Many years ago, I was in the neighboring city of St. Charles. It was the downtown district with many small shops and brick-paved roads near the Mississippi River. With it being a cool crisp day I had my window rolled down. While at a stop sign, a cop on horseback comes up beside me. Next thing I know I am gasping for air. The officer leaned over and asked me if everything was O.K. I responded "No. Your horse just farted." While laughing, the cop pats the horse on the head and says "Good boy." I then asked the officer, "Are horse farts the new way of fighting crime?"

Technically--I'd not do it that way, if I knew that lane was ending (like it had been like that for a day or two...)

Re Porsche. A friend asked me to drive their Porsche to a service station. I had to take the freeway to get there. The speed limit was 100 kms, I honestly thought i was doing 60 miles an hour or 100 kmh. I was way wrong. Yup, i was driving 100 MPH. Porsches are frighteningly gluey to the road. (Took me all of 10 minutes to figure out it was not go slow day.)

The idea is to merge as quickly as you can to keep the flow of traffic, not to fly up, slam on your brakes and force your way in causing a traffic jam. It's so dumb to go the full length. I merge as soon as possible, am always able to get into the left lanes almost immediately, and go flying past all the idiots flying up the merge lane trying to pass slow cars to bury themselves in the slow lane. I promise you if you merge immediately, you will be able to get a faster moving lane faster, and pass more cars. Don't beleive me, try it. Next time you are in a merge lane, get over ASAP and i bet you will come back here an thank me.
