The unified font browser is definite need to have. I am glad it is being addressed in this release. The filter preview will definitely give me more ease and freedom to explore what the other filters do. Thanks for the update.
2:22 It's nice to see there's an actual browser for fonts now, but I had a work-around for this in v1.3 by clicking the text element, typing "t", then clicking on the font in the upper left tool bar and using up and down arrows to preview different fonts in my design. Glad you covered the new stuff in Inkscape 1.4 beta. The filter manager really brings out the beauty of the hidden filter system.
I am solely grateful and thankful to everyone behind Inkscape for such a great work thus far and this new beta release... I am loving it. Thanks Nicks for the quick reviews of what we will be getting in this Inkscape version 1.4
Finally, useful font selection again! Before Inkscape had the current font selector, it had one without a font preview, but in which you could just click and then use arrow keys to change the text to another font to immediately see what your text looked like. That they deprecated that one has been my main pain point for years now and I'm glad we're finally getting one with preview *and* cursor key navigation. Also, shoutout for the League of Movable Type fonts. :D
WOW... I am a pure hobbyist. Learning any new software take time, something I have very little of at most. So that new grid and text stuff is great news for me. Thank you so much, best wishes.
I have been playing around with 1.4 this is so awesome. I cannot wait to see what else this does. thanks, Nick I actually got both versions in but I like the new on so so much better.
Ever since Adobe killed Macromedia Freehand (back in the distant past) I've been a loyal Inkscape user. It simply keeps improving and has become quite a beast.
FreeHand was LIGHTYEARS ahead of Illustrator. I was heartbroken to see it go. I only just recently tried Inkscape because I'm being asked to teach a free alternative to Illustrator. I wasn't really looking forward to it, but BOY...am I impressed! My only complaint was things like the anemic font system and the filters that I was gonna have to look through one by one in 1.3. This solves my problem. I hope this version is reasonably stable so I can show it off to my students.
@@gmlaster Agreed! It never made sense to me that Adobe killed off the better product. I even ran Illustrator on Linux using Wine for a time until I mastered Inkscape. I think the modern Inkscape now comes up to scratch with Inkscape. Good to hear you are introducing your students to Open Source software. They need to know there are other viable options to the increasingly restrictive commercial software.
Once the full new version is out, I will definitely get it just for the font option. I usually open up my font settings on my computer and search through the fonts there to find what I wanted, then go back to Inkscape and select the exact one I wanted.
Hi guys, thank you for your work! I have a video/topic idea(s) (and you can do a survey with the community)! Video idea(s): - how to customize inkscape - how to make it look like adobe illustrator, affinity designer - how to create your own theme (icon sets, colors etc..) - best inkscape themes - saving your custom UI Thanks again and Keep Up The Good Work!
Thanks Nick. Inkscape is really moving ahead. Thanks for helping keep me up to speed. It would be handy if one could print multiple pages/artboards from within Inkscape (rather than save as pdf and printing), and if course no CYMK must still be disappointing you.
The filter gallery should live preview the effects when you click/focus on a filter, and then make it fixed to the object when you hit apply-exactly how the unified font browser applies to text.
The font improvement is going to be a game changer for sure! Also, text on path is a bit of a problem for me. I can put text on a path, but if I want to invert the text, I can’t seem to do so. (I.e. putting text around a circular path, but inverting the text at the bottom to be legible in one orientation) I keep learning more with Inkscape, as I too use it for logos, as well as some illustrations.
Thanks for the video. Good improvements, now it's time to test. In my case I have found that the text spacing tool closes every time you press enter, which is not right. I don't know if it happens only to me, but I have already reported it.
Thank you, your videos are always interesting and well done! I ask a perhaps silly question: is there a way to manage variable fonts? Maybe it's me who doesn't know the system to do it... but if it didn't exist it would be very nice for it to exist!!!
Thanks for the update. I do like the update to the font browser. Is there a way to create custom groups of fonts? For example, if I have about ten favorite fonts, I could create a favorites group. If I wanted futuristic fonts, I could create a group called that. And so on and so forth.
посмотрите квк устроено перемещение или редактирование элементов в архикаде: там все построено на входе в режим редактировании и на выходе из него. тогда удобно задавать направление или расстояние без дополнительных напряжений
It would be great if they modernized the ruler and the way of accessing extensions, of measuring curves. The text that appears on the ruler with the object information makes it very difficult to measure small pieces. It would be nice to have the option to deactivate that feature whenever we want.
Hopefully they have (or will soon) solve the issue (bug?) in Inkscape where not all weights and styles of an installed font family are available from the dropdown menu.
It would be so useful if they have added the “real time alignment and distribution” such as in PowerPoint and adobe illustrator, where it gives you a hint that objects are already aligned or not.
@@Alex-gw6pm I can't submit links into other people's video comments (stupid youtube), but you should search for "Alignment and Distribution snapping" the inkscape wiki, release notes or youtube videos.
Yeah, you are right guys. Thank you alot, I'm just new user of inkscape, I didn't know that there are advanced options for snapping😬 now inkscape is my favorite 😁
Glad you like a new features. But there are not many other features planed for this release. This year was in spirit of migration of backend stuff for gtk4 that should hopefully should happen next year
Hope to have a "Simplified" feature to reduce the number of nodes just like Illustrator. I do a lot of objects union, intersection, different, break apart. That increases the number of nodes in my final product and I find it hard to clean up the nodes in Inkscape.
Nick, have you got any videos on bevel filters or indeed any other Inkscape effects that would be suitable for a logo involving a tiling mosaic ? I have looked through the existing filters but the only thing near this tile edge effect is the Filters > Bevels > Raised Ridge . . . But this has the "grout" sticking up instead of lying below the level of the tiles as it is in reality. It also makes the overall logo a bit dimmer and fuzzier, as if the view was through a dull glass. Any ideas are welcome and I love your videos 🐬
Thank for update, I love the new option functions of Shape Builder Tool, but hope that in the future it will be able to easy trim path (open shape) like in Illustrator or Designer.
Thank you for the update I am excited to work with it, I immediately downloaded this version but I'm unable to import or see a preview from my folders to complete a design. Can you assist me with this issue? Thank you!
I love Inkscape and use it pretty much every day-both for work and personal. Switched from Affinity years ago when I realized Affinity was stagnant, and Inkscape has only got better!
Love inkscape so much❤. thanks to people who is dedicated their time for this amazing tool.peace from indonesia Southeast asian
The new font function will save so many lives.
The unified font browser is definite need to have. I am glad it is being addressed in this release. The filter preview will definitely give me more ease and freedom to explore what the other filters do. Thanks for the update.
Yeah using fonts in Inkspace is quite the challenge. These improvements look a pretty big step forward
Thanks for the update and will be glad if CMYK is incorporated for easy printing
The color refactoring is on the way. It is an important step to get CMYK implemented. So it's slowly taking shape!
@@softwarelivre2389👏👏👏
By now you can export to PDF and import to Scribus and export to CMYK
Would be awesome if there is finally cymk support in inkscape for printing.

Neat, I can't wait to test the final stable version. Go team Inkscape ^_^
This update seems really nice! Hope we can have native CMYK now 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It's being worked on by Martin and will probably either ship on 1.5 or be very close to it and end up launching in 1.6!
Things are coming along beautifully!
Loving the font browser! Thanks for the heads up!

Great stuff coming to Inkscape.
The new filters and font browser look great.
