How can we get soil? Do you make your own mix? You said multi purpose potting mix won’t work for long term, correct?

Hi there, can I ask your advice on livingstone daisy please? We sowed absolutely tonnes of the burgers this year but even now not one has flowered and the stalks are getting so thick n solid and long!? Never had this issue before but its with every one there's about 10 pot's of them there all doing the same thing growing there stalks n foliage but not even got a bud on them! I'm not sure if I should try splitting some up as a test incase there all fuesed to the same root system now being in pot's in bundles but it's never caused this before and just the normal way of planting them on! Maybe a bad batch of seeds but very doubtful.

Hi Scottish Bonsai, isn’t nature great, does something one year and another the next!! When I have grown them in the past I have split the seedlings when they are really small but this isn’t necessary to get them to flower. I know they like poor soil, if they are growing in something with lots of nutrients they may just grow leaves and stem, the lack of food will encourage them to flower as they think they are on the way out so start flowering to produce seeds for the next generation. Also full sun is something that they enjoy so lack of light may be a factor. Or, maybe it is something to do with the seeds. This is the thing with propagation, it’s not an exact science, there is so much we don’t know. If I was you I’d just treat them as you normally do and see what happens, you may get a late flush of flowers 🌸🌼🌺. Sorry not to be of any more help, wishing you some late flowers, all the best Robbie 🌻

@@stinkyditchnursery750 yeah I've been a horticulturist for near 7 year's got my degree in horticultural landscape and design believe it or not nothing is never the same! I have lupins that never died off completely last year I think with the sycamore tree outside when leaves fell off it it completely covered a good few of plant's, and must have kept them warm and protected them through the winter and all that bad snow we had here in Scotland for the first time in 10 year's! There a good 8 foot just now! I love lupins and snap dragons! My Rhododendron flowered the first time this year since got it about 4 years ago it's big enough now it's stunning and my hydrangea has a flower head on ever branch tip this year! Very happy to see that as only had 2 flower heads last year!same with my Japanese dwarf cherry's and my azaleas everything has just doubled it's energy or something this year, I've never seen them as nice and with as much growth! I need to prune my acer today and some cherrys, Elms, chestnut trees, yews, my Native Hornbeam has just went crazy with growth and it's had a prune already this year but I'll need to do it again today! The energy must have been good for it shooting back down tonthe roots when it was pruned earlier this year! I'm more a Tree specialist myself.

@@Emtbtoday have you read “The hidden life of trees”?. I forget the name of the author, a German forester. He is not a scientist himself but has collected all the cutting edge stuff and put it in a book. Botanists are now observing trees communicating, feeding each other, planning together, even showing what can only be described as “affection”! It’s a fascinating read, a walk in the woods is never quite the same again 🌳 wishing you Livingston daisies in late summer, all the best Robbie 🌻
