Holy smokes! How generous of Steve and Jane to give you this spectacular train ride. And this was so well photographed! The lighting at the river scenes was perfect! A magical fun adventure video!
Catherine, I have said it before and I will say it again: your videography, photography and narration skills are outstanding! Your videos never disappoint. Thank you for taking us along another spectacular journey!
I was born and raised in Colorado and retired to Oklahoma. Seeing your video brought back so many memories as my family use to spend all summer camping in the mountains of Colorado growing up. Beautiful video thank you Cat!❤
Oh my goodness Cat! 😮 Yes.... that was AWESOME!!! That trip on the train 🚂 was spectacular. Thanks Steve and Jane for taking our Cat on that stunning ride in San Juan Mountains! The beautiful fall 🍂🍁 colors are so pretty, and your photography of capturing all that beauty is so professionally gorgeous! I just love riding on trains 🚃 and this trip is one I'd love to take. So it will be on my bucket list of things to do for sure. What beautiful country, and history to see and experience. The quaint little town of Silverton is so charming! The food looked good and delicious! The river flowing by the side of your train ride was so awesome. 👍 What a beautiful lovely trip...thank you Cat for this spectacular video of Silverton Colorado with the San Juan Mountains! How very blessed are you! You're the best, until the next adventure... take care and happy trails my friend! Choo choo 🚂 😄
For another perspective of the area, I would recommend taking the bus back to Durango via the San Juan Scenic Byway 'Hwy 550'...and it's only an hour drive time. It is also very scenic and at times will parallel this same railway line. And if you're ever in Silverton again, continue north on the Million Dollar Highway to Ouray or 'The Switzerland of America' for more stunning Colorado scenery. Thanks for the rail ride and travel on !!
Thank You for Sharing this Totally Awesome Train Ride and Gorgeous Scenery!! This is one to add to my bucket list for sure. Stay Safe, keep posting and I'll keep watching 🙏👍
Now you need to ride the rest of the line, the Cumbres & Toltec from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO. The two used to be connected until a dam project severed it. Excellent video! May Almighty God continue to Bless, Guard, Guide and Protect you in your adventures. 73!
Awesome how Jane and Steve gave you this wonderful adventure aboard the steam train! I've ridden trains but never through such spectacular scenery. What a treat! 🚂🚃🚃🚃
Forgot to mention : We (my wife and I ) took the Cumbres & Toltec ride a few years ago … can’t wait to do the ride you just did ! (Still loving that hat! LOL). Isn’t life great! So much to see and experience. Your videos are always amazing!
I used to take the train for work, as I was a wilderness ranger in the Weminuche Wilderness. Many backpackers use the train to get right into the backcountry. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed in the gorge in the jump scene. There are three 14ers in the wilderness. There are two passes to get into Silverton, one from the north and one south. Occasionally, in winter, both passes get closed off by snow.
I cannot thank you enough for this video! You show me so much and since I don't get out much, your videos have even more meaning for me!. I live in CO now, and maybe I will get to Silverton. I have heard of the train, but never thought much about it. But wow, you really showed me the beauty of it all. Thanks again, and your photography skills are absolutely over the top!!!
WOW! Great video !! Just missed you. We took the train from Silverton to Durango last week having taken the shuttle bus up to Silverton. A MUST DO in Silverton is to visit the Historic Museum. It was world class. Can easily spend two hours visiting the museum alone.
Sweet!! I've been on the narrow gage White Pass train between Whitehouse, Yukon and Scagway, Alaska. Thrilling, a tad scary, and extremely scenic. There, I've planted that seed for ya, Cat! 👍😎🇨🇦 P.S. many Coloradan miners then headed north to B.C's Kootenay Mountains and created another Silverton and the town of New Denver!
What a fun adventure! The San Juans are so gorgeous. They may be my favorites in CO. Long ago a friend and I did a camping road trip through CO. Rather than do the long round trip on the train, we took a jeep road (in my Jeep of course) that runs along the river above the train. It wasn't difficult and had all the wonderful scenery. You might want to try it sometime if it's still open! Thanks for your excellent video work as always.
I took that ride 2 months ago. I have that same shot of the opening scene. That ride is worth every penny! Open air gondola is the way to go if the weather cooperates!
Another great video. That train ride was epic especially because it was steam. Love the hat and I hope you get to see a couple and maybe have them over for dinner. Thanks for sharing all your adventures with us.
Thanks Cat beautiful videography and commentary. Durango to Silverton is a special adventure. We’ve visited it a couple times. It’s one of our favorites. Gods blessings!
That was fantastic,Catherine! I’d rather ride a train than an airplane. Scenery was just incredible and you do such a great job of capturing it. You gave us a great tour of Silverton as well. Thank you so much for taking us along. ❤️❤️
This is a favorite area of mine. Only been through there twice, once via the train and again a few years ago by car. Rugged beauty and fascinating history of hearty people who lived there in the past. Thanks for taking us along.
Hi cat & joey, amazing as always, colorado is incredible spent time in fairplay. The train ride is a defenite must see, great old minning town. Be safe well done.
OOOHHHHH! This is right up my alley ! You get to see it all. The landscape, the old town buildings, and even a good storm! The sound of the steam train is just priceless! What a fantastic day :-) Thank you Catherine.
WOW!! Now that was an adventure. I can't say enough thank you's for this video. Absolutely magnificent. Silverton is indescribable to say the least. that will fill my dreams for quite a while. Just one more Thank You, until next time, God Bless, be safe.
What a beautiful train ride n scenery . We went on one n my it was beautiful but not Colorado beautiful! Loved the town n history . The food looked amazing! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more adventures ahead !
My wife and I volunteer at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown, Ca. ( think Back to the Future 3) Trains are fun but I wouldn’t get all “Steamed up” about them!🚂🤦🏼♂️🥴🤣🤣 Get it? Steam-train. Those shots of Silverton blew me away!🌨️💨🤦🏼♂️🧐😎 Love your channel Cat!👍
I have been on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge RR many times in the 54 years I have lived here. Never gets tiring. I am so happy i got to enjoy my Colorado before the prices went way up , and it got so overcrowded. Great Video .. the scenery never changes.
We just rewatched your Utah’s snow adventure We loved it we’re from western Texas we hardly see any snow but watching that again gives us hope for this winter 😮😅😊 stay safe 🙏🏻
You are helping me so much Cat❤ thank you.. I look forward to your videos. So much like what I'm doing now on my own youtube channel but instead of cooking I'm painting 🖼 can't wait to get out more to share with my audience 🎉
I'm so glad that you finally have seen a portion of Colorado next to Durango and Silverton. As a native of Coloradoan, my early job was as a laborer for the Diesel shop in Denver for DRGW back in 1973, went through an electrical apprenticeship, and during that time I also attended courses at Metro State College for mathematics and programing where I was able to get a programming job with DRGW. Then they merged becoming Southern Pacific and then later merged with Union Pacific. Now retied since 2004. During the Rio Grande era, they allowed electricians and mechanics as needed to ride locomotives up over the divide (in the Moffat Tunnel) to trouble-shoot problems. One time they had to shut down the mainline so I could crawl under a locomotive and change out brushes that had blown off the pig tails of the DC traction motor which was causing that engine to kick ground relay faults thus loosing that one locomotive. They needed that to make it up towards the divide. Well to make a long story short, I've had some amazing train rides. But I promise I will have to do the Durango to Silverton trip and also the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
This video was spectular. Thanks for taking us along. I would have loved the train ride. When my friend and i traveled many years ago, we always took a train ride if one was available. We mostly traveled through the Smokey Mts and Blue Ridge mts. Although they were beautiful nothing can compare with the Rockies. Unfortunately we never got that far west. Although we did hike in the Painted Hills outside of Las Vegas. The Rockies were on our bucket list, but alas we never got there. Now you are taking us along. Thanks so much.😊😊😊😊
Thank you Catherine! You are so inspiring to many. My dad found you and I am so thankful he shared you with me. My dad was physically disabled for years, previous to that loved hiking & many other outdoor sports. He "hiked" with you when his legs could no longer take him where he wanted to go. I miss him so much, but appreciate you every week. Thank you!
Love those mountain river train rides to those Old West historic towns. We have done a few other similar train rides such as the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, AZ, all the way into the Grand Canyon National Park. That is a fantastic ride but not as picturesque as Silverton, CO, that you showcased imho. There are other cool train rides in Felton, CA near Santa Cruz, CA and in Yosemite, CA, that we've also enjoyed. Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through your videos as always!
Indeed a spectacular beautiful video.. I’ve ridden this train 3 times. The second time we got off at elk park and backpacked in the Weimenuche wilderness, a trip that I know you and Joey would love, if the train still stops at elk park.
I lived in Grand Junction, & visited Silverton a few times. I always feel at home in Colorado. I live in Arizona now. Thank you so much for a beautiful video. It made my heart sing ❤
Hi Cat, Thank you for taking us with you on this gorgeous Silverton - Durango Narrow Gauge train. Your beautiful cinematography skills are the next best thing to being there! I enjoyed your tour and commentary on the history of Silverton. Thank you for sharing this, Catherine! I've looked at this adventure for several years but don't know anyone who has done it so I didn't put the $ or time into it. I reckon you just added to my bucket list. Stunning views. Thanks again and as always be safe, have fun, and we'll see you in the next video!
What a super video! Beautiful scenery, nicely shot and edited, soothing music perfect for the setting, great information and excellent narration. Wife and I rode the train 20 years ago and loved it. Thanks for the memories! P.S. You sure picked a winner for your first-ever train ride.🙂
Beautiful scenery! There are many narrow Guage RRs around the country that offer scenic rides. Hello from Ouray, Catherine! Welcome back to the San Juan Mountains. Thank you for bringing us along on this experience!
I grew up listening to m,y Dad talk about his Durango/Silverton connection. Thank you Cat..the ride was wonderful.
Made the Silverton train ride once 1972 ,when I was 11, amazing ride..
Now you need to ride the rest of the line, the Cumbres & Toltec from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO. The two used to be connected until a dam project severed it. Excellent video! May Almighty God continue to Bless, Guard, Guide and Protect you in your adventures. 73!
Did the Cumbe/Toltec, wow! what a beautiful ride! Glad to know these two use to be one!
Beautiful mountains and the Fall colors. Wow! Silverton is definitely on my bucket list!
