    Thats an awesome machine. I know its only 6 inches of snow but you can tell that machine will move alot of snow. I used to have a Honda 1332 track drive & it would move alot of snow & throw it far but I don't think it would do it as fast as this machine. Thanks for the video Paul. Can't wait to see one of these in some deeper snow.

    Hi Paul
    Really like watching your videos. I like you describe each machine and test each one.Really like when you tell the good and bad about each brand. I have a 30" platinum. I was surprised when you said you live in Chippewa Falls.I live in Black River Falls....which is not that far from you. Most videos I've seen on here are from the east coast. Good job!

    The one thing I wish they'd do on snowblowers is to have opional handle bars. My old Noma 28" has bars like a push mower with two slap handles. The blower is 25 years old and they still work perfect. Unfortunately it currently needs a new bearing after last year. Thinking of purchasing the Ariens 28" Proffesional like the one your demonstrating. Think it'll last 25 years : )

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  5 лет назад +1

      I've owned a few Noma's and Craftsman with that handle style and I hated them myself. My hands always cramped up using them. The only one worse in my book is the controls on the blue SnowJoe 2-stage snow blowers.

      @@PaulSikkemaActually the one I liked the best was on our old BOB CAT. The auger, and the drive were done by flip/lock handles. No holding nothing but the bars, and it left either hand to run the shoot. That's probably illegal by todays standards : ) The thing was a literal beast with chains, and for a 5hp motor would eat absolutely anything LOL! Shoot the thing was close to 1/4" thick steel on the auger housing. We sold it after 25 years of trouble free use, and it was still running last I knew.

      Paul I just purchased the 926078 hydro rapidtrak Proffesional. This unit says it has the 420cc Ariens AX motor. The dealer told me the Polar Force was no longer available? Have you heard anything on the Ariens AX motor in comparison?

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  5 лет назад +1

      The Briggs engine has been around for a long time and has a great reputation. But it carries a separate warranty so if there is a warranty problem the dealer has to get approval from Briggs for the repair. There is also separate paperwork they need to do to get paid. The Ariens AX engine, on the other hand, is warrantied by Ariens directly. There is less hassle and paperwork for the dealer. (Most companies have gone to their own engines. Toro, Ariens, Honda, Husqvarna, Briggs, and MTD all have their own engines now) This allows them to design engines for specific applications and also simplify the warranty process if there is a problem.
      The Ariens AX engine on the 926078 is a pro-grade engine and designed for years of use

      Thanks Paul! They will be delivering it this week. This will be my first track model. For my driveway this blower is by far larger then I need, but the plow really buries me in bad. My old wheeled version did the job, but it was hard keeping the front end down. I hope this track setup will help me in that area. Thanks for your reply by the way, and I enjoyed your video : )

    Hey Paul, thanks for the very informative video! I liked how you showed how fast it could go in the forward direction. It looks like it will make quick work of long runs! The most frustrating issue with my current blower is how slow it moves in reverse. I do not use reverse because of this and I end up dragging it. However, this is problematic when on ice. I am wondering if reverse is fast enough on this machine, or if I would end up dragging it too. I am considering a tractor to keep from slipping/falling on ice. I am wondering what you think. Thanks!

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  5 лет назад

      The reverse in this hydro is faster than the gear drive models.
      Good, outdoor boots with deep treads or the ice spike that clip on your shoes work well.

      The Platinum RapidTrak is a great choice for a homeowner. it has plenty of power and will clear just as deep and as heavy/wet of snow as the Pro model. The Pro just does it faster....

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  7 лет назад +5

      Hi Tony, If you are not having traction problems with the Deluxe 28 I don't see a need to upgrade to the RapidTrak. If you had deep, hard-packed drifts to go through or a sidewalk the city snow plow dumps a foot or more of snow on then the RapidTrak will work the best. If you are just "itching" for a new snow blower look at the Deluxe 28 SHO or the Deluxe 30 EFI.

    Hi Paul I am getting the 28 inch pro but fighting if I want the 32 any thoughts is the 28 a bit easier to handle

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  4 года назад

      Unless you have large open areas, like parking lots, I always suggest a 28 over a 32 or larger. 28 inch machines are easier to handle, can go more places, and this one with the 420cc engine will have more power than you ever need.
      A 28 inch will clear an 8 foot driveway in two round trips. A 32 inch will clear 9 feet in two round trips. So the only time a 32 will really start to save you time is if you are clearing a 20 feet or larger parking area.

      Tough question. I'm still partial to the RapidTrak's grandad - the Gravely Professional 16 two wheel tractor with a 34" Snow Cannon SnowBlower. But it was a very hard machine to use. ruclips.net/video/LTNmlIKILis/видео.html
      I'd also love to own a Gravely Pro-QXT with the 32 inch snowblower but that one is over $9000 ruclips.net/video/WkF0tE50l6s/видео.html
      Both of those machines I can use year-round because the snow blower is an attachment.
      That said, I have at least a dozen new snowblowers sitting around all the time and the one I always grab to do my own work is the RapidTrak. It's so easy to use, fast and will handle any snow. It doesn't matter if it's light and fluffy, a snow plow drift or just plain slush - it does the job quickly and easily.

    You didn't reply to my comment. About the dimensions of the pulley, the impeller.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  3 года назад

      I don't have those dimensions. If you are building one yourself the dimensions of this pulley are irrelevant. But-You want the impeller to rotate at 1000 RPM when the engine you are using is at full RPM. You can figure the size you need from that information.

    Hi Paul, thanks for posting this video. Have you used the blower in heavy wet snow yet? I might buy a new blower for next winter and was trying to decide if a 3-stage would be best. We don't get wet snow up here often but when we do closer to fall and spring (temps in high 20s), my current 2-stage is almost useless. This Ariens looks to throw snow out much further than mine though.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  5 лет назад +1

      3 stage is not better than 2 stage - it’s just different. Everyone has their own “best feature” for example Ariens has the SHO impeller, Toro has the Anti-Clogging System, etc. I know Cub Cadet has plenty of the 3X snow blowers out but I just can’t say they are any better in all conditions. If they were the perfect answer the new Troy-Bilt Arctic Storm and Craftsman Pro would have it also. So, Where you live, I’d stay away from them. That said,
      This Ariens Rapitrak Pro (and the Ariens Platinum or Ariens Deluxe series) won't clog on heavy wet snow. They have a larger 14 inch impeller and a huge discharge - meaning the wet snow won't build up in the chute and clog it. Yes, this one will throw snow up to 55 feet!

    Hi Paul, I've asked you questions about this machine before. I liked to ask you how does the auto turn work with the tracks. Does it turn like a wheel unit? I mean does a person have to trip the lever to turn the machine around? I'm very interested in this machine. I have not seen this machine in person. This last winter everyone was sold out. My dealer here told me they are making a limited number of rapid track models this year with the Briggs motor. His thinking is they are probably phasing the Briggs motor out. He told me LCT is making there own version of the 420 cc motor. He got a email from the factory and he was telling me. So I would have order one with a Briggs now to get it next fall. Have you heard about this?
    Jeff

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  5 лет назад

      Hi Jeff, The RapidTrak does not use triggers to steer the snow blower. Since it uses the AutoTurn (or automatic locking differential) all you have to do is move the handles in the direction you want to go and it turns, just like a shopping cart or just like the wheeled Ariens Deluxe/Platinum snow blowers.
      That's just fine for making course corrections but when you want to make a 180 degree turn tracks can be difficult - even with steering triggers like the other brands use. But, the RapidTrak fixes that - When you want to turn just push down on the handles about 1 1/2 inch. By pushing down on the handles the front raises up so it easy to turn - just like you do with any other snow blower. At the same time the back of the tracks lock up letting the weight of the snow blower to rest on the large front cog/wheel. It pivots on that front "wheel" and turns just like a wheeled unit. It's easy, fast and effortless to use.
      I haven't asked Ariens what their plans are for next fall - none of the brands like to release too much info before July. That said, LCT does have a new 420 cc commercial engine - it's on the current Pro 28 Hydro. I've been using the LCT 420cc EFI on a prove-design item all winter and the engine is AWESOME! It is easily as good as the Briggs and appears to be more fuel-efficient. In other words - get the Briggs if you want - it's a great engine. But the new LCT is an excellent alternative.
      And yes, the dealer has to order his fall stock and special order stock now to get the best deals and to ensure he has enough snow blowers for next winter.

    Hi Paul. Why does snow get thrown out of the left side of the auger housing. A small amount of it gets thrown back on the area that you have cleared. Thanks Mike

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  7 лет назад

      Without talking to Ariens I'll surmise that if there is too much snow going into the impeller and it gets "offloaded" to the left side of the machine. And when the snow is just the right depth the auger can't catch it all and it gets thrown out the front. I've noticed this on all the Ariens Deluxe, Platinum and Pro models. Most of the time it throws it straight, out the front but every so often it will throw a little out the left side. I've found if this is happening all I have to do is move over 2 inches and the driveway stays cleared.
      I don't consider it a problem and don't mention it because there are other snow blowers that are much "dirtier."

      No apologies needed. I think you want to know the auger and impeller diameter. The front auger is 14 inches and the impeller is 14 inches.

      Sorry, The tracks have three positions - wheel, normal and locked. It changes between the three with a small lever under the right handlebar. In wheel mode it's balanced and just like a wheeled snow blower. In the normal position, the tracks are down but all the weight is still on the front "wheel" so it still turns well. I can turn it in my garage well. When the tracks are locked it goes forward in a straight line. Just releasing the lock lets you turn easily again. My video walk around (link below) explains it better.
