      Couldn't agree more, it's stunning. I was worried that it would be to similar to my 38mm Hamilton Khaki, but in reality it's quite different.
      I'll compare them in the full review

      @Marcus Maximus Do you have an opinion on the hamilton khaki pilot pioneer? I've been weighting it against the mellor 72, though these smiths are really tugging on my heartstrings.

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад

      I'm a big Hamilton fan and i love my 38mm Khaki auto.
      If I'm thinking of the right watch it has faux aged lume, which I'm not a fan of, but I'd love to see one in the flesh.
      Thanks for watching and commenting

    • @zach9414
      @zach9414 4 года назад

      @Marcus Maximus Awesome. Thank you! The more I've been mulling it over, the more I'm drawn back to the Melor anyway-- I really dislike faux lume, but it was mostly the power reserve and WR that attracted me to the Hamilton. I already own (and love) a CWC g10, and find the acrylic to be really charming. I remain a bit concerned about WR, but I think your point about the movement is a very, very good one, and one that I'm largely ignorant about, so I really appreciate the detailed response. I'll probably follow up on this comment in a few weeks with what I've actually decided (or, perhaps, if I've decided to go with the PRS-29) in a few weeks. Thanks again!

    I remember in the day, Smiths were a cheap everyman watch. What can no longer be obtained gets to somehow be revered. Albeit, with some changes.

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад +1

      For sure, but the w10 being the last watch fully produced in the UK has made that watch highly desirable and the rest of the brand with it. These modern versions white not made by the original company, offer a lot of the original feel. Not everyone will love the re issues, but I appreciate the aesthetic without the vintage pitfalls

    Nice trifecta, looking forward to the Expedition review! I'm considering it for the next time TF opens up in August and I'm really on the fence. Not many small watches with a nice solid bracelet and good WR in the price range...actually this is the only one I've found! Not counting the Traska Summitteer and the Lorier Falcon which would cost me too much in VAT and customs.

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, Expedition review is coming. Works been really busy the last couple of weeks so i just haven't had time, but it's coming soon!
      You are right, there's not much out there in this unfashionable size.
      I'm over the moon with all 3 of these. The Expedition has some very pleasing differences to the 2 manual winders.
      I had one of the first Lorier Neptune's and while it was a good watch it was a couple of steps behind these in terms of finish/quality. I haven't seen any of their newer releases so they may have upped their game, but ultimately i feel like the Time Factors watches offer a better value proposition.
      Thanks for watching and commenting

      @@WTMS1 thanks for the reply, good to hear you're pleased with them! This would be my last purchase for 2020 after a collection purge and I want to make it count, and as an everyday versatile piece the Expedition seems fantastic, nothing about it looks banal.

    If you were to choose - PRS-29 vs PRS-48, which one would be your choice?

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  3 года назад +1

      It's tough to answer that one, i own the 29, so that would probably be my answer, but the 48 is a lovely looking watch, and i like the case better than the 29. Sellita vs ETA movement is another consideration if that matters to you, but it shouldn't, the Sellita is a great movement.
      PRS-29 is currently out of stock and it might be a while before they come back. So, if i were purchasing today I'd get the 48 and no doubt be extremely happy with it

    May I ask your opinion in terms of case finishing among the 3? Are they same or is 1 better than the other 2?

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  3 года назад

      I prefer the polished case of the expedition. It feels a bit better executed than the brushing of the other two. There is very little to fault on the brushed cases, but they are a degree behind the expedition in terms of 'feel'
      I will go into this in more detail in a forthcoming 4 way comparison

    Store opens for 5 minutes at a time? What kind of nonsense is that? It takes me 10 minutes to fill in the order, login to VISA or PayPal and pay something. Especially with modern day two-factor authentication/confirmation such as SMS.

    • @WTMS1
      @WTMS1  4 года назад

      It's not easy, but it's doable. There is no paypal option. Eddie closes the store when he has taken as many orders as he can fill before the next opening. Add something to your cart to see when the next opening is.

    Smiths watches are nothing more than a watch made 100% in china with chinese generic parts. This is what you are buying if you go ahead.
    Why a Rolex homage? because the chinese have been making rolex copies for decades - there is plenty of factories producing them and it is easy and cheaper to assemble a watch using cases and bracelets that are a plain copy of a rolex.
    What are you getting extra from Smiths that justify the extra payment in opposition to the Rolex copies/hommages available at Aliexpress/ebay/alibaba for less than 100usd? Very little, but in summary the next:
    - Packaging: Smiths delivers the watch in an extremely cheap packaging - u can appreciate this in the video
    - Quality of the case and bracelet: the same as the ones sold at Aliexpress for less than 100usd.
    - Watch glass: Smiths offers sapphire but the ones from Aliexpress too - no improvement here.
    - Movement: Smiths offers a Miyota 9015 movement (btw a good movement), the ones at Aliexpress tend to offer the next options Miyota 8215, Seiko NH36, seagull ST16 or a generic chinese 2813 (The last one being the worst option - but is also fitted into the very cheapest watches, at around 50usd).
    - Dial and hands: Smiths comes with a simple printed dial - this is the cheapest way to produce a dial - and very generic rolex hands. Some of the other chinese copies come with dials with applied markers - this is more expensive yet those watches are sold for far less than Smiths.
    - Customer service: Chinese sellers are not known for providing a good customer service, but here is the key, Aliexpress intercedes between you and the seller and if you have a complain or receive a damage/defective product... you are likely to receive a full or partial refund. In the case of Smiths watches.... you just need to check out this video and will understand the type of person behind Smiths and what he delivers as a "customer service". ruclips.net/video/UfN4TLjsXPg/видео.html&lc=Ugw3F88zhYe8PNzz2Oh4AaABAg.9I09Cu91HeE9I3ejLKxCVy
    The last topic is brand heritage: Once a brand becomes abandoned by the owners - and this was the case of Smiths watches... Anybody can register and own the name by registering it again to himself --- this is the case of Smiths and many other brands (Ball watches, etc...). Timefactors has been importing batches of chinese watches and re-selling them to european customers since 1996... At some point the guy owning Timefactors realized he could re-register abandoned historical brands and he has done it several times... check Timefactors offerings, he not only offers Smiths but also other less known historical brands he has registered again---- the difference between the different brands he sells? only the brand logo he is requesting the chinese manufacturer to print on the dial. ----------- MAKE up your mind if you consider this kind of "heritage" deserves any additional value or payment.
