    Full Video on my RUclips channel 🔥
    THE PUMP DRILL :
    You don’t need fire to make a pump drill as you don’t have to boil the Willow cordage. You can just use the Willow straight off the branch and twist it up. You can choose to boil it in ash water (lye solution) to give the cordage greater longevity and flexibility. I choose to do this as it was a bushcraft project around camp and not a survival situation or a quick job. I made the pump drill and tested that it worked and will use it for starting future fire around camp 🌿
    PUMP DRILL
    Buddleia (Butterfly Bush)
    River Rock Counterweight -
    (Flint to Bore Hole) with Oak Wedge
    Willow Cordage (Wood Ash Lye Solution) - 3 Ply Twisted Braid
    Willow Handle
    Sycamore Fire Board
    Tinder - Usnea (Old mans beard)
    Hazel Shavings
    Ember Extender - Cramp Ball Fungus (Daldinia Concentrica) 🔥

      @@TheRealRomansThirteen thank you for the nice comment. If you read my pinned comment you’ll see that you don’t need fire to process willow cordage. I did this as a project and not a survival situation. Hope you get out there practicing soon friend 👍🏻🔥

      I get the flywheel. And the cordage and the pump handle. But I don't see how the up and down motion gets the stick and flywheel to spin. Wish you had shown the mechanics of that.

    • @crystalm4324
      @crystalm4324 Год назад +3

      I got everything but htf you were able to drill a hole in the rock 😱. I LOVE rocks - but I couldn’t tell you what a piece of ‘flint’ looks like compared to a half a dozen other stones. I’d straight up be guessing. I didn’t realize it was so strong - sharp obviously - but strong enough to drill through another stone that’s not specifically pumice or sandstone?
      I need to spend a day on a pile of rocks with you - at least.

    Step 1: Make fire with a lighter to boil the bark.
    Step 2: Make another fire the hard way to get the satisfaction of making a fire.
    Nice 👍

    • @NaturallyPrimitive
      @NaturallyPrimitive  Год назад +75

      Thanks 👍🏻 except it wasn’t a lighter, it’s was amadou tinder fungus and a ferro rod for a quick start. Plus you don’t need fire to make a pump drill as stated in my pinned comment as you dont need to boil the willow bark and process it….you can just use it straight off the branch. Your 💯 right about the satisfaction, now I get to start multiple fires around camp with the pump drill which is fun to use and very satisfying …..like our ancestors done it hundreds of years ago 🙌🏻🌿🔥

    • @NaturallyPrimitive
      @NaturallyPrimitive  Год назад +9

      Thanks bro. Yea 💯. I take the outer bark for cordage, use the inner wood as a guide to cut the cordage and then use that wood guide for the pump drill handle. Just try to use as much from the willow as I can
