Looks like a father and son making great memories. Fun videos. Thanks.
Yes. This one will not be forgotten 👊👊
These videos are GOLD!!!
Educational value: 10/10
Feelgood factor: 10/10
Great job, Chris and Garrett!!👊
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video. 👊👊
🫶
😁
Great video, Chris! Glad to hear the shout out to Yogi! He's really coming up, plus he's a good guy!
👊👊
Chris, with this footage here, you have just added another dimension to your channel, I do like it.
And you Garrett, you seem to be doing as well on camera as on a bike; keep it up!
(Like father, like son -:;)
Thanks for comments 👊👊
Helps having dad next to me on camera! He fills in when I run out of things to say
Thanks for watching 🤟
Chris Horner going from super-domestique to GC winner to super-domestique-dad again.. Full circle. 👊
😂👊
Super-domestique-dad is an understatement 🤟😁
Garret has only 19 years left to win La Vuelta. Probably one of the best sherpas in the USA.
😂👊🇪🇸
Watched all three videos, great job Garret you’ve got an awesome coach. Great job Chris. Love your videos you say it like it is no BS.
👊👊
The BEST coach 😁
Thanks for watching! 🤟
I love these Garrett videos. Most of us aren't pros so it makes cycling more relatable.
6’2”. 138 lbs. World class climber numbers!
Garrett’s light and strong like his dad, but has more length and leverage. Excellent climbing body!
Garrett should be a cross country runner quite frankly. With that physique he could dominate. And in track and field he could get a legit college scholarship. As much as I love cycling, hard to make a living with it unless you are literally one of the best in the world like Chris.
👊👊
I'm a loonnng ways off of world class but being thin has helped a ton so far 👊😁
@@mattbleuer5011 I've got absolutely zero running technique 😂 Plus the dirt bike hasn't exactly been kind to my legs... however, it might be easier to build some technique now that I've got some base fitness for the first time ever 😁
Thank you for sharing Chris. Thank you also Garrett for letting us go through this process with you. I watched all of the videos and watched the entire ride from yesterday. You should be very proud. There are people who pay a lot of money to get coaching that is not half as good as this.
👊👊
Yup I've got the best coach there is! Least I can do is share the journey 👊😁
Right on, right on ! I paid a high profile coach for 7 months to realize that he wasn't tailoring things for me or giving real feedback. Good coaching should be like your example. Even for older riders, this helps
Exactly. No coach is worth it if it’s not personal to each rider. 🤔👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling Yep, went back to old school this year with a long base and gradually ramping up intensity and moved to Zwift A, adding about 40 watts to FTP.. Now on to the real world, it is warmer now
Good looking boy. I coached my son’s basketball team for a couple years and taught my son and daughter rock climbing. It’s always a complicated line to walk coaching as a parent. I’ve seen it done badly so many times with the parent more invested in the kids performance than the kid. Looks like you two have a great rapport, however.
Very complicated indeed. 👊
like father like son, great video, you both deserve admiration and respect, thanks for covering all the important aspects such as motivation, diet, proper rest, etc
I'm so happy to see Garrett take advantage of it all. What a shame if he didn't. Even if money and time wasn't there, Chris is an awesome dad!
👊👊
This is great info, to hear both the student and coach's perspective.
👊👊
Glad you liked it! 🤟😁
You're son looks like a great young man and has your wonderful ability to speak well! Would love to see a video discussing your diet as a pro and diet now. Looks like you stay in fantastic chape
Man, what I wouldn't give to be able to do 197 watts for 5 hours!
It just feels sooo good 👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
Love this series!!
You guys are amazing! Super impressed at what you achieved Garrett, if I had switched to a proper road bike 3 days before I would have been terrified 🤣
Been doing the shoot out since becoming a junior in the mid 80s, Ralph Philips saying it's Ride time as we went down University blvd and then out to Mission Road all the way to Duval mine Road and then back in old Nogales Highway
I did way back around 2000 with Gordo (team Mercury) and then just last month. 😂👊💪
@ I remember in 2004 going out with GF and Mike CS with the health net squad two get GF ready for the tour of Georgia stage race, I also remember when I was a junior riding in the 80s and an up-and-comer took me under his wing to help me out and that guy's name was Andy Bishop, but he literally was around for a season and then he went from a cat four to a pro almost overnight
@@ChrisHornerCycling I remember wayback win during the L tour de Tucson GF and Jimmy R smashing everybody on a tandem, unfortunately I flatted with about 2 miles to go and wound up finishing 2 1/2 minutes behind them that year, those were some good times. Unfortunately I'm one of those guys that had to go to college and get a 9-to-5 job, but Raytheon is an awesome place to work
Did the same thing with my daughter and now with my son-in-law I know the feeling!
Can’t go wrong on Thurlow’s wheel!
Thurlow and I go way back 😂👊
He saved me from getting dropped on that road the week before too 😂
You have the best coach you could’ve asked for what a lucky lad!
Great job !!
👊👊
Thanks for the 9nformation Chris.....you already know i'm a cycling fan....I am not all that informed about what it actually takes to be at the top of the game nowadays!!
👊👊
good going there Garett... I rode with your pop on the swamis ride back in the late 80's early 90's.... Mark, Dan, Steve, Charlie.... Eddie B ... what a group. The Sat A ride your dad killed all of us... the Wed morning Tri ride was another killer. Your dad is the best coach you could possibly have.... Kill it, ride hard and SAFE
I loved that old original Swami’s entrance into Elfin. 👊👊
Best coach is right
Thanks for watching! 🤟🙂
Not gonna lie. I’m low key jealous it would take me 15x longer to get to the level of riding with swamis A. Genetics and age.
Age helps. I would love to take some guy over 30 or 40 and see how it goes under the same circumstances more or less though . 🤔👊💪
Age is definitely a big help. I think the most credit goes to dad's coaching but genetics is an unknown factor; not sure how we'd test the affects of that one. 🤔
I was surprised to see how well he rode in the group, stable to little movement on the bike within the pack. appears to be a quick learner
That was my biggest concern/worry with Garrett. Could Garrett handle the bike. He had zero time with a big group ride before this trip but he has been on the dirt bike track often which I thought (hoped) would translate over some to the bicycle and he had been training with me thru out the six weeks so I knew he could go straight with no problems but what I didn’t know was if he could see and predict dangers ahead. Along with that I took him often on the this same loop which I knew would help Garrett as I explained how the ride would go alone each section of the course way before we did Swami’s. 🤔👊
Pretty easy to pick things up when I get to spend a few hundred miles following a world class rider around 😁
No thinking, just watch, learn, and mimic 👊
@@garretthorner copying the experienced, older guys is how I taught myself (and still do). You've got a grand teacher and your own skills too. GL
Top 15! Thanks Chris
Bam 👊👊
Masterclass
👊👊
He knows how to coach 👊
Did I just really watched 17 minutes of group ride breakdown? LOL 😆
That's why I love the old newspaper have a sheet of newspaper at the beginning of a ride then you can throw it in the rubbish bin whenever you get the chance. I got destroyed on a group ride one day there was one guy on the front and everyone else was just peeling off and I thought what's the go so I thought I'd stay on the front with him well as soon as I stayed longer than everyone else he put the hammer down bang I was gone 😂. Great video .
😂👊👊
Good coaching but great parenting. 🎉❤
Thanks 👊👊👊👊👊👊
Beeing the child of top-level parents are among the strongest successfactors that gives both capasity-body and accessible skills. Two very strong Norwegiand bikers, Rune Høydal and Vegard Nordhagen, have their kids on Visma Lease a Bike Development team, and Visma Lease A Bike.
Great work Garrett (and Chris)...wanted to ask you, now that the "Six Weeks Couch to Hero" program is completed, what's next for Garrett? More riding? Videos are great!!!!
Garrett is still on daily riding training. Where he goes with it is just up to him. 👊👊
Just did my first ride on Zwift today! There's a good bit of snow outside so I'll be doing 2-4 hour a day in the garage (Hopefully 2 in the morning before making a video and 2 at night after posting it). We'll see how the legs improve from here 👊😁
Keep having fun…enjoy the journey!!
Really sweet bike, best groupset ever, amazing wheels.
Garrett loves the ride upgrade. 👊
The sky’s the limit!…Go Garrett! 🦋👍👊
👊👊
Going is the plan! As for the limit, we'll see where the legs end up 👊😂
Hahaha your son has NHL worthy hair and I am reminded you used to have a pony tail too.
I wish they had a bigger cycling community where I'm at, but in south Louisiana, and I mean south, i'm a lonesome dove..😂😅
BOOYA!!!! What a coach! ❤ Watch out Tadej! 😊
Booya 🏆👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👍
I think Tadej has bigger fish to fry 👊😂
@ 🤣
Cool! Proud papa
👊👊
Chris, how much real difference do you think the change of bike and pedals made? You still have to put the power on the pedals.
I ride a Cannondale synapse and MTB pedals, albeit, my bike is a Two-by.
I find this bike comfortable and being a 60 year old, I feel the days of me being able to hang with the “A” group are probably gone, whatever bike and shoes I used.😉
nice
👊👊
❤❤
❤️❤️
Chris can you put Garrett's 100mi link in the descriptions? I wanted to watch it after your video but the link was in the middle and can't find it
He Rode his FIRST 100 Miles & was FRESH After

👊👊
Only Kadel Evens can say he had a domestic that good on a big ride to save the day❤❤❤
was Thurlow Rogers on that ride?
That's what I said!
Yes. That’s Thurlow. 👊
Well, at this rate, Kid's gonna win the vuelta waaay before he hits 41.
😂👊
Could someone explain to me why (according to Chris) it's considered taboo to switch to the small chainring while stopping for a light? Seems like common sense to me. Maybe it's the snobbery of roadies?
Nothing to do with snobbery, it's just unlikely to be inefficient or unnecessary and in a drop group ride, losing 2-3 secs messing with gears just means you'll tire yourself out catching up. Shifting down at the back, with the range 11-12s affords is more than enough.
He casually drops Thurlow’s name like he’s just some guy…
Hehehe. I wondered how many viewers would recognized Thurlow’s arm bands. 😂👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling 😆😆
are these rides easy for you Chris?
Come train in Kansas. You'll be in the small chainring 80% of the time because of the wind. I was doing 13mph against 35mph gusts the other day.
I did Tour of Qatar, it doesn’t get worse than that. 💨🐪🐫😬👊
Gotta get him on a good eating plan. Big popportunity at his age to build a great motor. But its gonna take work.
Garrett has learned the value of calories needed to ride 100 miles. 👊👊
All the calories is my least favorite part of riding the bike, but I'm getting used to it. It's worth it to go faster!
There's a reason I was 143.5lbs when I started riding 😂
👊👊🚲🚲🦋
👊👊🦋
What is wrong with MTB cleats?
Nothing! Sold my road shoes and pedals. Life is easier with just one style between my six different bikes, plus I can wear whichever pair of shoes that suits the day.
They have to much play with the egg beaters. Great pedal really for cyclocross and MTB but on the road they are too loosey-goosey. 🤔👊
I've found I prefer how locked into the bike I feel with the road pedals. But I think the more important change was getting the road shoes which are much lighter, stiffer, and cooler than my mtb ones are.
However, all I really know is that I felt faster when I put the road shoes on so I'm happy with the change 👊😂
No road disk on a 10 year old bike? Chris must know nothing about cycling... ;)
How much further up the road could you have placed with the race face on?
Probably got a good deal on a rim braked bike.
Rim or disc. The pedals turn round and round still. 😂👊👊
@@stevenmeyer9674 $1,750! Best $1,750 I've spent love that bike 😁
Wow no DNA test needed.
😂👊
talk about a silver spoon, im thinking a golden bike lets see what doesnt he have lol do u give him pushes too while you give the right gear to be in ? and also never drop him and the extra money to stay extra days and two new bikes in 2 weeks wow we all wish we are on this team , but im thinking the group rode with you chris ehhh
Hehehe. To be fair the bike is a 2013. 😂👊
