  • The Etsumi-Nan Line (越美南線 Etsumi Nansen, "Etsumi South Line") is a railway line in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, operated by the third-sector operator Nagaragawa Railway (長良川鉄道 Nagaragawa Tetsudō). The line connects Mino-Ōta Station in Minokamo with Hokunō Station in Gujō. It is the only railway line operated by the Nagaragawa Railway. The line was originally operated by Japanese National Railways (JNR). JNR planned to connect the Etsumi-Nan Line and Etsumi-Hoku Line ("Etsumi North Line"), but the plan was never realized. The north line was later succeeded by West Japan Railway Company (JR West), while the south line was taken by Nagaragawa Railway, a newly founded third-sector company, in 1986. As the company name suggests, the line runs along Nagara River. As a consequence of Japan's declining population and frequent natural disasters (such as typhoons and heavy snowfall), the company is facing financial difficulties.

    Beautiful trip through towns and countryside along the river. Great cabview ride. As someone who lives in the United States, this gives me some understanding of living in Japan. Domo arigato.

      Japan is a country in decline, its GDP has been the same for 30 years while its population is aging, all the little towns are hollowing out as young people move to the big cities like Tokyo and Osaka

    無理な話ですがね、本来なら、越美北線の九頭竜湖駅と長良川鉄道を繋げて、岐阜〜福井に鉄道🚃で往き来出来るようにして欲しかったですね…

    Liked the video. I'm curious though. Where in Japan is this line located? I find it interesting to find and follow the line on google maps as well.

    Was Japan having a drought when this was shot? The grass looks stressed and the river looks low.

    • @Mac_Omegaly
      @Mac_Omegaly 4 года назад

      I have never been to these locations, but given the little run off ditches and the color of the grass and such, I would say this is after the rainy season.
      If you have ever seen rivers in the foothills of Pennsylvania, they tend to run low and wide. They flood and carry a lot of rocks along in the current when heavy rain falls. And given Japan's frequent hurricanes/Typhoons every year, the normal flow of the river looks low compared to the large bed it carves out.

    Will cut a switch at 1:38:30 that so unusual for Japan because of 101% safety levels.

    • @roboftherock
      @roboftherock 5 лет назад

      I assumed that that turnout was of the 'spring loaded trailing' type. By that it is inferred that the switch is normally set for one directon, but the weight of the train moving in the opposite direction will overcome the pressure of the holding spring. But I might be wrong. I noted that this railway has no physical connection to any other. That's unusual nowadays. (Google translation - その盛り上がりは「春の尾を引いた」タイプのものだったと私は推測しました。 これにより、スイッチは通常1つのダイレクトロンに対して設定されると推定されるが、逆方向に移動する列車の重量は保持ばねの圧力に打ち勝つ。 しかし、私は間違っているかもしれません。 私は、この鉄道には物理的な接続がないことに気づいた。 今日は珍しいことです。)

      Since this is described as a sightseeing train, I imagine she's some sort of tour guide. I wish I knew what she was saying about some of these places.

      Barret Hansen Sure, whatever... I generally don't enjoy tour guides, feeling that the experience is diluted by random, often dubious facts. Whenever possible I'll avoid them, just be present in the moment and ask my questions to locals, the internet or travelers guidebooks. But to each his own. This woman, however, just has an annoyingly vibe about her imo.
