Manchester City star Phil Foden was delighted to be named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and reflected on a magnificent season, while looking ahead to Sunday’s decider, the FA Cup final and England’s Euro 2024 campaign.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 Intro
0:01 Really special to be amongst such a company who’ve won this award. My game has come on loads this season. It’s a real honour.
0:36 I’ve moved more centrally this season where I think I’ll end up later in my career. I’ve been delighted.
1:00 Being an attacking player at Man City you want that responsibility to try and score goals and assist team mates. I put that pressure on myself and I like that pressure.
1:29 It was tough to lose Kevin and Erling for large parts of the season. But we have so many special players. I knew I had to step up and help the team.
2:06 We’re such a professional group and when we’re not performing well, we’ll have a group meeting and get things back on track. Kyle has been a good leader this year and a great captain. We still have great hunger for trophies.
2:38 I couldn’t ask for anyone better than Pep to be my coach. He’s improved me so much since I first started training with the first team. I’m still only 23 and want to keep taking his advice.
2:58 You have dreams when you’re growing up but it was so challenging with the players we had in the first team but I knew it was possible and I always believed in myself and I’m delighted now to be getting my rewards.
3:21 Being a local lad I feel like it means a little bit more. It’s a dream come true to be playing in this special team and I feel like it’s a little bit extra special for me.
3:49 It’s been such a challenge for us on the last day so many times. Sunday will not be straightforward, the job is not done. We have to remain calm and try and play our football.
4:22 The belief is always there because we’ve done it before in these title races. We’ve shown again that we can do this season. We have to remain focused on the last game.
4:46 Cup final is still a while away. Focus will shift after West Ham to the United game. A derby at Wembley it will be a special occasion. These are the games you want to play in.
5:15 When it’s a derby it means more for the fans and for the players. I’m really looking forward to it.
5:34 Euros? We have full belief and confidence. We’ve shown in previous tournaments where we’ve been so close. We’ve got so much quality around the pitch so it’s possible, we just have to go now and prove it.
5:57 It’s so nice to see so many young players doing well. Especially Cole having been at City with him, to see him have an unbelievable season is special. Hopefully we can all connect really well going into the Euros and perform well.
6:20 It’s great to see Harry Kane scoring goals going into the tournament, it’s what we’re going to need if we’re going to win anything.
6:37 Dream this summer is to win the Euros and then before you know it we’re back ready for another season.

Just give this team the title already guys
Not expecting any final day surprises
Superb player, great interview.
Phil Foden won it because he is English. Rodri deserved it.
Foden a worthy winner, wouldn't argue against Rodri either
come on the guy was excellent
So Declan Rice won nothing because he's Irish??
@@cluckingbell1772Irish 🙈🙈🙈
Bruv he’s English born n bread - and Foden deserved this , he’s been the best player the whole season- now can’t wait to see Bellingham/ rice / Manoo/ Foden as the midfielders for England 🏴 euro 24
Saka never seems to get any love when talking about englisg players despite also having yet another amazing season and always turns up for england something mr FWA pity cant do
Saka has had a good season but Foden has been levels above
@@HaytersTV i disagree they have had very similar seasons so he hasnt been levels above him, foden is not citys most important player thats rodri as we have seen when he doesnt play.
@@MM-sc9vg i disagree they have had very similar seasons because Bottle it Like Bukayo has won fcuk all again
@@HaytersTVpretty similar
most overrated player in the league, Mo Salah has more goal contributions this season yet gets called "finished" 🤣🤣
Crazy comment 😂
Foden carrying his team to a league what's Salah doing? Fuck all
@@22jamie_ Foden been superb
Rodri carried city not foden@@22jamie_
Manchester City have 115 charges.
Arsenal fans have 115 excuses for why they haven't won a major trophy for 20 years and why cone layer hasn't won fcuk all for 4 after spending 700m quid
Let this sink deep into them. Titles on top of 115 charges never settled
@@babybwoy1844 Man City will never decline as much as your hairline chump
Let that sink in
Honest question why does he keep that haircut it's genuinely terrible.
For me it s cool
I love when ppl dont copy others
