Those who become apprentices, such as plumbers, contractors, mechanics, out of high school or even earlier, are earning more than almost all college graduates at the age of 21! In fact, today, a great number of undergrads do not even get their four year degree until six years after they begin, not because they are working their way through college, but because federal guaranteed loans means that they are able to pay for the extra two years of having fun with loans instead of earned money, meaning their student loan debt starts out half again as large as it need to be even if the student did not work before and after they began college!

And if a person thinks that a trades-person, anyone who did not go to collage, or chose to learn a skill, without taking on unpayable debt, is a 'loser', that is not the fault of the taxpayers, who would be paying for that loan. Those taxpayers are America. Integrity and personal accountability, are virtues that need to be learned at home, America doesn't tell them to do anything. Now what is great is that people are becoming more aware that college isn’t the end all be all, but even 10 years ago, it was construed as an end all be all.
As common practice has been, you go to college so that you can “live” and extravagant life. The vast majority want to live an extravagant life, therefore they’re forced to go into college. Now, I work trade skill jobs. And what I see is the vast majority of people working a trade, aren’t living an extravagant life. It’s hard work and it’s barely enough to keep a roof over your head (depending on that persons spending habits).

You're comparing apples to oranges. Why should a person who graduated high school, went to work as an electrician's apprentice, learned the trade, became a certified electrician, himself, invested money he worked hard for and saved to start his own business, why should that person be expected to pay for someone else's college degree? Why should a person who worked a full-time job and spent the majority of the money she earned to pay for her tuition to college so she would owe very little, if anything at all, why should she have to pay for someone else's college degree? Why should that person who took out loans to pay for college, graduated, got a job and spent the first 15 years of his career making personal sacrifices to pay off his college debt, why should that person have to pay for someone else's college degree?

Taking this out further, what you are saying is that since someone had a hardship in the past, that we shouldn't do anything to fix it because they couldn't get that help. Going even further, since women didn't get to vote before a certain date, then no woman should get the right to vote because there were ones that didn't get the right.
Let's point out a couple things: First, the relief is $10k, which doesn't pay for anyone's degree. Second, the people taking on this debt are not freeloaders. They are working hard and making sacrifices to repay that debt and also try and achieve a life. Third, nobody is being asked directly to pay off any debt. You don't get to pick and choose where your tax dollars go. Finally, the fact that people have to take on that debt to get a college degree is ridiculous. The final thing can be placed solely at the feet of repubes and Reagan.

I worked the summers, and was a part time student and part time worker towards the end and graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and I had zero debts upon graduation. Should look into why colleges cost so much money for ho hum degrees. My computer fees were 2 times what the Liberal Arts students were paying and they spent more times playing games on them. My time in college took longer too as I had a service connected issue that the VA now denies it was service connected. I encountered former hippie professors who hated Vets and yet somehow I got thru and I don't owe anyone anything.

To keep students, schools will HAVE to cut costs to compete with other schools and that will bring the cost down to an affordable level. There are no situations where a personal debt should be forgiven without consequences and certainly no reason to forgive a contract willingly entered into to improve ones life should be covered by a third party who had nothing to do with the contract, didnt have that opportunity, or lived up to their responsibilities.

Just like his pull-out from Afghanistan which was treasonous in my humble opinion, and he should have been impeached for that alone, he has been wrong on every single Geo political issue for the past 30 years. He is beyond stupid when it be comes to preserving our democracy and preserving western values throughout the world.
Some People don’t realize the significance of Putin taking over the Ukraine. Look at history and look at the psychology of people like Vladimir Putin. Do you think he’s gonna stop with Ukraine? He will then go after the Baltic states and further his meddling in the Balkans.
I really don’t understand anybody’s opposition to us supporting the Ukraine. This is a test of how willing the West is motivated to stand up for its values and it’s hegemony.
Autocratic regimes throughout the world are on the rise and have been for a number of years. If we capitulate to Putin in the Ukraine and to China in Taiwan we are going to find ourselves pretty isolated down the road. We may not like it, and it may be expensive, but defending the Ukraine is not only in the best interest of a moderately civilized country but is definitely in the interest of the United States and the western European democracies.

Rep. Scott keeps changing the subject from the cost of tuition to the cost of going to college. I worked for a major southern university, and I saw how student loans make it possible for students to have a college experience much more expensive than their families would otherwise be able to afford. They could rent an off-campus apartment instead of sharing a dorm room with a roommate. This required a car for getting back and forth. They ate in restaurants instead of using college-provided on-campus food services. Some were able to take advantage of "educational" foreign travel. And boy, were they able to party!
