The drummer is Gene "The Atomic Clock" Hoglan. Check out any and all of his projects. The writer of the music, Brenden Smalls, also wrote the little diddies in the cartoon 'Home Movies' that would be a fun video to contrast
“One more year of further suffering, There’s no point in fucking bluffing, Open up your dethday present, It’s a box of fucking nothing!!!!” In this episode it’s the bassists birthday and the rest of the band gets him the most metal present ever… Disappointment (a big box of nothing)😂
This is death metal. Metalocalypse is SUCH a gem! It’s the naturalistic dialogue and awkward mundanity of Home Movies, infused with all the true surreal insanity you could see that Small was forced to route around before and couldn’t really express. The music is genuinely great too, for people who can handle (or ignore) the visuals. If you ever wanna hit another, Go Forth and Die is a lot clearer and more melodic, and the original series finale was a rock opera special called The Doomstar Requiem, which also has a fantastic soundtrack (pretty different to a lot of the rest of the show.) It’s all worth checking out imo. Really hope you come back to these guys again sometime!
1:34 the very first episode of Metalocalypse (cartoon show about the band Dethklok) had a concert about Coffee. You made a joke without knowing and that makes me happy lol. Stay well man. Edit: I’m sure other people corrected you but incase they didn’t, it’s pronounced Death-Clock
Dethklok is definitely on the heavier side of Melodic Death Metal. Which is pretty amusing for a cartoon band. The TV Slow, Metalocalypse, is awesome, by the by.
Dethklok is a satirical metal band from an animated show where in that universe they are insanely popular world wide, I think they have a GDP higher than Belgium or something. There are also a ton of cameos from metal musicians and nods to metal bands for example there’s a burger joint called Dimmu Burger (there is a band called Dimmu Borgir)
Furthermore, the real life creators and musicians of all fictional characters are just two very talented people, the main one being Brendon Small, who had also done other popular work and Adult Swim shows, such as Home Movies. They also hire actors for Dethklok live shows and concerts stage.
Seriously though, "I Tamper With Evidence at the Murder Site of Odin" by Dethklok is so fantastic; the melody line that comes in at 1:30 is one of my favorites of all time! They are surprisingly technical and intricate for a "joke/satire" project, and the show Metalocalypse is incredibly clever! Thanks for this one Geebz, you rock, stay cool, peace!
Metalocalypse is an absolute gem. It's a satirization of all heavy metal tropes. Nathan Explosion is always using the metal voice Murderface is depressed and obsessed with old war paraphernalia Skwisgaar Skwigelf Alcoholic Pickles the Drummer is wacky Toki Wartooth is an overlooked genius Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle was an amazing way to open the show. Most of the people in the show have someone in the metal world they're based on. Nathan Explosion = Corpsegrinder Murderface = Geezer Butler Skwisgaar Skwigelf = Alexi Laiho Pickles the Drummer = Deven Townsend Toki Wartooth = Frederik Thorendal Dr. Rockso the Cocaine Clown = David Lee Roth
I love your channel. It really scratches that itch that we music nerds get. I don’t listen to music- but rather feel, listen, and even see it. I can’t help but actively visualize what the musicians are playing, and how the sounds have been manipulated through production in real time with every beat and note. I have a feeling you’re the same way and you’re excellent at conveying your experiences to those of us without the gift of gab. Couple that with your educational input and it’s always great content! Thank you sir! Keep it up, you will surely reach 1m subs in time!
If you haven't already watched the whole show, you owe it to yourself to get through the 4 seasons of the show., as well as the 2 movies (2nd movie wraps up the storyline). There is an epic, meaningful and serious story that unfolds under the light-hearted comedy that happens episode to episode and really is a masterfully crafted story (which wouldn't be apparent from watching a couple of episodes). In addition the music is next level throughout (all single handedly crafted by Brenden Smalls I might add). I've had the privilege of seeing the "band" play twice, and it is something to behold.
Would love to see you check out Volcano, Gardener of Vengeance, Fan Song, I Ejaculate Fire, or Murmaider I. The albums get more musically complex from I-IV and they all do some interesting stuff, but I tried to pick out some unique songs to select from :) Hope you have a wonderful week! I’m so glad you’re still around expanding our casual understanding of the songs that move us 🤝
DEADFACE from their last year's album is probably my favourite song by Dethklok, the arrangement is insane! Brendon Small is an incredible composer, musician, writer, director and voice actor, I have a lot of respect for him.
I was a few years done with high school and had moved about 30 mins out of the city. I would drive back into town every Tuesday for a night of playing WoW with two high school buddies. We would start the night by watching the newest episode of Dethklok and eating some dirty fast food. We finished the night with raiding Molten Core. The best nights were when we didnt have to work the next day and could drink until 3am and sleep all day. That was 17 years ago, god damn time flies.
They used to. Dethklok _was_ a real band outside of the show, but Adult Swim held the rights to the name, and they treated Small and Dethklok like shit. Metalocalypse was canceled after 3 seasons and Dethklok wasn’t allowed to continue performing, and the general consensus rn is that Mike Lazzo (or someone else at [as]) was offended by the *massive* push from the fandom to give the show* a conclusion of some sort. There were petitions, harassment, threats, like literally the way Dethklok fans were portrayed in the show was starting to go on and Small started airing his own grievances with Lazzo and it just became this massive meme in a way that reflected HORRIBLY on [as]. We did get a finale rock opera special, it ended on a cliffhanger, everyone was trying to get it picked up for the original final season we were supposed to have by either Netflix or Hulu (who used to have airing rights to most [as] content; this was before the AT&T-Warner disaster that tanked almost every [as] original a couple years ago) - [as] made it worse by teasing Small and Dethklok’s fans and inviting them to play again at Adult Swim Festival 2019 (for the first time in over 5 years, over which they weren’t _allowed_ to use the name)… it was a mess. Venture Bros s8 was the other BIG hit that fans complained about during the merger disaster-Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick even talked about the upcoming season at DragonCon that year, which was already deep in development, because _even they_ weren’t informed that the show was canceled. [as] content was moved from Hulu to HBO Max, who started purging it all within the year because of rights drama. Then two years ago, Metalocalypse was given another special along with ATHF (which also had a massive history of VA abuse, repeated cancellations, fan outcry, reboots, etc.) and Venture Bros. Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar came out direct-to-video last year to pretty mild reception because it didn’t have a home network and Dethklok still isn’t allowed to tour. I didn’t even know it was officially out and not still a rumor until…this past Christmas? So after one more tour with Babymetal, Nekrogoblikon, and DragonForce, and one last Dethklok album, which released around the same time, Brendon Small has been pretty clear that this is the end of the band. He did still lead Brendon Small’s Galaktikon for two albums and they were pretty obviously inspired by Metalocalypse, but legally it’s its own thing. He’s been really open in interviews about how tired he is and that he isn’t interested in getting back in with [as] now that it’s changed hands several times since the drama. When the new special was about to come out, WOUB asked him why the band was back now after such a long hiatus and he said, “The only reason we’re back is because people kept on watching all this stuff over the years. So the business suits at Max and Adult Swim all started kind of looking at each other and going, ‘Why is this show still so popular and why are there still such solid numbers and blah, blah, blah?’ That’s why we came back.” I haven’t heard anything about him since Army of the Doomstar, and I can’t find anything more recent than that talking about his plans or what he’s even doing anymore. It’s really sad and frustrating but Lazzo’s [as] has a long, dark history of abusing and taking advantage of creators: underpaying VAs so severely that they were stuck living in their cars, stringing creators along with promises of new seasons and axing them without even saying so, running shows into the ground at the creators’ expense, etc. Moral Orel, Metal, and ATHF were the tip of pretty bleak iceberg if you wanted to look into it. So no, they’re not still around anymore. I really hope Brendon Small keeps doing _something_ but if he is atm, no one knows about it yet. Best we can do is hope he’s happier now, whether he’s moving on or not..
Brendon Small did all of the music himself which blows my mind every time I hear a track that he made and inserts little easter eggs from the guitar which makes me think: "Oh hell yeah, you aren't a poser!"
*DETHKLOK!* It is a kind of an unsaid joke that the band in the *_Metalocalypse_* animated TV series _apparently_ thought that spelling "clock" as _klok_ would be more "Metal" 😅. Then again, *both* _would_ obviosuly be pronounced the same, /klɒk/. *Gene Hoglan* on the drums 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘!
I'm still here! Strangely great band given that it stemmed from an Adult Swim cartoon. Which is also really, really great. Also please god react to the coffee song; it was written for us unfortunate addicts.
Yo, Metalocalypse is a fantastic show. Back when Adult Swim put out quality programming. This one might be my favorite Season 1 track. I just love that filthy blues sound in the riffs and leads/solos. It's a very underutilized style and works great in death metal. There was an old christian thrash/death metal band from the late 80's called Vengeance Rising that really flexed this style and I still, to this day, will put their first 2 records up against any competition. Just absolutely disgusting riffs with brilliant solos and PRISTINE mixing. If that sounds interesting to you (or anyone in the comments) check out the track Can't Get Out from the album Once Dead. Don't worry about that it's "christian," I promise it doesn't matter. This ain't Stryper and most death metal lyrics are pointless anyway. I'm telling you it slaps harder than your step-dad.
Dethklok is a fake band with silly themes for their music, but The Dethalbum 2 is legitimately in my top 5 favorite albums, full stop Check out Black Fire Upon Us or Tampering With the Evidence at the Murder Site of Odin

Love u pointed out home movies too, he also is in bobs burgers too
SYL, SYL, SYL!!!🤘🔥
The bassist Bryan Beller played bass for Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan etc.
I beg you for more Dethklok, they have so many hidden gem! The comedic master piece of their coffee jingle is also great!
Do you folks like coffee?!
@@Tygorgon12real coffee, from the hills of Colombia.
“One more year of further suffering,

But first they got him the car Kennedy was assassinated in retrofitted with the chair Lincoln was assassinated in as the driver's seat.

You really needed to follow along with the lyrics for this one, as a great fun death metal birthday song
Metalocalypse is an absolute gem. It's a satirization of all heavy metal tropes.

Very touching of them to write this for friend and bassist, William Murderface who is a total nihilist.
if anyone likes the drummer from dethklok check out "strapping young lads" its some fucking good metal
Alien is an incredible album!!
Ah yes, Pickles the Drummer’s band

its said like Death-clock. One of the show creators is a guitar player. Even goes on tour playing this i think.

Murmaider is a classic
Murmaider is my favorite!
"RSVP please" 😂
Saw these dudes a couple of weeks ago and it was phenomenal.
You should definitely check out either " The Galaxy" or "Crush the Industry" by Dethklok. Legitimately amazing.
That 1st Dethalbum has so many good riffs, used to have 2 copies of the CD to share
Fun fact: the butler guy who looks like he was sewn back together wrong was the inspiration for their hit song Sewn Back Together Wrong.
I love this band, you should do "i temper with evidence at the murder sight of Odin
Gene is insane . And the guitar work is nuts . And the animation is very close to ehat they play
Thank you Geebz
Brendon Small did all of the music himself which blows my mind every time I hear a track that he made and inserts little easter eggs from the guitar which makes me think: "Oh hell yeah, you aren't a poser!"
It would very much interest you to hear the Dethklock version of the Duncan Hills Coffee jingle. It's brutal. 🤘
You could do sooooo many videos on Dethklok 😂
Brendon Small used a signature Carvin Steve Vai head back in these days. Good catch Geebz!
They also did the Batmetal series that were both funny as hell, and amazing to listen to musically.
The cartoon was so good I never got to see the new seasons. Here in Canada they stopped playing it on tv after season 2 or 3.
I’ve been listening to Counterfist - Holyman. Has some Tool vibes, such a cool track. Drown is another good song by them too
Yessssss! More Metalocalypse! Love the tones of 🤘 Dethklok🤘 Check out Underwater Friends!
Lmfao!!! I can't believe this ❤️🔥❤️🔥🤣🍻
I really like Thunderhorse by them, by Mermaider is pretty deece too (kinda surprised that's not what got recommended first)
Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats) is the bass player of the band. He's a monster player.
Their Blues song was absolutely fantastic. Poor devil had to try to buy their souls.
Murmaider is still the OG Dehtklok song
*DETHKLOK!* It is a kind of an unsaid joke that the band in the *_Metalocalypse_* animated TV series _apparently_ thought that spelling "clock" as _klok_ would be more "Metal" 😅. Then again, *both* _would_ obviosuly be pronounced the same, /klɒk/.
*Gene Hoglan* on the drums 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘!
Yeah! Dethklok!
I'm still here! Strangely great band given that it stemmed from an Adult Swim cartoon. Which is also really, really great. Also please god react to the coffee song; it was written for us unfortunate addicts.
Myself and DethKlok included, refer to B-days as Womb Escapment Day! 🤣🤣🍻
Dethalbum 2 is damn near perfect. Try The Cyborg Slayers, has a bluesy breakdown that just tickles my pickle.
Yeah, you're gonna need to listen to Strapping Young Lad. Gene Hoglan is just fckin BRUTAL!!!!
I recommend doing a marathon of all 3 Murmaider songs.
Was wondering have you heard of Nick Thurl Mavromatis? He's new song is fire! You should react to it
Please listen to some acid bath it's one of my personal favorite I think you will find the composition and mix outstanding and very outside the box
Dethklok lyrics are always so funny.

Falling in Reverse- Ronald!!!!
Gotta do more Dethklok.
This show is the fuckin bees knees! ❤
Hey man you ever see Electric Callboy? If not I’d love to see you react to their song tekkno train.
GEEBZ: please do “dukes of the Stratosphear” any song, you pick
Dethklock - Go Forth And Die (no bias)
This "Dethlok" sounds an awful lot like Dethklok. 😛
Howve you been geebz
Doing good man :)
@@KeyOfGeebz you should check out sigur ros' new album
I really miss that show... :(
I would argue that this is technically Parody Metal.
Please react to their newer tracks. The writer of the band has improved so much beyond just the first album. I beg you to react to more 🙏🙏🙏
Hey GeeBz please do a critique of my nephew’s Eric band BLACK PUMAS Colors tune?
Death Klock not Death Lock. You need to watch a few episodes of the show to get the full effect.
Please why did no one on the stream correct him... dethLOCK? Wut.😑....😅🤷♀️ mebbe they did & he didn't see. Drove me a tad nutso.😱😜
Dethklok is a fake band with silly themes for their music, but The Dethalbum 2 is legitimately in my top 5 favorite albums, full stop
Check out Black Fire Upon Us or Tampering With the Evidence at the Murder Site of Odin
It's pronounced death clock. Metalocalypse it's a very funny cartoon.
Can you please react to the new Starset song?! Brave New World? I miss the new release ractions. Plus Starset doesnt get enough love on your channel. Fantastic track from them too!
Geebz, I think you've reacted to enough metal songs at this point you can start claiming to be experienced with it now. 😅
Dethklok has so many legit good songs but it feels like “the funny ones” are all people talk about
The majority are funny or meant to be ridiculous because of the cartoon
Out of all Dethklok songs, you pick this one? Uh, OK.
Its pronounced Death Clock
It's funny that deathklock is the best sounding death metal band yet it's not even a real band
I like the cartoon series about the band "Metalocalypse" but I don't really care for their music, there is way better death metal out there
