Yeah, kinda. Double bosses are a unique fight form factor that can make for memorable encounters, but there are unique pitfalls to avoid that can depend on what type of double boss you're trying to make. Let's go over some!

One cool thing about double bosses is when they do combination attacks that utilize their unique attributes. Master Hand and Crazy Hand are a good example with many of their attacks making use of the fact that they're just hands: they rub against each other to create static electricity and form a dog-shaped shadow puppet among other things.

The Twins in Terraria is an interesting double boss where not only are they both modified versions of a previous boss, but they fill different roles and it punishes you for not focusing down one of them by making them both really difficult if they are both on phase 2 at the same time. Sort of like the reverse of the DMC boss fight in the video.

The thing about Terraria is that a lot of the weapons are AoE, too, so if you're not landing your shots on the twin you want to take down, you're going to have to deal with both of their powered-up versions or dedicate your attacks to the other target so you don't have double-trouble.

The final encounter with Galeem and Dharkon in Smash Ultimate is a really unique take on this concept. Little surprise from the series that's been perfecting the mechanics of a double boss fight since Melee, thanks to the Hands.
The two kaiju-sized bosses aren't really fighting you at all - they're mortal enemies fighting EACH OTHER, with the Smash fighters in the way as collateral damage. Any time you put one in a vulnerable state, you need to punish quickly and then back off, as the other one will be pushing for a devastating follow-up as well. And their attacks have been carefully designed, thanks to the sheer size difference, to be tough but fair; any possible combination is avoidable with the correct screen placement and dodge timing.
Accordingly with the lore, focusing on defeating one first will make the battle much harder, as the remaining one no longer has the distraction of its foe and can focus all its most devastating attacks on you. The entire fight thus becomes about carefully managing both of their health bars, so you can defeat both Light and Dark in as quick succession as possible and restore balance.

What's cool about that fight is that not only do they attack each other when they are vulnerable, but all their attacks hurt each other. Another really important angle on the Ornstein & Smough fight is the implications it has for the rest of your run. You'll only have access to the weapon and armor set of the one you killed last, and each has its own uses depending on your character build. Choosing one permanently locks the other, so the choice isn't just about how you want the fight to go, but potentially your entire playthrough.

If we're talking Triple Bosses, the Elite Trio from Mario and Luigi: Dream Team is a great example. They each have their own function in the fight (healing each other, calling in hoards of smaller enemies, mixing up other attacks, ect), as well as teaming up together in interesting ways. It creates a really interesting dynamic where you can't focus down one, and have to account for each member in your strategy. It's also one of the most difficult fights in the whole series, especially because, in order to win, you have to take out all 3 of them at the same time. I still think one of the coolest themes for a double boss is the Mario and Luigi memory boss fight in Bowser's Inside Story, where you have to fight Bowser's memory of the brothers AS Mario and Luigi, where the memories exhibit basic traits of a player character, like sometimes fucking up action commands or reviving the other brother if they go down. Yeah, The Twins from Terraria should definitely not go unnoticed. These two play around really well with the attacks that each of them have, utilize each other's advantages and try to protect each other from their disadvantages. Retinazer prefers to stay far away and blast you with its laser whilst Spazmatism forces you to constantly stay on your toes and never slow down. Plus the fact that each of them have two phases really make them stick out even further than they already do. Honestly, the Don't Starve Together remake ''The Twins of Terror'' really doesn't do them much justice. Their mere existence is enough of a godsend already, but the boss(es) had an insane amount of potential and I'm sad that the developers didn't play that much around with the source material they had. The twins in terraria are like this if you consider the Eye of Cthulhu to be fighting the individuals prior.
The first half of the twins fight uses the same basic charge attack as the eye but faster, and 1 eye stays directly over you and the other stays on your y level. The original eye has a second phase at half health where it summons minions (and in expert modes gains a jump scare dash attack), but the twins have a different set of second halves. The eye that is above you gains a laser minigun and starts raining laser bullets on you. The eye that matches your height gains a flamethrower that inflicts a more powerful fire debuff and basically never turns off, it is not recommended to split damage on your first attempt to kill them with a character because the second phases deal way more damage and are constantly pinser attacking you with ranged damage.
Admittedly basically every terraria boss is delt with by evading its attacks because tanking the damage is unrealistic.

Small correction on that last bit - you *do* want to damage both twins at once, if possible, up to a point.
Most attacks have AoE, so it's a good idea wear both down to the 60-70% range, then finish off spazmatism (as it's pretty much universally agreed to be the more threatening of the two, even with spazmatism in phase 1 and retinazer in phase 2) without putting retinazer into its second phase. Doing it like that saves time as AoE attacks don't generally lose damage if you hit multiple things with it at once, which makes the fight easier (as they get less attacks off due to dying faster) and can even be crucial to killing them in time (as they flee at sunrise).
Of course, that's assuming you *can* do that. In either Expert mode or with the Calamity mod (I forget which, sorry), you *can't* kill either until both are in phase 2. You'll still want to get spasmatism as low as possible before switching to retinazer, though.
It's a very good example of the fight being more of a breeze after one part goes down. Retinazer can still kill you, so you can't let your guard down, but the fight becomes substantially easier.

I think Sisters of Battle is one of the best bossfights in any game I've ever played. It's not too difficult to the point where you don't feel like trying it again, but it's hard enough to the point where you feel good beating it. Not to mention the fast paced combat in this bossfight makes you feel like a god. Couple that with the sound track and it's easily one of the best bossfights ever.
Edit: Same thing with Theseus and Asterius, good sound track + fast paced combat makes for a high adrenaline bossfight. During runs I try and center my builds around that bossfight. I find it even harder than the Hades bossfight. There's just barely any breathing room.

I'd say the same thing about Ribby and Croaks from Cuphead, and they were briefly onscreen in the video. Sure, there are two of them, but they share a single health bar (not that you can see it without modding the game). They effectively are one boss with a disjointed hitbox. In the first phase, they're standing right next to each other and effectively have a single large hitbox anyway. In the final phase, they literally combine into one boss. The fact that they share health alone would be enough to make it feel less like a double boss fight, and in two of the three phases, the don't even have disjointed hitboxes.

I think it's a shame that Kirby footage was used multiple times as examples of lazy double bosses (especially considering those were all midbosses), so I'd like to bring up an excellent Kirby double boss: Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright, who appear in both Kirby's Adventure (and its remake) and Kirby's Dream Land 2.
Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright take the form of a miniature moon and sun respectively, and their battle consists of the two swapping roles repeatedly-at any given time one of the two is on the ground jumping around and rolling into Kirby, while the other makes ranged attacks from above while invulnerable. Since they alternate invulnerability like this, the player can't focus on one of them at a time.
While Mr. Shine is in the sky, he moves from left to right while periodically shooting beams straight down, forcing Kirby to keep moving. While Mr. Bright is in the sky, star projectiles rain down at random angles, forcing Kirby to watch the top of the screen so he can dodge in time.
This means that the player has to simultaneously avoid the melee attacks of the grounded boss while trying to damage it, and while also avoiding projectiles from above. Then the bosses switch places and you do the same thing with a different attack pattern. This is especially fun if you do it without a copy ability, as you'll need to inhale the flying boss' projectiles to spit at the grounded boss.
Even when one of the two is defeated, the battle doesn't get easier; it just stays in the surviving boss' phase for the rest of the fight, the defeated boss continuing to do its projectile attacks.
Oh, and in the Dream Land 2 version, there's another attack-the two move next to each other, and Mr. Shine performs a screen nuke attack. The player needs to move so that Mr. Bright is between Kirby and Mr. Shine, as Mr. Bright creates a solar eclipse that stops the damage wave in that direction.

The first superboss from Persona 5 is one of my favorite double bosses (minor spoilers below)
The battle mechanics of Persona 5 focus on your party working together. Hit an enemy's weakness and you get another turn, which you can baton pass to give that turn to an ally, powering them up. Knock down all enemies and the whole party teams up to do an all-out attack.
The fight with the twins flips that idea on its head by making you realize that your enemies can actually do this too. They will baton pass to eachother, and they can even do an all-out attack to instantly make your party lose if everyone is downed (which they will also do if you aren't dealing enough damage)

Yeah that was a super fun boss. It turns the mechanics you've been mastering for well over 100 hours against you *while* nerfing them for you because the twins don't have any weaknesses, so the only ways to down them are with crits or technical damage, and they resist the physical (and I think gun as well) skills that are most commonly used to do that. On top of that I also believe they have a hidden resistance to Almighty (the second super boss in the third semester does so they might have it as well) so you can't cheese them with Morning Star or Megidolaon so easily for a free win.

I think the "Faux Double Boss Fight" is at least worth a mention here. Essentially the tag-team element of the Nier example you gave can be applied to a boss fight but without the swift swaps. It's easy to see why; That shift in what mechanic you're dealing with means you need to change tactics to match, but you're still only fighting one boss at any time and the other is just a threat, not a real entity. Probably the best example I can think of off the top is the twin sharks in FFXIV, but I think a decent number of beat-em-ups did this here and there.

XIV has a true double boss - the clone style - in the final boss(es) of Stone Vigil Hard, and better yet it demonstrates exactly what this video talks about. They designed it differently from all other boss fights, with no autoattacks and every attack from both dragons including huge tells - It's possibly the only fight in the whole game where you can take 0 damage from an enemy you can't kill in one hit. FFXIV has done a few boss fights like that. Off the top of my head, I can think of Lahabrea and Igeyorhm's fight in the Aetherochemical Research Facility and the fight against Annia and Julia in Ghimlyt Dark. Both bosses have you fighting one of the pair up close while the other one fires out attacks from a safe distance, and they swap when the close-up boss gets low. Additionally, they really hate each other, so when one gets knocked down, the other starts to wind up for a massive damage potshot. This potshot has a big hitbox that can nail you too if you're too close, but you can get good value out of it if you pour as much damage into the downed boss as you can and back off just before the other one strikes.

An interesting double boss fight are the Glyphid Dreadnought Twins from Deep Rock Galactic. They both follow the classic duo for Ranged and Melee. But what's really cool is that when one of them loses too much health, then the other splits their health so that they are equal. This is both dangerous and beneficial for the dwarves as it gives them time to heal and reload as they bosses are healing as well.

in Octopath Traveler one of the prologue bosses is Mikk and Makk, a pair of pirates who are the bosses of Tressa's route. Their fight stood out to me as my staple double boss experience, as while they both had similar functions, they also toyed with Octopath's "Breaking" system. Sometimes one of them will guard the other, taking damage in their stead, so targeting the one they're guarding is impossible until the one who's guarding gets broken (if Mikk is guarding Makk, you can't target Makk until Mikk is broken, and vice versa). Since both of them have different weaknesses, you have to juggle your plans for how to break their guards, and plan ahead to see whether one gets broken before the other, and react accordingly.

Margit, the 1st boss is a great example of this. How he based on RNG will follow up on his recovery with dagger slashes that can't be reacted to, or his 2 sword slash that ends with with a cane slam. My idea of the concept is:
    Share health bosses should
1-not have one of them way easier to hit than the other
2- consider if hitting them both would do double damage(considering their attacks and how much time are they next to each other)
And what separate health bosses should consider
1-are they going to have equal health (if not clones)
2-do I want the choice of Wich one to take out first to be effecting for the player(if yes do I want to make a pair of bosses with no clear answer or do I want him to take a specific one first or do I want to make him balance out the damage, why, and how)

One is fat, tanky, has ranged attacks, and fire, while the other is thin, fast, has mostly short range attacks, and ice. It has been called the Ornstein and Smough fight for a good reason. They exist in both the main quest and a side dungeon. Only when you fight them in a side dungeon and defeat one, the other will gain the fire/ice power and moveset. Would Monster Hunter's Seltas and Seltas Queen count? I mean, the first is basically a general mook at the point when the queen is found and mainly gets in the way, but with the queen in play, she releases pheromones to attract the male into a drone-like state to come to her. Then, after pinching him with her claws, gives it a bit of a neuro juice as she sets him up on his back before the two fight as one: The queen being the tank treds and the servant the cannon. When working as one, how you handle it becomes a different threat and MUCH more dangerous, such as the Seltas using its wings to pull the queen out of Pitfall Traps or giving cover fire from afar as the queen relies on melee. Sure, you can break up the mount and even kill the Seltas, leaving the queen to be alone, but its only a window before a new Seltas comes in to take the old one's place, placing the queen as the main priority to finishing the hunt.

I've been saying this since Elden Ring dropped. Ornstein and Smough is a fantastic example of the gank fight handeled well.
One's fast, has ranged attacks, but he doesn't deal a lot of damage (Ornstein will still f you up don't get me wrong, but he doesn't have a big one-shot hit other than his grab.) and he's relatively squishy.
Smough is slow, has no ranged attacks, but he hits like a truck and has more health, so you're encouraged to fight Ornstein.
You're also rewarded for focusing one over the other, because this ends the gank. Their movesets are unique, and compliment each other, but they also have individual weaknesses the player can exploit. The arena is large enough that you can split them up, and use the pillars to kite them.
Now compare this to Godskin duo. Noble and Apostle both have incredibly quick attacks that deal a lot of damage, cover a ton of distance, both have the same ranged attack, both have an individual second phase, have a linked health bar and constantly respawn so you're not rewarded for focusing one whatsoever, and while the pillars are still a thing, the arena isn't really big enough, and when the pillars are destroyed a lot of attacks will sail right over them.
Instead of a fun fight against strong enemies that compliment each other but have weaknesses, you're stuck in a room with two enemies that essentially have no weaknesses other than sleep.
Another factor to mention, if you're struggling with O and S you can summon Solaire. He's tanky, does great damage, has ranged attacks of his own, and gives you a ton of breathing room.
Duo gives you Bernal. He's a really tanky motherfucker, but that doesn't matter when the duo spam attacks that do % damage based on max health, he does almost no damage at all, and summoning him makes the duo even tankier.

As the name suggests, there are 3 different enemies to take down but as you're focusing on one and they go down, one of the other 2 revive them while leaving the one that didn't revive them to still be able to attack. The enemy then says too much, basically telling you that the only way to defeat them is to KO them all simultaneously. This is a bit difficult because there are no health bars to track your progress so you don't know who to switch between damaging and when. What's even better about this fight is that they're supposed to be goofy comic-relief characters, so you wouldn't expect them to be so smart and coordinated.

The "sniper" twin, Retinazer, likes to stay above your character and fire deadly lasers with... decent accuracy. They each have their own health bar, and when you get one low enough, it turns into it's second phase. In Spaz's second phase, it gains a powerful flamethrower-type attack, and his charges are more like the Eye of Cthulhu's in Expert mode. For Retinazer, its lasers get faster, and it fires in bursts more often. When you're about to beat the second boss, the first boss comes back in and you have to survive a onslaught of both attack patterns from both fights combined in a timed second phase.

The Bravely Default series does multi-bosses really well. The very first boss of Bravely Default, Barras and Holly, complement each other perfectly; Barras hits your team hard and has way more HP, and Holly buffs her team’s defences and heals while occasionally taking a potshot at you. If you go after Barras first, you drag the fight out longer due to his greater HP pool, but if you take out Holly first, Barras goes berserk on you and hits even harder.
Bravely Default also mixes them up by shuffling their formations around. You get to see different aspects of each Asterisk wielder and how their move sets (and personalities) play off each other. My favourite instance of this occurs toward the end of the first game, where you can choose to run a gauntlet of every single Asterisk wielder you’ve previously encountered, in teams of 3 and 4 based on really wacky themes:
One of the really memorable ones has Chairman Profiteur, the Merchant, use his infinite money to buy BP for his team (a resource normally accumulated over time) so they can afford to spam their most powerful BP-hungry moves. A similar battle later has Praline, the Performer, constantly generating BP for her team while they throw a relentless stream of weaker, but annoying attacks your way.
Another one has a team of magic users who use Reflect on themselves, and then cast magic on their own team so it is reflected off all 4 of them and whatever poor bastard it hits on your team takes 4x the damage.
Another one has the 3 best defenders in the game pitted against you in a war of attrition. Heinkel the Knight protects his team from attacks, Kikyo the Ninja dodges attacks and hits your team with attacks that always move first, Kamiizumi the Samurai counters each time he is hit, and Holly the White Mage returns as the team’s healer for that extra longevity (although a programming error makes her only use the lowest tier healing spell which makes her quite pathetic as a healer this late in the game).

It works because Gaol being the second boss isn't that hard, but since the refight against both of them is one of the last bosses in the game, by that point you have the skill to balance fighting both.

Deep Rock Galactic's Arbalest and Lacerator dreadnought twins is a great double boss. The Arbalest shoots fireballs from afar while the Lacerator tries to stomp you into bits. You have to damage them evenly or they both regenerate and when you kill one the other gets more powerful.

I only just now realized how many double bosses are in Ultrakill…
    -The first encounter with Cerberus
-The secret double swordsmachine fight against “Agony” and “Tundra”
-The secret double Sysiphian Insurrectionist fight against “Angry” and “Rude”
-The double Hideous Mass encounter at the end of *Cry for the Weeper* (yes I’m counting this because there’s two health bars)
-And the fight against the security system in the last level of Layer 7
There’s a lot worth noting with most of these. With the exception of the security system, all of these bosses are enemies that, while first introduced as a boss encounter, become utilized later by the game as more or less common enemies.
With the Cerberus in particular, there are two special details: whenever there is more than one Cerberus in a fight, the remaining Cerberus becomes enraged as soon as one of them dies; also, it’s entirely possible to trick a Cerberus into accidentally killing the other, and even killing itself by just ballin too hard.
Meanwhile, both of those secret boss fights are references to Agni and Rudra from DMC 3, with the gimmick that when one dies, the player has about 10 seconds to finish off the other or else the first one automatically comes back with about 1/5 of its health.

In Absolver, there's a boss fight usually referred to by players as "the twins fight" against a pair of bosses named Cargal and Kilnor. They are stated to be brother and sister, but "twins" is just a term from the players, not something in the game's lore. There are several fighting styles which define a character's combat stances and defensive ability, but the attack strings they can perform are able to be customised separately from this. The twins have different defensive abilities and stances, as well as different movesets. One has a moveset focused on mid-speed attacks with a few faster and lighter moves and a few heavier hits mixed in. The other is more focused on heavy attacks with a few medium speed hits mixed in.
They each leave different openings and have different patterns to be aware of if you're going to counterattack and break their attack chains. You'll often have one being aggressive while the other backs away and turtles up if you try and pressure them. There are multiple ways to manipulate their behaviours or work with their behaviours to manage the fight. They each get a mid-fight powerup which works basically the same, and has the same trigger conditions, but there's a selection of different potential triggers for the powerup which can potentially affect each of them differently. Getting one of them really low on health while the other is almost unhurt triggers only that character's mid-fight powerup. Getting both below a higher threshold value gets both to enter into the powered up state. And defeating one of them causes the other's threshold value to raise up even higher still, usually triggering the powerup state immediately.

Have you done a video on how to do good backtracking? Games like the GC Resident Evil remake where old areas had new enemies, or Metroid Prime where the mobility upgrades really help keep old areas from going stale.

It's absolutely essential in Metroidvanias, since backtracking is part of the core experience.

One particular double boss fight I remember is the Twins bossfight from Terraria. At first glance, it doesn't feel all that special, just two floating eyeballs which are more beefed up versions of a previous bossfight, but there are some key choices which make the fight memorable for me:
    > The fact that they're always linked together makes it so the bosses stick to one another, Terraria being a sandbox game would allow you to abuse the sandbox style and lure them away otherwise.
    > The link between them is even more emphasized on considering each of their specialties, one of the eyes shoots fast lasers capable of hitting you from far away, the other slow moving fireballs that are dangerous up close
    >After they hit a certain HP threshold, they both turn fully mechanical and gain massive defense bonuses and even harder to dodge attacks. The lasers are faster and there's a barrage of them every few seconds, while the fireballs turn into a close range flamethrower attack after the eye tries to charge you in melee range, limiting your abilities to create distance between the bosses and yourself, even though you even have access to flight gear by that point.
Given the flow of the bossfight, it's no surprise that focusing one is the right strategy, however, it's easier said than done especially once one of them hits the threshold. Attacks get hectic and you start struggling to aim correctly, simply firing in the bosses general direction most of the time. Given that they gain a defense boost as they each hit the HP threshold, it means that simply firing at their location will usually proc the second threshold change, rather than letting you finish off the one who's lower. After that, good luck, because you're in for a beating.

In Enter the Gungeon, the twin bullets are a pair of brothers, in which the only different attack they possess from each other, is their shoot type, the good bullet has rapid fire, while the bad bullet has spread, the difficulty around this battle is that both bosses will try to get to you and trap you while spreading bullets towards your direction, and when you're in between the brothers, you run the risk of getting hit, and when one of the brothers die, the last one standing will pull off a rage move and move at you faster while increasing the bullet hell. However the one that takes the cake are the 4 statues which are all tied, they bounce at your direction and smash the ground to send bullets at your direction, the thing is that when you destroy one, they regenerate and restart the pattern, and when there's only one statue standing, it will just jump at your direction while leaving bullet hell. it's a pretty complicated battle because with every bounce they spawn various bullets from the bottom, and of course, they go to your direction, you can get almost trapped in this battle.

Personally one of my favorite double boss is the king dedede and meta knight from kirby fighters 2. Specifically the moon warriors refight at the end. Taking from their star Allies fights while also adding tons of combo attacks (also it has banger music but that’s par for the course with kirby games)
