Borderlands 3 is a forthcoming action role-playing first-person shooter video game, the sequel to 2012's Borderlands 2 and the fourth installment in the Borderlands franchise. Borderlands 3, developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, is set to be released on September 13, 2019, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Google Stadia port has been confirmed with a later release date.
Troy and Tyreen Calypso, the game's antagonists, discover other Vaults beyond the planet Pandora and organize a violent cult known as the "Children of the Vault" to seize possession of them. Lilith, a player character from the previous Borderlands game, recruits the player's new "Vault Hunter" persona to help stop the Calypso twins. Many characters from previous Borderlands games will return, including those from the spin-off game Tales from the Borderlands.
Borderlands 3 is a loot-based first-person shooter. Players, either alone or in groups of up to four, create a character from one of four classes and complete various missions assigned by non-playable characters (NPCs) and bounty boards to earn experience, in-game monetary rewards, and reward goods. Players can also obtain these things by fighting adversaries in the game. As the player progresses through the levels, they receive skill points that can be allocated throughout a skill tree. The game adds four new playable characters: Amara, a "Siren" who summons ethereal fists; Moze, a youthful "Gunner" who rides the mecha Iron Bear; Zane, a "Operative" with a range of gadgets; and FL4K, a robot "Beastmaster" who summons monsters to aid in battles. Unlike prior Borderlands.
