We started the latest leg of our adventure atop Brownsmountain, the 500-meter-high mountain near the town of Brownsweg. We had quite a bit to do before our drivers could finally take us back to Paramaribo, so it would take several hours. We had to take a crazy, cracked and muddy road to leave the area. There were so many mud holes treacherous areas and we still had at least 2 or 3 hours left in our journey.
We almost got stuck so many times, but after an hour and four minutes, we reached the paved road. We changed our plans and decided to head straight to Paramaribo instead of the additional stops we’d initially planned. We stopped at a store, where I was able to buy some local insect repellent since I was out of OFF! Deep Woods.
We had a 90-minute drive ahead of us. I was starting to see restaurants with 10 minutes left and I was getting hungry! I loved my experience in Brownsweg and Isadao Island in the interior of the country, and I was heading to another location deep within Suriname the next day. We stopped at the Downtown Oasis, the guesthouse I stayed at earlier in my trip, but they were full for the night, so I got a room at the Guesthouse Kiwi instead for $20 for the night.
My boy Imro carried my bags up the stairs to my room, which was very standard. From there, we headed out to the roti shop to get some Indian food. We odered a huge spread, including two different rotis, vada, shrimp curry, an egg, tomato chutney, aloo, liver, green beans, duck, sheep, and liver with kidneys.
The roti was gigantic! I tore a piece and dove into the liver and kidneys, which was outstanding. I loved the dry gravy. The aloo was also nice and al dente. There was a spicy chutney next to it , which was super hot. The duck was also amazing, and the shrimp curry blew my mind! It was out of control! The flavors and spices were amazing and I loved the textures. This meal was like a non-veg thali!
Next, I dove into the vada, which is usually like a potato fritter, but this one was made of flour. I tried it with the spicy, red chutney, which was crazy hot. The green beans were also really tasty.
After a sip of water, I went back to the shrimp curry and liver. Everything was so fresh! The duck had more bones than the sheep, which was really good. The sheep was more gamy. I loved the gravy that came with it, and I was loving eating with my hands. You have to try the Indian food when you come to Suriname. It’s part of the heritage.
Then I tried the vada with mango chutney, which was ridiculously good. It was sweet and fruity. I mixed it with the cayenne chutney, which is way too hot. This was my favorite meal in Suriname so far!
Then I went with the chicken curry, which was super fresh and spicy. Then I grabbed some of the duck sauce in the roti, which was freaking insane!
I hope you enjoyed coming with me on my trip from Brownsweg and my Surinamese Indian dinner! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave a comment below. Also, please subscribe so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

I left Suriname at 8, miss the fruits, fishing (kids fish a lot in Sr) and the festivals
Roti is always made the best by own mommies with the gravy of fish, chicken, lam, duck or potatoe ...

I love how you don’t go to the posh hotels. You choose to live like the locals. I love it. Keep up the great vlogs.
To eat the best Indian food David had to visit a local Indian aunty or nanie.
He was staying at Royal Torarica when he first arrived, so he mixed it up a bit
Anywhere this guy goes... He hunts down Indian food... Kudos
David are you sure, that you are not an Indian ? My mouth was watering watching you eat. You are the Best because of your attitude, so humble and friendly.

Love your comment roti & aalu, Indian 🇮🇳👳 effect. 💕😍
Hey david, it was great watching your videos of Suriname. I'm from there and have not really seen anyone taking an interest into the country. But the people and the food are the most amazing thing from this country, a real melting pot and the fact that all these cuisines have been integrated and every body eats everything on a daily basis. I live in New Jersey now but there is no place like home!!!
Heh heh finally i've seen you tasted it,i was waiting for roopram🇸🇷
*🕉️ 🚩 🇮🇳 INDIA 🇮🇳 🚩 🕉️*
The Surinamese Bara or Vada as Indians call it isnot with patato. Maybe the Indian version is. But in Surinam we make it from Urdi flower (mung bean flower) and with a leaf called tayerblad. Enjoy your stay and food David!!
in eastern india, we call it bara.
Same thing her,it's Vada from Urdi and Aloo Vada is different.
It's called bada/bara in many parts in India, especially Eastern and central. In southern region the term vada is common for the same thing.
The vada is tasteless our Bara has flavor. I went to saravanaa Bhawan and their vada was so not tasty! Or maybe I should try in India
@Shock G yeah yeah you peasant. Go eat dog now.
You eat like a champion 💪🏾😋😋🔥🔥🔥
Roopram Roti the best ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥

The Indian food in Suriname looks just like ours in Trinidad, had no idea until Isaw this video Thanks for showing David and safe travels.
Looks like the Indian food in Fiji too absolutely delicious we also big on fresh chickens duck lamb❤
Best food ever, love the bara and roti, and that chicken is the best.
Thanl you David.
David, thats how indians in Su are enjoying life...with owesome curry dishes...im glad you enjoyed it also, and the yummy part are the mango pickles ( chutney) and cayenne pepper....keep it up bro..
Finally you ate Indian food, Surinamese style. Glad you enjoyed it.
Beautifull and sweet Suriname, the road is red dusted and full of wholes! I think it was rainy time ..the colour red is because of the bauxiet is found over there!! The Indian food is soo deliciouse, googery, Barra, plauri, roti with curry and much more!!!
Bara or Vada is made from a mixture of flour, lentil paste, shredded vegetables nd Indian spices. No potato fritter David. It is occasionaly eaten with a potato chokha.
And our favorite person on the planet....DAVID 🥂🙏 Cheers
The duck curry looks delicious the darker it is the better it tastes it’s my favorite from one of your Fiji Indian cousins here you guys eat like us❤❤❤

You definitely have an Indian palate bro. I like how you pronounced aloo, paratha, very good! You sounded like an Indian person. I believe Fiji Indian food is the same, it definitely looks a like. My parents were born in Fiji & came to the States in the 70's. Fiji Indian food is so tasty!

Thank you David for the excellent coverage you give for Indians and Indian food in India, USA and Suriname and the coverage on Chinese and Indonesians in Suriname as well.
In spite of having long shore lines, Suriname, French Guyana, and Guyana(where I visited some years back) they are not able to develop beach tourism like Caribbean islands.due to the water being too dark in color.
Had the tourism sector developed, these countries would have experienced tremendous economic growth.
Corruption is the main cause for not developing the plentiful natural resources in this part of the world.
The road to and from brouwnsberg is an adavanture itself.
Tropical Bush is a really good repellent in Suriname. It saved me from all the bites.
Love this channel, and promoting Surinam. Love it. Mouthwatering, that Roopram Roti is the best. Thank you Davidsbeenhere for this. Glad you enjoyed it all.
Thanks for sharing David!

Hello David.... Suriname is what attracted me to your channel...
I've to tell you as a Surinamese i've indulged in my country food and indian (asian) food. And dahling.... they are NOT the same. The name is, but the taste is totally totally different. I do love ❤ your videos and I just became your fan. 💕
Percies die idioten uit india denken dat hindustanen zelfde mentaliteit en gerechten en gewoontes hebben en dat Suriname een hinduland is
00:41 this is the one thing I liked most of the video, the man-handshake. Its like the international handshake you guys only understand 😆😆😆
Could you please come to Trinidad? We're one short flight away from sr...
Amrita Paltoo I want to go! I have actually been trying to do that trip but the tourism board is not very helpful and I usually work with someone in order to create the best content
@@Davidsbeenhere that's a shame they're not helpful. I'm not qualified as a tour guide but whenever you visit, I can suggest you try out the curried goat patchownie (tripe and belly of the goat). My mother makes it best. Penal also has the aloe pie shed for $2.00 any items, just $2.00. Also the doubles you can try that too. In Debe there's a chain of fast food Indian delicacies which hopefully your tour guide can take you. If you're interested in tasting some homemade patchownie, let me know, but I won't be visiting my home country till next year.
@Kaiser Wilhelm II lmao, umm okkkkkkk..
@@Davidsbeenhere our tourism board isn't ever helpful and also at this time they're undergoing a ton of changes because of the elections that are ahead of us, I don't qualify as a tour guide but I can get someone to look into it for you, I have a ton of friends who do promotions for our islands, our food is amazing and so is our people, I could get more information for you if you like!
