    Actor Al Matthews who played Gunnery Sgt Apone, was a real life soldier and Vietnam Veteran. In an interview he once said "I spent six years in the United States Marine Corps; I hold thirteen combat awards and decorations, including two purple hearts. I was the first black Marine in the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of sergeant; I served with Kilo Battery, Fourth Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, of that I am very proud."

    Obligatory Fun Facts Post:
    The original shuttle sets from the first movie were destroyed after filming wrapped, so for the opening scene they had to recreate the shuttle set in exact detail.
    The Atmosphere processor sets were built at a disused power station outside London in the UK and were left in place after shooting. Two years later when Tim Burton was making the 1988 Batman movie at Pinewood Studios, the Atmosphere processor sets were still in good condition, so they were reused for the Axis Chemical Factory scenes.
    Michael Biehn who plays Hicks, was not originally cast to play the role which originally went to James Remar, but was fired after being charged with drug offences. You notice in the movie that Hicks' armour doesn't seem to fit right in some scenes, because it was fitted for Remar who was much bigger than Biehn. There is actually one shot of Remar in the movie, where you see him from behind when they are going into the Alien nest.
    Counting the special edition, no fewer than Four members of the cast of Aliens were all voice actors on Starfleet, a British produced English language version of a Japanese sci-fi marionet series that ran on British TV over 1980-81. Mark Rolston who played Drake, played the pudgy comic relief character and Newt's dad was the hero. The series is best known for the rock album it inspired, by Brian May of Queen in collaboration with Eddie VanHalen, released the following year in 1982, since May's son was a huge fan of the series. The album got a remaster last year and is on streaming and the Series was posted in full here on RUclips.
    And because someone WILL post this, for the sake of movie comments bingo, Janette Goldstein who played Vasquez was also in Terminator 2 as John Conner's foster mother and was also the Irish Mother in Titanic.

    • @CassidiVine
      @CassidiVine 3 месяца назад +1

      Another one I liked was Hudson's joke on Vasquez' signing up as a marine as it reflected Jeanette Goldstein's experience signing onto the cast. She reportedly thought upon signing on that the movie was indeed about aliens in the immigration sense of the word.

      Ooooooooh wait do tell more…..what would the motivation have been for that? • @ro55mo22
      @ro55mo22 3 месяца назад +1

      @@CatherineLaSalle Oh boy, this can turn into a long conversation. For me it kinda comes down to how much the company knows and when. Also if you pick things apart to much you can make plot holes. Like in the first movie, if the company knew about the alien why try and gain a specimen in the way they did? Seems really inefficient. Why not send their own science team out to get it? But then its a big company. Maybe some divisions know secret things and others don't. So maybe after the disappearance of the Nostromo they gave up but then when Ripley turns up 57 years later Burke gets curious and sends some colonists to the derelict ship (see 'Aliens' directors cut). The company doesn't want the alien(s) wiped out but they have to be seen to do something when contact with the colony is lost. So they pick a green Lt and send him off with some unprepared soldiers and Ripley. Perhaps hoping to tie her off as a loose end. But then why would Burke go? Maybe his superiors promised him something if he succeeded? Also does the company (Weyland-Yutani) own the Marine Corp or is it actually a controlled by a government of some kind? Its never clear but it seems in this future that any government in the traditional sense is very limited if not gone entirely. You can really go down the rabbit hole with it. 🙂

    Glad you watched the theatrical release first. It flows better in my opinion. There's a director's cut of this film you can rent with extended scenes you might want to check out later. It's got more things the fans of the film would like to see like what happened to Ripley's daughter the 57 years she was away, scenes with Newt's family, more scenes where Ripley and Hicks flirt with each other, Ripley runs into Burke already cocooned on her way to save Newt, etc.

    Two fun facts: James Cameron and Bill Paxton (Hudson) both started their film careers as crew members for Roger Corman. Actually I think that's how Bill Paxton first met James Cameron.
    Other fun fact is that Bill Paxton has also been in Predator 2 and Terminator 1. The epic sci-fi/horror monster trinity. Won't reveal what happens to him in those movies though until you see them.

And you get to see the Hadley's Hope Colony before Burke screws them over. And you get more about the Marines... there is more than 20 minutes of Story you're missing out on, so you may want to give it a viewing in your spare time? A lot of people are always confused about the scene where Hicks jumps through the Medlab glass/window even though Ripley was unable to break it. People somehow forget that Hudson shoots the window. But, also, people did not pay attention to Gorman when he states the bullets in the pulse rifles are 10 MM (caseless) standard light armor piercing rounds, emphasis on armor piercing. So, the bullets would pierce the thick heavy window and severely weaken it, but it would take a blunt force (a hammer or Hicks throwing his body) to shatter it. Attention to details.

    I actually met Carrie Henn (NEWT) last year at a sci-fi convention; days before Halloween. Wish I could share a picture. Got her autograph on my Aliens DVD. Aliens was her only movie.
    I was amazed that Bishop remained useful after ripped in half, unlike a certain gold droid in Empire Strikes Back. The actor who played him didn’t know how to read until he was 30 years old!
    I was ecstatic when the movie was mentioned in an Avengers film and the basis for a rescue plan! They even did a camera shot that was reminiscent of it.

    I gotta say, even to this day, Ridley's Alien and Cameron's Aliens has some the best nail biting horror scenes. Because in both movies Ripley becomes sole survivor (2nd movie with a kid)against the acid blooded freaks and you can see the visible fear in Sigourney's eyes that we as viewers can feel. Ripley is one of the best pop culture characters ever created. Miss those days...

    If you've never played the Fallout games, anytime you stumble across a vault somewhere in the wasteland, the mystery within takes a similar approach. You just see the aftermath of whatever happened there, and the horror is realized as you find more and more details as to what happened there. This movie does a great job of sprinkling those breadcrumbs to allow the story to unfold brilliantly. The tension building of the motion trackers is also fantastic. Such a simple premise, but it adds so much.

    "Aliens": Third Officer Ripley has been found and taken to Gateway station with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will The Weyland-Yutani Suits make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? 7:08 You are watching the theatrical version, which I saw in 1986. I had a question about Ripley that was answered in 1990, when I bought SE Laserdisc(!) version. 10:48 Actor Jenette Goldstein, is/was a body builder, so pullups were no sweat for her. A fluent Spanish speaker, she went to the casting call looking like a Latina gang member, hence Hudson's "illegal alien" joke. Her freckles drove the makeup artists bonkers. 13:09 Ripley shows Apone and Hicks that she's not a front office paper shuffler like Burke, but a working class dog like themselves. 19:05 I noticed that Ripley was able to "get close, quickly" to Rebecca, unlike the female Colonial Marines. A reviewer of the time said: "Sisterhood!" With the SE Laserdisc, I confirmed that Ripley had been a parent. 21:26 Vasquez has spare fire control modules so the squad will have fire support when needed. 30:33 The Manual of Arms. 37:48 They went out like Klingon warriors. 39:12 The right tool for the job with Duct tape. 41:34 Egg chamber. 45:46 Queen takes Bishop. 46:39 Mech vs. Xenomorph Queen. Sigourney Weaver has said that 'Aliens" was about guns; I thought it was all about Family.
