I absolutely loved this hike, the bush that we started in was so beautiful, and at almost any time you could wander off and find a spectacular view just off the trail. You and I both love exploring off the main trails, and the rewards can be astounding! This hike is very underrated in my opinion. As far as I know this is still the only way into Observation Point. Thanks for checking this out David!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going in September and saw that the weeping rock trail was closed, so I'm relieved that there is another seemingly better route to get to observation point!!
You are most welcome! It is a wonderful option to hike this path, and the view at Observation Point is absolutely stunning! It has become more popular no doubt, but if you are there early you can likely enjoy the whole experience without seeing too many other hikers. All the best, I hope you love the experience!
Wow my friend what a beautiful area. Looks like a nice hike for sure. I take it you made it back ok on the low gas. 😊 Like the matching shirts too. Nice touch.
Hi Andrea, from what I understand there is no real danger of wildlife on that trail or anywhere in Zion for that matter. As long as you respect the environment and don't leave any trash or leftover food behind, and do not offer food to any animal you may encounter, you won't have any issues.
@@AndieeGrl 😂 I hear you! Thankfully it is not a very difficult hike, it only has some slight changes in elevation. But yes the heights are crazy! I hope you can do the hike and enjoy it to the fullest 👍
@@hannahmilner2671 I imagine it would be fine, but I would contact Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, they are located along the drive to the East Mesa Trail. I think they would be able to tell you the conditions of the trail and the rough road leading back to it.
We were about 5-6 hours total, but we were definitely taking it easy and spent lots of time at Observation Point. I apologize but I can't tell you off hand how many miles it was, I would guess around 8 miles or so. Hope this helps 👍
I was looking to see this one from the ground. I saw it on a map and it seemed like a good alternative to the other ways up there that are open. Thanks for sharing.
My buddy and I are wanting to do a backpacking trip that includes this trail on New Years. Obviously there would be snow and ice, we are experienced backpackers and Eagle Scouts. Thoughts?
The only difficulty would be finding your way if the trail is covered in snow. There were no markers on trees when we were there. Watch for openings in the tress to indicate the right direction. Once you get closer to Observation Point you leave the bush and it opens up, you may have to look around more carefully to keep on the trail at that point. I'm sure the view would be amazing in the snow and worth the effort!
Hey so I really want to go to Observation Point and saw that East Mesa Trails was one of the few trails that can get there. Was it hard to navigate to get to east Mesa trails and were there any fees to park there?
Hey there, it was free to park there at the time of our trip (which was in 2019 if I remember correctly) and it was pretty straight forward to find the trailhead. Hope you can enjoy it for yourself soon!
Hi just want to know is there any entrance fee/ticket or parking fee to hike to Observation Point from East Mesa Trail? I’m planning to go visit Zion NP, since its a last minute plan the shuttle passes are sold out. So I’m planning to just hike Observation Point.
Hi there Katrina! When we did this hike there were no fees. Access and parking were both free. We had a National Parks Pass that we kept with us, but we never needed to show it to anyone. I would advise you to purchase a day pass from the Zion gate on your way to the hike, since technically once you hike into the park from the East Mesa Trail, it would be required to have a pass. I hope you enjoy the beautiful hike and the amazing views!
I’m doing this trail on Sunday! I can’t wait. Thanks for sharing!
Right on have a good time 👍
Thanks for the the information
Awesome video
Thanks Simon👍
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Some pretty amazing views 🤩 What a great experience, good stuff Pete!
Thanks David! It was an awesome experience to hike down there, especially before the world went nuts and we could still travel. Cheers brother! 🍻
@@LatitudesWildernessFilms Ahh, the good ol’ days 😉🍻
Absolutely fabulous loved it 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Thanks Christine!
Nothing wrong with a closed trail if it gives you smaller crowds. 😄 Always like them side trails too. What a great lookout!

Views are absolutely breathtaking!! What a gorgeous day for a hike!!
It was for sure, that day is a fond memory of ours!
Curious, how long did it take you.
From what I remember, the hike in took about 2 hours after we got parked.

Another epic video, great job guys! Nothing like hearing wild raptor calls soaring above the top of Observation Point in Zion National Park Utah. 👍
Thanks so much! Yes it was such an amazing experience!
Those were some spectacular views! You guys had an awesome trip👍
We absolutely did!

Haha thank you so much! Yes thankfully we didn't get stranded but it was a close one!
Is their any danger with wildlife on that trail? Or in Zion in general??

@@LatitudesWildernessFilms So glad to hear this! 😅 it will be hard alone dealing with the heights and me being out of shape. 🥵

wow such beautiful views!! how long did the hike take you guys there and back?
We did the hike in 4-5 hours round trip, and that includes hanging out at Observation Point for awhile. Not bad at all! Thanks for the comment!
Ontario Fishing Quest good to know thanks!! do you know if this trail is open in January? I can’t find anything on the national parks website...

Ontario Fishing Quest great, thanks!!
great video! how far was the hike from where you had to park to the 'designated' parking area/trailhead?
how many hours u guys hike from where u park the car? And how many miles start from where u guys park to observation point? Thank you so much
