    Leafs have 3 of the top 10 highest paid contracts in the NHL. It works great in the regular season but makes it really hard to build a team with proper depth for the playoffs around that.

    I can’t understand why GMPD gave 2M to branstrom before signing pinto. Branny has 4 career goals and 45 helpers in 190 games. Not exactly great numbers for an “offensive defenseman”

    You gotta put "Toronto Maple Leafs" in the title, and maybe put some blue with a TML logo in the corner of the thumbprint photo if you want Leafs fans to find this, click on it, and blow up your numbers. It's far too peaceful in here so far!

    I find it's a pretty good sign of people not paying attention to the league as a whole if they point to defense as the Leafs problem. For the last two seasons combined, the Leafs allowed the 6th fewest shots/60 and 6th fewest xG/60 at 5v5

      I was admittedly surprised to find this out considering how underwhelming their defense corps is on paper. Samsonov’s 21.24 GSAx definitely bolstered them last season, but credit to them for overcoming what presents as a mediocre group of six.

      @@everydaysens Their D core is pretty underwhelming from an overall skill standpoint, but everyone aside from Rielly is a strong defender and they do have a Selke finalist

    In fairness we had injuries too last year and our depth proved to be pretty bad sputtering and not making the playoffs last year. Really gotta bank on the goaltending taking a big step this year or it could very well be the same situation.

  • @domskix4616
    @domskix4616 Год назад +1

    The one major thing. This is a Toronto team that is over the cap. Like look at how may NTC there are. They are going to need to dump someone who is 4 million + who will that be? Ottawa Pinto needs signing....that all we all the Joseph is the the target. But we as still not over the cap

    • @WardOwnsYou
      @WardOwnsYou Год назад +1

      They're 2.9mil over the cap. Where are you getting 4mil? They could trade Jarnkrok+Lafferty and be fine.

    • @domskix4616
      @domskix4616 Год назад

      I know that reading is dropping in Ontario but please read what i wrote again slowly and you might see what I mean. Secondly in your scenario, yes move a guy with a M-NTC (These are the leafs biggest issue - with most teams that he might want to go to being cap strapped too = fun!) when you get ride of both of them you back under the cap with 200k (ish) to spare. You now have 11 forwards.... with 200k you can't even use the best rookie contract you have to replace them (which is 775k) . Therefore my statement of the leafs needing to drop 4 million to allow even a rookie contract is correct. I look forward to the apology. Where do you get ride of more as a organization while still having a skater to replace them. Final Thought, Dubas screwed you and ran. @@WardOwnsYou

    • @WardOwnsYou
      @WardOwnsYou Год назад

      @domskix4616 you are so lost on the Leafs cap that it's actually comical. They have 3 goalies on the roster attributing to the cap(they will only carry 2). So on top of the 200k you can add Martin Jones 875k and now you easily have enough to call anyone up to be the 12th forward. Therefore your statement is wrong. Go back to school, kid. You're really dumb and you're the worst kind of dumb, the dumb that thinks they're smart.
      Edit: I'll wait for my apology now

    • @dalenh15
      @dalenh15 Год назад +1

      yeah you're just wrong. They aren't holding 3 goalies, so send down Jones 875k and they have over 1mil to have any random call-up for the 12th forward. The Leafs fan is unfortunately right, you're wrong. @domskix4616

  • @dalenh15
    @dalenh15 Год назад

    Whiffed big time on the Leafs D. I don't like the Leafs as much as the next Sens fan but their defense has absolutely not been their issue. It's lack of scoring down the lineup in the playoffs. They're actually a good defensive team from the forwards to the backend.

      You have to keep in mind that they absolutely aren't 13mil over the cap. Murray LTIR, Muzzin LTIR. They are 2-3mil over. So trade Brodie, and they're fine.

  • @JSL0202
    @JSL0202 Год назад +1

    I think you guys are underrating Timmy a bit, and may be overhyping Matthews. I think the gap is closer than people think. Is Matthews better? Yeah, 100%. But I find it interesting that everybody is acting like Matthews is just coming off a 60 goal season. Last season he had 40 goals in 74 games. The year before? 60 in 73 games. That is a crazy drop off. Maybe it’s my Sens bias, but whose to say Matthews hits 60 again? How many more seasons is he going to hit 50? And if he isn’t a perennial 50 goal scorer, is this contract worth it?
    Timmy has only had a good season once. Give it a year time. And if Matthews doesn’t hit 50 this coming year and Timmy does surpass 40, I think the comparisons will start to heat up

    • @Nimajneb42069
      @Nimajneb42069 Год назад

      I think a big difference your ignoring is how much more complete Matthews is. 6’3 and one of the better defensive centres in the league.

  • @WardOwnsYou
    @WardOwnsYou Год назад +2

    The comparisons aren't bad, but you're way off on the defensive side for Toronto. Their defense isn't the issue. Their forward depth is, which is why they got Domi/Bertuzzi. Their too defensive, kinda the opposite of what you guys were saying, its why they were top 10 in GA. They needed a guy like Klingberg to push the puck up the ice. That being said, Rielly is hands down better than every Dman on the Sens, although Sanderson, Chabot, and Chychrun are better than every Dman not named Rielly on the Leafs. Goaltending isn't close, I'd take Woll/Samsonov over any goalie the Sens have had in the past 2yrs. Also, Knies is better than every single player in the Sens bottom-6.

    Why compare these two teams when Ottawa is lucky to fight for a wild card spot when the leafs are more than likely going to win the Atlantic. You guys had good young players for a couple of years now and haven’t done anything. At least the leafs have great regular seasons lol
