant catches you near a wall or a ledge he will simply throw you without slamming you around for no damage. this can be done intentionally and has save my life more than once
    - you can always tell when a dog is about to pounce as it briefly stops in place right before the pounce.
    -dogs can be dodged, but it feels inconsistent because netcode. i find it easier to treat them the same as a pox burster, as pushing a dog at any point, even during a pounce will stun them for a brief moment before they run away and reset. the timing is very generous and the range is deceptively long for your push, so you can spam it a little if you dont know the exact timing
    -if a teammate gets cought in a trapper net, try and free them asap before doing anything else. freeing a teammate is almost instant and the trapper that fired the net it will run away and reload for 10-20 seconds before attempting to trap another player and is completely harmless during this time
    -boss enemies can be stunned with exploding barrels

    • @aubendog
      @aubendog 14 дней назад +8

      if a beast of nurgle swallows your teammate, dealing enough damage to his crit spot on his back will make him throw them up early
      if a chaos spawn grabs your teammate to munch on them, getting within melee range will interrupt it and cause it to swing your teammate around and then throw them, saving them from corruption damage and preventing the boss from healing

      Having played this game for 70+ hours as of right now, I felt like timing-based dodges and even timing-based pushes can be horrendously inconsistent somehow. Sometimes, I'll push back a leaping dog without issue, sometimes I'll push it with that same timing I know from experience is supposed to work flawlessly and yet still have my face eaten.
      Same thing with dodging trappers's nets, I've seen sessions failing because of the last player standing successfully dodging a trapper's net on the way to save the team and the day but the game said "Nuh huh" and they still got caught. Three. Times. In a fucking. Row.

    • @thedomoking
      @thedomoking 13 дней назад +6

      If I may add to the Trapper point. You can still tag while in a Trapper's net, so tag them while your team gets you up so they don't lose track of it.

      I've noticed some doggo weirdness lately. Namely that sometimes they don't stop before pouncing, and sometimes they just ignore pushes, and pounce right after. Flying dogs never seem to do this. I wonder if this is also latency based.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk The issue is that the other weapons are underperforming IMO, but I won’t entirely disagree with the notion that the finesse weapons are a bit much in carapace damage output. I’d rather not see another nerfed to misery situation like the railgun from Helldivers 2 at launch. The question was whether a particular tool was over-tuned (true) or if the other tools were underperforming (also true) and it failed to address both at once. This put the game balance in a chaotic state for a good while, and the lack of stable balance (among other issues) prompted folks to just walk away and never look back.

    Im glad that you emphasis and spend extra time on melee. New players need to understand that the Tide games, no matter your class or build, is a melee focused game. You can increase the ratio of ranged:melee combat depending on your build, but even a ranged focus build needs to rely on melee in tough times. So much now I see low-true-level psykers and veterans with their guns and staffs out and refusing to pull their melee (the game tells us its our primary) until they're ten toes deep in the corpse starch mounds. And I'm seeing them in auric-damn and maelstroms

    • @xon0930
      @xon0930 8 дней назад +1

      So very true, but I will say with 1 personal semi-exception: the trauma staff
      I've got a BB, 2x shield, empowered psionics, trauma staff, and dueling sword build that I rarely pull out my melee with except in specific circumstances because of its role in the kit. I have the focused channeling and warp flurry blessings on the staff, and I use it in melee and ranged combat. When things get close, a minimum charged ground blast will stagger in a good radius, and with warp flurry, that can let you get off a full charged blast, which will even knock over crushers once. With a peril generation reduction build, I can just constantly cast, and with crystaline will, I don't even have to quell if I don't have time to. I take 2 extra wound curios, so I can overload up to 3 times between each medicae without even going down.
      BB handles long distance armor cracking, while the rapier handles close range armor cracking. You can just full charge blast right behind a crusher and he'll fall over, giving you plenty of time to get multiple headshots in while he's helpless and standing back up.
      There are times where you get stuck in melee, but I find it happens much less often with this build.

    • @lqg4395
      @lqg4395 6 дней назад

      No just no, Vet and Psyker need specific builds to NOT melt in melee. I mostly play Heresy and Damnation with occasional Auric and if you try to melee as psyker who is not built for it you will die unceremoniously.

    • @Heavynaut
      @Heavynaut 5 дней назад

      @@xon0930 I agree. There are builds that more than excel with ranged let alone more than excel the constant need for melee. But what I’d point to is even with your ranged options out you are using dodging, sliding etc which are universal but melee mechanics. And I’d guess that the times you do pull melee out are the close ranged armour cracking (dueling s. Penetration is crazy), and with the dueling sword specifically to make space between yourself and enemies (dueling sword/dagger blocking+dodge distance is crazy).
      Theres nothing wrong with running a build like this, I’ve seen it work incredibly well. But for new players what I’d argue is they are more likely to have a harder time learning those universal mechanics and skills of the game if they keep their ranged option out for +80% if a game in higher difficulties than knowing when it’s time to put the gun away and push or block. Even functionally using your melee as a “block machine” to make space to go back to ranged highlights (even without attacking) why learning melee combat is more essential to surviving and winning. They’re both extremely important, but if a player fights learning the melee mechanics they’re in for a bad time

    • @Heavynaut
      @Heavynaut 5 дней назад

      @@lqg4395 yes just yes. The -Tide games are a first person game focused in melee.
      both vet and Psyker are extremely strong and sturdy in melee as any of the classes are. They have skills that give them universal damage buffs that make them extremely competitive in melee. They both also have very strong toughness damage reduction options. Vet’s iron will is one of them, psyker’s one with the warp is another. Both skills you should genuinely be taking regardless of your build and playstyle.
      Skriers+disrupt destiny, VoC and weapon specialist are probably one of each classes’ strongest melee combinations that are extremely competitive. The entire game is melee orientated. You can make ranged builds but what skills are you relying on when things get tough? I’m talking about blocking, dodging, pushing, sliding. These are melee mechanics that you need universally. Let alone to say that vet and Psyker aren’t good in melee or will “melt” is not true. The weapon referred to as your primary is your melee. If new players don’t learn melee combat before crutching themselves on ranged builds even if they’re good or meta builds, they’re going to be the ones that have a harder time learning how to deal with tricky situations where their ranged doesn’t work.
      Genuinely and no shade meant by it but by saying vet and Psyker melt in melee I wonder if you yourself have a misunderstanding of the -Tide game’s melee mechanics. Even at such a high level, that is the very thing I’m describing. Learning melee and understanding its importance no matter your playstyle will most significantly impact your survivability even in a “squishier” character like Psyker.

      @xon0930 5 дней назад +1

      @@Heavynaut If you're referring to dodging and movement as part of melee, then yeah, that's part of playing ranged, but I was more referring to actually using your melee weapon. Every class for sure will have moments where if you don't swap to your melee weapon, you're making a mistake, but some builds can make those moments occur less often.
      I've been teaching a friend the basics of darktide with this update, and he's started enjoying it a lot more once he learned to put away his gun on vet when he gets engaged in melee.

    On the "dying is almost always your fault" thing. Always make sure you yourself are safe (or safe-ish) before attempting to save someone in trouble. There's a good chance they're in trouble for a reason. Especially if they are far away, getting to them might put you in incredible danger, because the game actively targets strays. Either the guy is surrounded by trappers and flamers, or there's some on the way to them, waiting to catch you off-guard. This can easily cause a cascade, where you get trapperd close to the other person, someone else tries to come to save you, it happens to them, and suddenly one trapper wiped the entire group.
    So in general, someone rushing far ahead of the group is usually just looking for trouble. And no matter how experienced, trouble can find them in a form they weren't prepared for. And if it does, they're more or less dead. The remaining 3 of you might be better off just letting them go than make a risky rescue.
    The game's always a delicate balance of risk vs. time. Since enemy spawns operate on a timer, lingering creates opportunities for danger, while rushing practically guarantees them. So the question is: Can you handle the risks, and at what cost?

    All good advice, but for the new players I’d put another into the top three: Ping specials. It’s especially helpful for the enemies that can be difficult to spot or track. Flamers are obscured by fire when shooting, dogs blend into crowds at knee level, snipers are specks in the distance, and masses of Ogryn can all clip into each other and hide dangerous wind-ups.
    And of course if you’re using the Focus Target talent keystone for Veterans, you’ll want to ping whatever you’re shooting at with almost 100% consistency.

    Reported to Inquisition for obvious Heresy. But a couple additions and corrections:
    Movement... there are really only two techs left, Knife Heavy and Vault Dodging, maybe Great Sword Heavy but not sure. The former requires a Combat Blade but when timed correctly can somewhat increase your speed, while the latter only requires a vault-able platform edge to Dodge off of but can create significant space with minimum stamina.
    Dodging and Sliding... Dodging ranged is often a losing game, Sliding rarely is, but additionally you can Dodge Slide into all directions you can Dodge into which can give you enough extra distance to avoid Melee Combos or to kite melee while pressing towards ranged.

    Focusing on how you can improve yourself rather than blaming your teammates is very good skill, but I wouldn't place so much emphasis on "the best players can solo auric damnation missions, so your teammates are just a safety net". Darktide is a team game, and _teamwork_ is a skill players should learn. Learn when to support your teammates, identify roles that are lacking and try to fill them, ping enemies to improve your team's awareness. Linger a little if someone is lagging behind, so you're in a position to help them. Know when to push to rescue somebody, but just as important, know when to leave them to their fate and protect the rest of the team.
    Good teamwork is a force multiplier, the effectiveness of a team can be greater than the sum of the individuals playing.

The amount of damage they are capable of dealing relative to the small mobility penalties they offer is most definitely a "Super secret meta".

    I've loved using pysker despite the class being a supreme glass cannon because you are quite the anti-armor damage dealer.
    with that dodge counter mod, im hoping to focus a bit more on avoiding melee damage, because most of the time thats what downs me.

      Yes! I'm still working on solo runs as a way to kill time until Havocs. I've seen players do it so I know it can be done but I think, ironically, I might be fighting too much.
      Good tips from you.

    There is so much good info in this video, while showing how easily it is to fall into ones own headspace. The last part about "fun maxxing" is a nice idea, but only one possible approach to the game, or any game, that's specific to YOU and a few others may share, but by no means universal at all. Presenting it as a fact, no matter the intention behind it, is problematic at best. Especially because you can easily be seen as more knowledgeable about the game. I noticed this in most of your videos recently.
    Despite how this comment may sound, you are still a valuable member of the community and it is better with you in it. Keep up the great work. The emperor protects.

      I am glad you think the video information is sufficient for newer players, who are its target audience. I'm personally a bit tired of the "here's how you craft a gun" tutorial as if that system even matters to gameplay. But I am struggling to understand exactly what you are taking issue with here in the cited section of my video. Would you care to make a second attempt to explain?

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Apologies for the delayed reply. I rarely comment (read "never") and RUclips didn't show any notifications.
      What I'm talking about is a simple mentality problem. Specifically subjective dissonance, meaning you make the elementary mistake of judging from your point of view onto others. In this case the audience when giving advice.
      While the "fun maxxing" segment (in itself a great idea for the video) is the most egregious, as it doesn't involve any data or mechanics of the game and is only a matter of opinion, a easier to grasp example would be your talent recommendations in your recent videos for the new weapons of the Grim Protocol update. These where well informed (as usual) and overall pretty damn great. What suck out to me though were your comments on 2 talents of the Psyker swords. Namely "Momentum" and "Deflection". Long story short, you ranked them low and claim they are mostly unnecessary as their effects can be mitigated by playing better. For Deflection you said that getting caught out by gunfire is always your fault (implying one should and has to always do optimal plays at all times) and you called Momentum out specifically as a noob crutch until one learns the mechanics, as if it were everyone's goal to make the previously mentioned optimal plays at all time and any time that's not the case it is just time spent learning them. This is essentially just a very eloquent way to say "Git Gud" and "Just dodge lol". While the advice is solid and well meaning, its a very narrow and unhelpful view to have.
      This loops back to the "fun maxxing" segment and how you explained how Darktide is like a dynamic puzzle game to you that you enjoy solving over and over. There is nothing wrong with this approach. I am in fact of the same opinion and also think that view gets the most enjoyment out of the complex game and its repetitive nature.
      BUT that is not the case for everyone, and I myself enjoy the occasional mindless murder session without thinking too hard about mechanics or "the dance". Just lights or mag dumps into a horde and heavies and also mag dumps into crushers and bosses. When building for this, I look for ways to essentially be able to brute force some of the lighter "puzzles" like a lightly mixed horde with ragers and gunners by sheer weight of my talents and blessings, without using any advanced mechanics. I don't do that into Aurics of course, but in these cases talents such as Momentum (happy to see psyker get access to it) are great for blood soaked survivability without having to think of blocking properly. In this case "Momentum" for example isn't just a noob crutch, but a conscious choice for an alternate way to see and play the game.
      This extends to your build videos as a whole too, as most are built on the premise that they need a too for every situation and in essence have to be able to solo carry a game as if one were to attempt a true solo run. Almost any builds you suggest has to have fall within this one man army type and while rarely outright stating it, you speak as if one has to be capable of soloing a run at any time, regardless of teammates, disregarding the fact that there are three other players with you that should hopefully carry their own weight. This is not to critique your builds or videos, as they are both the perfect content to present into a vacuum, since team builds are much more complex and hard to pull off in public matches.
      A short tangent about true solo/duo/whatever, because it has appeared in the past and is part of the same problem. You generally speak positively about true handicap runs as if they are something to aspire to ( I assume as an ultimate test of ones skill?) when in reality they are, while possible, NOT part of Darktide at all, the game is not designed around it and they should never taken into account when creating and presenting builds unless they are specifically for that purpose, or a mention that it also works there.
      Why? Because not everyone thinks the same about true handicap runs and your enjoyment of them is not universal.
      You are enjoy the gameplay challenges of the game and are good at it for that reason, while being good at the game feeds your enjoyment of the gameplay challenges in a positive feedback loop. This is not the case for everyone. Its also why I think your Dueling Sword rework suggestion is horrible as it fails its fantasy, but that's much more about opinion and I won't get into it. This is WAY too long already.
      All of this is to say that you fall into the trap of presenting your views as universal and often even back this up with statistical data, (correctly) interpreted to suite your own view. Most likely subconsciously in a form of confirmation bias. You are not lesser for it and I fall into the same mental mistakes more often than not. Hell, I might have in this wall of text without realizing it. I only want to point these flaws out to you in an attempt to help you make even better videos the same way you helped me get better at the game.
      Non of this is meant to be disparagingly or in a patronizing way. You are much better and more knowledgeable at the game than I'll likely ever be, and I bow before thy wisdom (too much? But I mean it). You are a still a valuable member of the Tide community and we would be lesser without you. I genuinely just want to help.

    Has anyone made a full melee guide for this game.
    Like when to push spam to get through the hoard. How to get to different attacks faster like mk4 knife heavy 3 with 2 light attacks while running to have the heavy 3 for optimal single target dmg at the point of engagement. Combos like heavy push push attack for high single target dps ,the fact that there is a push attack on every weapon, how the heavy and light chains work how to block to reset and always have access to your first heavy or light attack, how your block attack is uesually a fast route to your second heavy or light attack. How on some weapons sprinting makes your heavy1 always come out and therefore you have to consider if you want to use that attack and therefore if want to sprint then attack or attack and sprint. Cuz often the heavy 1 is a strike down that will leave you open if you started charging your heavy 2 then sprinted into he hoard oops your now low on stamina and only one guy is staggered no take backs
    Also best darktide guide out there but you could always be brutal and tell them about the numerous crutches people can get sucked in by like stun-locking the hoard with smite will teach you nothing about the game. And in-fact detract from your experience same with only every using ranged weapons as you mentioned same to a degree with shout until death and relic. Maybe also warn everyone who plays zealot that they have a ridiculously large amount of survivability and while yes your teammates do need to be able to not just fall over you should peel sometimes. It can even be quite fun saving people from an insane elite wave. On the other hand if you died and you see your zealot is no where near you he probably picked up 300 resources soloed 3 elite waves and figured the 3 meta goblins with mk4 dueling swords remembered to bring thrust and could handle the crushers. He ran past because gunners are arguable more oppressive.

    I started in oct and was able to get auric exemplar last week. Pskyer main so my melee skills were horrible so i switched to my zealot for the pennace. Block push and stamina managment were key for me. Running out of stamina and getting swarmed by little enemies is a death sentence for new players. A week ago i was swinging wildly at everything and wondering why i was always dying. Now auric damnation doesnt scare me 😂. Well a little bit
