They're doing their job--like it or not. He's constitutionally entitled to a defense and his attorneys have an ethical obligation to zealously represent their client--right or wrong.
That's how America was designed to work--it's literally right there in the Constitution. How can you have a fair trial without a defense? You can't. I'm not defending this guy, I just get tired of seeing this nonsense criticizing defense attorneys when they're just simply doing their job. More than likely, it's a public defender making sub-$50k annually.

I think it was because he was shot and didn't think he did anything to warrant being shot. They had to explain to him "you had a gun" and his response was "...pause... It might've looked like it but I promise I wasn't going to shoot at nobody."
I'm not defending him of innocence, nor saying he's right or justified in any way, but just trying to explain why he said "I didn't do nothin."
It is a problem though that young criminals think that the punishment is maybe some jail time for doing crimes carrying a deadly weapon, and that it's just games.

I can actually believe that he wasn't going to shoot at anyone - from the still images it looks like he kept his finger off the trigger. Of course he did intentionally point the gun back at the officers to make it look like he was going to shoot them, which was downright stupid and suicidal.

    • @dlc1217

@@UmmonKarpe I can believe it too.
I think maybe he really was, at that very moment, thinking and saying he was just trying to run. The reality is though that if you are doing so with a gun in your hand, no officer can know your intentions and must react. I’m just bewildered at the mental gymnastics undertaken by people who see this and think the officer didn’t have the right to shoot the suspect in this case. It appears the kid is lucky to be alive. I hope he will find his way to better choices.
