  • This video shows a brief accuracy/repeatability test by probing the tip of a Starrett 0.001" dial indicator. The robot used in the video is a Fanuc ArcMate100i (aka. Fanuc M6i) which have a reach of approximately 4.5 feet (1.3 meters).
Each number on the indicator denotes 0.001" (0.025-mm). The indicator's small tick marks represent 0.0001" (0.0025-mm).
This is by no means a scientific test, but it does show a ballpark of how accurate these robots can position their tool center point during critical moves.

I love FANUC bots especially when paired to a FANUC controlled machine tool for load and unload operations.

@OCAndy71 I believe whomever edited the video meant to actually say the numbers read 0.001" specifically, sorry for the confusion. And thanks for the correction on the indicator make. I can't quite tell it on the video but it's very possible that it's not a starrett. Most of our indicators are starrett, but we only have a few that are down to the tenth.
I'd like to repeat this test myself using some different movements...someday.

I don't think that's a Starrett test indicator. It's an Interapid (which is leaps and bounds better than the Starrett). Also, the resolution is not .001". It's .0001" (.00254mm). Interapid only makes a handful of models and the ones with a balanced dial reading 0-4-0 are the ones with .0001" resolution. The ones that have dial reading of 0-15-0 are the ones with .001" (old-discontinued) or .0005" reading.

@wccti No worries, I happen to have the exact model as the test indicator in the video (312B-3), that's why I know for sure it is that model. Interapids are wayyy better than Starrett in ALL indicator model. Sorry to say that but it is the truth.
