      Exactly, it's just not practical for many so it's unfair to ding sellers who can't offer next day shipping.

    Problem with just having a sale that isn’t a major sales event is that you’ll always have to run a sale. I have customers that will ask me when my next sale is. Then you’re always running that sale to get orders and then that becomes the new price. People know you’ll always be running that sale so there is no urgency. Then to get more sales you have to have a bigger discount. Then it’s just a downward spiral. Some of my competitors seem to always be having a 70% off sale lately. I don’t know why bother being on Etsy

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah I agree, but at the end of the day, we don't have to run them. If our products are unique enough they will sell even without a discount. Even though I've been playing with offering a coupon, the vast majority of my sales are at the full price. Only do what you're comfortable with. 💚

    • @theiarocksweddingstationery

      Items don't even need to be unique enough to sell without a sale - just be confident in your product and the quality of it you are providing. Maybe look at a small discount if someone ordering a fee items from you but don't be pressured. If someone likes your product and wants it they will pay the full cost. If we all start sales and complete at being the cheapest with eadch other none of us will win and will just devalue what we are all selling.

    Plot twist Kim, but what if the customers themselves actually got encouraged to buy by the next day delivery, without any help from the algorithm? I mean we all know we should be patient with the handmade stuff, but unfortunately our environment keeps us in fight or flight, everything we do has an aura of urgency around it, we’re being asked by our bosses at work to move at a fast pace (not you, you’re self-bossing so ur lucky), we’re under pressure even to walk fast in London if we don’t want to be walked over! We are being fed content that starts with the punchline and every video only lasts only about 30 seconds (which we don’t always watch till the end), we eat fastfood, we take a ‘quick shower’ and so on. And on top of that we are being offered free next day delivery by most shops. I spoke to a colleague of mine who told me it was her sister’s bday and she wanted to buy her something nice, so I suggested Etsy. She laughed and said ‘ah, i’m not that organised, take ages for the order to arrive and her bday is tomorrow!’.

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  Месяц назад

      It definitely could be that too, although surely then that would be the same for my website where the dispatch times were the same? And we are only talking about a day's difference too.
      I do agree that folks prefer to get things in a timely manner though and I've been shocked at how long it takes to get some things from etsy sellers lately. I bought a sticker from a fellow UK seller and it took almost two weeks to arrive! That's going to put people off.
      You also made me laugh with the walking fast in London comment because I had memories come flooding back. Keep up the pace or become road kill and for god's sake STAY ON THE LEFT! 😂🤣

    I sell vintage on Etsy and have done since 2016. My sales have consistently grown year on year. In the last few years my stats showed that revenue was up by 30% - 40% each month. And then July 2024 happened. My sales stopped over night and revenue was down to -85% even though stats said views were up. I had absolutely no idea why, or what to do about it. So, using the equivalent of my computer technical problem solving skills, I decided to turn my shop off and then back on again! I put it on Holiday Mode for half a day. And it seems to have worked. Sales immediately started to trickle through and momentum started building. Now (half way through August) sales are nearly where they were before. I pass this on for what it's worth! But also, I too have noticed that most sales (domestic and international) involve the use of a coupon code discount. Mostly the 10% discount I set up, for items lurking in people's baskets. That would be fine, if it wasn't applied on top of the mandatory Off Site Ad fee of 12.5%, I frequently get hit with. My plan is now to move my higher ticket items to Vinterior.

      I've noticed an uptick yes, but enough for a full time income? Absolutely not. At least not in this current economic climate, selling the products I do. No need to do one day shipping for etsy to promote you - be realistic and offer delivery you can meet. better a longer delivery of a good quality, correct item rather than something is rushed and maybe incorrect. @gillianmcmurray Месяц назад

      @@theiarocksweddingstationery The funny thing is I say don't run ads 😄 They are not cost effective for a lot of sellers and, in my case, have never brought extra traffic to my shop. I have been selling on Etsy for 16 years and it's just one of those things that doesn't work for me. To be honest, sales don't usually work either. But right now, with people having less money and more bills, sales might work. I agree that offering the delivery that is right for us is very important. However Etsy is not very transparent about how the algorithm is working so it's good to test 'all the things' to see what works and what doesn't. Definitely be confident in what you sell - but also be aware of how the market works for you too 😉

    "Annual week of summer" 😆😆😆
    My strategy is to use Etsy for those lower ticket items, but push hard to get sales of my bigger stuff elsewhere. Etsy isn't geared towards supporting sellers with expensive items (their guarantee program is a blinding example), so stuff 'em. There are some big BIG art fairs here in Australia that, while a pain in the butt for me to get to, are much better for artists. They're my goal atm. There's one in early December, and I'm trying to get enough stuff made to fill up a booth by then. We'll see how I go. 😅And then of course, my own personal website.
    As far as discounts, given that I have to account for Etsy's fees, I have very little incentive to create more wiggle room for 25% (or more) discounts. Especially on lower ticket items, which have a bit of a ceiling price. I'm pushing hard for people to receive discounts through my mailing list. They can get an Etsy discount as a sign-up bonus, but from there on, any discounts will be for website purchases. Stuff etsy, that's my mantra. 😅

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  Месяц назад

      That's a good mantra to have. 😉 And I've heard a lot of people saying they're having success with shows and markets as artists this year too. Seems to be the way to go if you're an artist or maker of handmade these days.

      Don't let Etst run you - you run your own shop on Etsy and do what you feels good. You decide how long you want to have to arrange post out your items, you decide your costs etc no need to make it more complicated - if you product is good enough, photos and description is good that's all you need. Ensure if customers ask questions, reply asap is really good also.

      @@theiarocksweddingstationery thanks for replying. I agree re not letting Etsy run you, however, when they tweak things, the effect seems to invariably cause issues which then need dealing with. If Etsy is prioritising shops who offer 1-2 days processing time over shops with longer times, then the pressure is there. Especially as it's increasingly hard to be seen & get any sales. Most Christmas periods have been great for me but last year was awful. I had a best seller pulled for no reason too, in that period, only to have it reinstated after Christmas. The latest bungle is Etsy putting virtually all of my products in the Designed by category when I'm clearly a handmade shop. Reached out twice via chat, filled in a questionnaire & no change. It's a pain in the arse.
