Robbie has such expressive eyes, and when he smiles, even if his smile is a little sad, his smile lights up the room. Love Robbie and The Band. Miss them.
You missed Van Morrison and Dr. John. "The Weight", featuring the Staple Singers, and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" are my favorites from that film.
This is from. “The last waltz” Filmed by Martin Scorsese. This film is the definitive rock music film The songs and music are insanely great Watch it immediately. And watch it again
Please, please watch the Martin Scorsese documentary/movie The Last Waltz. This video was taken from The Last Waltz. It's the best music movie/doc I've ever seen. It's about The Band preparing for their farewell concert, which was in San Francisco in 197..1976 I think. It's time well spent.
On the stage for this cut people of note are all of The Band, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell ,Ronnie Hawkins. Paul Butterfield .Bobby Charles, Neil Diamond ,Van Morrison ,Ringo Starr Ronnie Woods and Muddy Waters
Looking at Neil Young's expression, reminds me of what Robbie wrote in his book "When Neil took the stage I knew no one at Winterland were feeling better than Neil".
It is obvious from the last clip, why Robbie was done touring. His eyes and sad smile says it all as he mentions all the musicians that the road had taken. Besides that he had a wife and 3 small children, his son wrote on Robbie's Facebook page, how he and his sisters were so thrilled to have their dad back. He then recounted how his dad would be up early in the morning, making him breakfast before taking him to his little legue game, Robbie sounds like a great father, he did the right thing for his family.
Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Ringo Starr and Ron Wood, oh and I almost forgot Eric Clapton. That is why The Last Waltz is considered one of the best concert films of all times.
The concert is The Last Waltz, which was the farewell concert of The Band, like Robbie expresses in his comment, the road could be dangerous. He had had it, and wanted to spend more time with his family (wife and 3 small children) and were exhausted trying ot keep The Band together, even with 3 members doing heroin and god knows what else
If there is anyone out there who considers themselves as a music fan and have not yet watched The Last Waltz in it's entirety , then I'm calling the cops ! In fact while I'm doing that i will give the guys wearing white coats a call too ! It is without a shadow of a doubt in my opinion , the finest music documentary you will ever see . The musicality , the talent ,the originality and the brilliant music all combined makes it head and shoulders above anything else . This was the true end of the Rock era for me and those fantastic artists saved the very best for last ...The Las t Waltz ...THIS FILM SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD !!!!!
