    This is called a show! Not a studio recording session. That's why don't care how dirty he plays on live show!

      Not that it's dirty , it's just cus he plays it bad . Maybe due to the fact he runs around . But they're all old and shit happens. Love them in the past for sure tho

  • @XGLDF

    This is actually not bad at all considering his stage presence.
    And as somebody else mentioned, check out Adrian Smith isolated from Rock in Rio, it's on RUclips. It ain't much better. You gotta realize how it is to play live folks, specially when moving around as much as Janick does.

    When Janick first joined Maiden, I was skeptical of his style because I was so used to Murray/Smith but when I started to play guitar, I realized how good he was. Even after 25+ years of playing, I'd love to play lead as loosely as he does. He's does wonderful improvisation and never plays the same thing twice. That is what keeps guitar playing, and music in general, fresh. Hate on him if you want, it's up to you, but if I wanted to hear it note for note, I'd listen to the original recordings. Peace y'all.

The most part of the acoustics are made by him and the pasion and energy in lives are always welcome! Since always he makes me smile and I have so much respect and admiration!

    maiden always had 3 guitars in studio, Janick being kept around when Adrian Smith came back allowed them to play the songs live as they was always intended, Rock in Rio 3 is my favourite gig they ever done and ive seen them live in England, gers added and still does add a lot to the bands overall sound, the whole point in three guitarists is to add to the harmony and janick does this well, stop nit picking and listen to the music, Adrian and Dave also make small mistakes throughout songs, as do most famous guitarists they just hide it well or its close enough your mind ignores it, and that isd even if this is actually him, if you can play as well as this while doing all the on stage stuff these guys do, moving around, jumping, and keeping up and timing yourself with an entire band then you can judge....most can't so don't judge.

    A lot of zealous fans here, wow. I've been a fan of Maiden since the late 80's, know all the albums, and seen them live at least 12 times that I can recall. Fucking great songs and even better live presence. But even as a long-time fan, I can't deny their playing is usually pretty sloppy all across the board. Noticed it many times, certainly compared to some other metal bands who sound super tight even live. There is no need to freak out over people noticing this, it's just a fact. Still a great band.

    I don't get it. half of the kids who post guitar video on youtube are much better and more talented than this guy. I am a Maiden fan and a guitar teacher; some of my students can play a better version of Fear of the Dark with their eyes closed. I still can't understand how the fuck this guy can be the 3rd guitarist of Iron Maiden. Take Ritchie Faulkner or Roy Z for instance: These guy CAN play. They are no Yngwie but they are really a good players.... and good songwriters too.. and they are hardcore Maiden fans and would fit into the band perfectly. This is exactly the type of players that Harris should have recruited instead of Jannick Jerk.

    His song (music) writing contributions to the band (Ghost of Nav, Dance of Death, Talisman, Legacy, etc ) are priceless and amazing and he adds a ton of live energy to the band. His live solo playing is technically below average, but he still manages to produce inspirational moments in some of the songs in which he solos, e.g., Paschendale, Brave New World, Talisman, Red and the Black, etc. In the end, Maiden would not have been as interesting, fresh, energetic, and versatile had they given him the hook when Adrian returned. That said, if I had to choose one, there is no question whatsoever that I’d choose AD over Gers in a heart beat. AD is the most important guitar in Maiden. DM is the most recognizable guitar and JG is the reckless guitar.

    There's no bung notes, apart from the note just before his solo where he bends it slightly too sharp. Apart from that the playing is OK for a live performance, playing rock shows are not like playing in an orchestra where you have the music right in front of you and you are sitting down and you have a conductor. Nah, playing live in a rock bands not easy, you have to know everything off by heart, you have to play to other band members in the same boat as you, you have to play to the crowd, you have to look like your 100% into it every night. Its not as easy as it looks

They really need to sit down and figure out some of the syncopations and different rhythms in the melodies and so on, especially when it comes to the old songs which maybe Adrian and Janick learned simply by listening on CD.

    • @realrxn
      @realrxn 5 лет назад +8

      Well, firstly the sound quality will always be extremely poor due to the process of isolating the track without having access to original multitrack recordings. Secondly, you have a very good point. A lot of people here complain about his live playing being sloppy. But if the band as a whole sounds rock solid, is it really sloppy?

    Not hating here this is utterly dreadful, it reminds me of myself at 15. I don't expect note for note album stuff, but I expect it to be good all the same. I saw Iron Maiden on their Fear of the Dark tour after seeing the original line up on the Seventh Son tour and I just thought he was dreadful. He dropped his guitar several times, was very sloppy and I found the sound unbearable. It was the last time I saw Maiden live. On recent clips I've seen you can hardly hear Dave Murray's solos and all you can hear is his sloppy rhythm churning away. He may write good songs and nail it in the studio, but live he is just terrible.

    • @Vmt16

      I'd say you can talk when you're playing in front of a stadium full of people.

    • @mutley365
      @mutley365 7 лет назад

      So playing in a stadium means you can play like shit? Not played in a stadium but I've played live gigs, one a festival in front of thousands of bikers. It's about being professional and delivering the goods. He's done enough gigs, he has no excuse and I doubt nerves has anything to do with it.

    • @Vmt16
      @Vmt16 7 лет назад

      mutley365 He doesn't just stand around. You say ONE festival and I guarantee you weren't as good during that show as you are when you're just playing alone.
      To me he sounds fine here, sounds like what this song has always sounded like when he's playing it. And the thing is that since the 80s, people have thought that he's good enough to play in bands so I doubt that he's shit.
      You go to one of their shows and you tell me that you think that one of them sounds like shit. And if you have been to their shows and you were like "Yeah, sounds like shit" then what the fuck were you doing there in the first place?

    • @mutley365
      @mutley365 7 лет назад +1

      Vmt16 Right, I've made fuck ups during gigs, we all do, but I make sure I'm playing as well as I can. If he sounds good to you then that's your opinion and if you're OK with it then that's fine, I am not OK with it and that's my opinion. I saw Iron Maiden on their seventh son tour and was a huge Iron Maiden fan and they were great. A few years later I had the opportunity to see them in Brussels on the fear of the dark tour and although I wasn't as big a fan, I still wanted to see how they were live with Janick Gers. I got to the front and I was so disappointed I walked to the back of the arena and sat down. So yeah I went to a show because I wasn't expecting it to be shit based on previous experience. Surely you've gone to see a film and then realised it was shit? Well why did you go and see the film? Do you see your logic there? How do you know it's shit unless you go and watch it? At least I actually went to see them with a previous positive experience, so was expecting a good show, unfortunately it wasn't, I lost count how many times he dropped his damn guitar and made an, "oops" gesture. He's fine on an album, just very sloppy live.

    • @Vmt16
      @Vmt16 7 лет назад

      mutley365 Its a part of his personality to be energetic. I've read that especially on the No Prayer tour he was clearly nervous about how fans would receive him so he kind of overplayed it. From what I've heard off of live recordings, Janick played just fine on the Fear tour.
      And you say you saw them on the Seventh tour and then again on the fear tour? I mean it sounds like you went in thinking that Janick was going to sounds exactly like Adrian. It sounds like you were expecting that the band hadn't changed at all despite the fact that No Prayer and Fear are much less complex as albums compared to Seventh Son and also the fact that they really scaled down their liveshow in the early 90s because they kept getting more elaborate in the late 80s and Harris just said that enough is enough.
      He's just fine live. I've seen Maiden live 5 times and not once did I stop during the show and think "Oh crap, Janick sounds like shit".
      I've been to shows where it was clear that someone sounded like shit or that the sound was fucked. For example, there was a clear difference between how Slayer sounded with Hanneman and with Holt. And then this one time when I saw them live, I couldn't even properly hear Holt's guitar because the live mix sucked ass and it his guitar was mixed incorrectly. I know what it feels like but you also have to accept that there's a sound that you want and then there's the sound that's actually there. Either accept it or move on.

      He's an awesome player and a good songwriter. This is a RUclips track, the sound quality is shit by itself and the tone can not be judged. If it was live, you wouldn't hear the sloppy playing. Yes, it is sloppy, but not horrible in any means. He has a lot of stage presence and jumps and hops more than Adrian and Dave. I don't get why people hate him so much. He didn't destroy the band and had lots of good moments and generally is a nice person.

When he played this there was the crowd vibe, the vibe of the whole group together and the adaptation to everything results to this because it sounds fucking amazing in the overall. People talking shit here will never do a better job because of how shitty their way of thinking is. It's a band, not a single performance but 6 of them and every member has to bring something good which he certainely does. All of that AND he jumped around throwing his guitar like a fucking madman. Yes, lost 5 minutes of my life writing this, now wot.

    This is interesting to me, cause of all the times I've seen him with Maiden, I could swear there's times he's not in the mix. He runs around a lot and does all his goofy routines. There's no way the FOH engineer has him in there for some of it. This is my thoughts, objectively. A lot of people hate on him, but I don't mind him (aside from the prancing). He's a great player, and the third guitar really compliments the songs... Thoughts anyone?

  • @realrxn
    @realrxn 5 лет назад +1

    A lot of commenters here have obviously never played rock or metal live on stage before, or at least not in any successful capacity. The whole point of a show is to entertain your audience. If you do not entertain your audience, you have failed by default, however perfectly you play. Of course, many modern rock bands cheat left and right, and use click tracks, backing tracks, autotuners, in order to play perfect live - and still they can't make as good a show as Maiden can. Maiden are old school, true rockers. They do not cheat. What they play is what you get. And if you've never been to a Maiden show (which I suspect many of the complainers have not), belive me - what you get is better than most other bands these days. Yes, they vary in tempo, they don't always play things the same way, they make little mistakes. But it doesn't matter because the combined end result grooves like a mdfkr and they'r all over the stage with an amazing energy level - every fking night. I once saw a show where Alice Cooper and his band played first, the Maiden right after. Alice is no beginner, and he had a crew of younger, top-of-the-line session musicians. His show was really good, belive me. And then Maiden came on stage and blew him away completely - they're just on another level of energy and showmanship. I like to compare them to Queen in their early-to-mid 80s heyday for stage presence and energy level. Do you then care if Jannick hits a note slightly off or Nicko misses a beat? Do you even notice? No, you bloody well don't - because they're all in sync, it grooves like nobody's business, and you're all over the place waving your arms and headbanging.

    I guess when you have 4 guitarists you can get away with sloppy playing because they will all blend together and form a sort of natural chorus effect. I've gone to some of maiden's concerts and I always thought they had a very oversaturated sound, it's even hard to make out the note's in the solos because those guys push so much delay/reverb/wetness. Bruce's vocals definitely cut through the mix and carry the songs though.
