    Of course that is an ideal surface.
    I wonder how it would do in my area in the desert a lot of rocks everywhere

      I think it would likely bounce like crazy. If you want a decent road there's no shortcuts; at minimum though - a Rotary Rock Crusher like FAE or Seppi has would create gravel with what's there, then pack and then use a maintainer like the one in the video.

    You blurred out the part where the "spike" went over the pot-holes. Thank you. It only took me 1:22 seconds to decide to NOT buy one of these,.

    What about a video on a compacted gravel road?

    • @Hoelscherinc
      @Hoelscherinc  6 лет назад +4

      As with any gravel maintenance, you will want moisture in the material . All the roads in the video were regularly driven gravel roads. Moisture will loosen the material to let the spikes dig to the desired depth but more importantly, moisture is needed to bond the fines with the aggregate to create a better driving surface.

    I’d love to see how it works across surfaces that consist mainly of coarse roadbase with only a skim coat of top gravel.

    • @01mustang05
      @01mustang05 3 года назад

      If road base is too coarse it likely wouldn't go well, so you're not likely going to see anyone showing bad results, especially by a manufacturer.

    @hoelscher Inc Do you think the SPIKE would work well at breaking up ice on a gravel road?

    • @01mustang05
      @01mustang05 3 года назад

      I think it would just scrape the top of the ice in that case.

    Are you kidding?
    Road graders are ineffective at maintaining roads and finish work?
    If you have a grader hand that can't give you a better finished road surface than that sand scraper you're selling, fire him and get an operator that knows how to run his equipment.
    I found the part where you were claiming that a grader leaves windrows to be particularly funny. When the narration was saying that, the video showed your scraper leaving windrows.

    Although I do believe a piece of equipment like this can definitely be beneficial and serve a purpose, it is laughable that you think this would replace a maintainer. Simply put this would be a great tool to have on a private driveway off of the main road. But if you think this will replace a motor grader having to come down your lane every once in awhile to give you a level surface you will be sorely mistaken. You can even see in this video we're claims to cut out the washboard and pot holes that it leaves a wavy finish. Simply put all that is doing is dragging more material out of those spots, which overtime is going to create a larger and larger depression in the road bed. There's a laundry list of other problems that I can see just by watching this video. It's simply not going to replace a motor grader, it's not even going to be a good option depending on the price because you were going to have to replace a ton of time by your blade man to offset the price of this piece of machinery. Plus we also have to factor in the cost of the tractor pulling it. I think this would be a great tool to use privately on your own driveway and from time to time have the blade man swing in and shape the road back to a crown, level out the waves it leaves, and actually cut out the ruts and washboards. Also, if you tell your blade man not to he can bleed your road and not leave a windrow. The windrow of gravel is used for cutting and mixing.

    • @Hoelscherinc
      @Hoelscherinc  5 лет назад +2

      I would like to thank you for watching the video. We do not believe that this is a replacement for a straight blade motor grader. Both SPIKE and a straight blade motor grader have their strengths and that is discussed towards the beginning of the video. A motor grader would still be needed to create and shape the roads and ditches. When it comes to regular maintenance, SPIKE does it better, faster, and more cost efficient. It is designed to be used in high moisture conditions (shortly after a rain). The moisture in the ground allows the spikes to get to the bottom of the problem areas (corrugations, ruts, pot holes, etc.) and reset the profile of the road. Most places that in charge of road maintenance already own a tractor big enough to pull SPIKE (60+ hp), so this has not been an issue for us. If you would like to come and see SPIKE in action, we would be more than willing to demo the product for you. SPIKE is unlike any other road maintainer on the market today, so i can see how some might be skeptical. However, the unit does a great job and is very easy to operate.

      IMO nothing is equal to a grader with a skilled operator. However the cost of a grader is far too high for this application. This equipment comes at a far lower cost, little operator skill is needed and is faster. I often drag my driveway with an old box spring that I burned the cover off. Cost is nearly zero and does a passable job. Hoelscher makes a decent solution for "non professionals" it seems.
