The shield is set up REALLY weird and has her gripping it at the bottom so she's holding it with an almost straight arm - sort of like whoever set it up thought you were supposed to hold a kite shield like they do in Dark Souls lol. Obviously that's not on her - the guys in the back look like HEMA guys, which makes that an even dumber mistake tbh. So she's turning her back to her opponent- something you never want to do, but perhaps because the shield is too heavy for her to hold horizontally with it like that. A "perfect" block would see her arm held horizontally between her and the opponent, with the shield vertical, covering as much of her as possible, with a wider stance. If she were going for a follow up strike, she would want to block it much higher and closer to the base of the blade. With the shield as it is, the best block would be with, again, a wider stance, but with more of the side of her shoulder, trying to stay facing him as much as possible. And again, never turning your back to your opponent.
