As a player that went warpless, (no standard or premium banner) I was able to do most of the content in the game, and endgame was doable if one had the proper builds and strategies for each team and character. It was just a different level of investment for good relics just like Genshin.
Welp, as a GI player I wish I had to build more characters in order to play through more end game content. But there is no more endgame content that would require that. Which is pretty boring.
I feel part of reason that HSR has been doing so well is that you do need more characters to play the game. I played GI since its launch and I pretty much got 95% of all characters roaster, but only used them out of pure curiosity and boredom. In HSR you need to have a character for each case scenario, I personally have 20+ characters fully built because of this. Another important factor is that in GI the gameplay mechanics changes a lot from character to character, but the meta doesn't, see for example how in more than 24 versions of GI the only really important meta changes was Dendro that itself was an extension of the elemental reaction meta. On the other hand, it almost seems like every 1 to 2 updates HSR changes the meta and overall direction to make the game feel fresh, they have played with Speed, CritD/CritR, Break Eff, Eff Hit Rate, Defense, Weakness Break (Ruan Mei), DoT (Kafka), and so on, plus added to the different classes synergy it only enhances the gaming experience. HSR was such a breath of fresh air from GI, they been doing an amazing work. And they listen to the community complains, super important.
you forgot one aspect: Power levels on banner stuff in general. Constellations/eidolons, In Genshin, only a few 5 star characters have OP constellations (Raiden Shogun probably being the most insane one), but in HSR, almost all 5 stars have insane eidolons. This makes whaling a completely different beast. Same goes with weapons vs LCs, 5 star weapons are better but not by that much compared to 4 star weapons. Usually the added text on the weapon is a neat bonus. In HSR, light cones can be almost required for a character to function. I got Topaz' LC and it is just tailor made for her basically. When it comes to endgame content, I gotta hold with Star Rail. Honestly, I feel that Abyss is just a chore. It's boring imo, the whole concept of locking the team for 3 rounds at a time is just annoying. At this point, I feel like I have no reason to play Genshin other than to farm and wait for new content. HSR gives challenges with MoC and PF. Genshin desperately needs new endgame content.
I have played both games since release, dropped Genshin last year though but I remained pretty open minded with it in it's state, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt I have felt far more comfortable with rationing my currency in Star rail than ever in Genshin, and am far more happy with the progression of characters in star rail. I can also say that it is without a doubt exceptionally more generous. When is the last time Genshin gave a single 10 pull for limited banners, let alone a free 10 pull nearly every single one or every other one as well as the currency to back it up? My Blade team still preforms exactly as well as he did when Blade was released, Bronya is still a top tier support I can put on 80% of my teams that I want to build just as a filler support, hell I even still use Gepard which I got literally on my first day. I've never felt like the content is moving too fast for me or becoming too difficult, and I've gotten virtually everything I've wanted while being f2p, while they also give out top end 5 stars for free and 10 pulls on every/every other banner and crystals galore.
I will say Black Swan and Kafka totally changes how Dot works it went from a somewhat useless playstyle to rivaling crit dps without the intense farming for crit stats. Sparkle will increase maximum skill points in a battle a total game changer. Adventurine won't even need to use his skill or ult to sustain team. Ruan Mei improves break teams drastically since prolongs break and increases dmg to enemies with weakness break for other characters. Acheron forgoes energy altogether and focuses on debuffs that with proper team can give her an ult every 1 turn seems pretty broken. The mechanic creep is pretty crazy and notice how its all happening at the limited 5 star lvl the 4 star characters have been still playing the same game from 1.0 while limited 5 stars playing a whole different ruleset.
I havent played genshin, but i can say that i do feel like i can coast pretty comfortably and pull when i want in hsr. Im a light spender and only spent money for DIL and Ruan. With the standard banner pulls i feel like that rounded out my roster enough that all i really need is the money and mats to level some more key units to have an easier time, but its not difficult
In Genshin I solely pull for characters that I liked from the story. Not the ones I really "need" as I have enough options. In HSR however I am (just as you mentioned it) missing several types of characters with certain roles to really feel like I can easily go about upcoming content. So when it comes to deciding who to pull for in HSR I... uhh, I actually do the same thing as in Genshin, because I'm bad at making good "gameplay strength" decisions and I just wanna play the characters that I like. :D So... I guess I will struggle for a little while longer. But thats okay. I get my enjoyment from playing fun characters, not strong characters. It still somehow works out enough. And I never even tried anything higher than MoC 8, why bother? I still have enough pulling resources.
E1 yanqing , Himeko , Welt, Gepard and his signature weapon, No Bronya, No Clara, not won a single 50/50. My account is cursed. I am cursed. I am just gonna save my garunteed for whenever Jingliu rerun is no more 50/50 chances i just cant.
I played both games, and let me tell you Genshin is absolutely waste of time. There is no varity of end game where you can use the units you pulled. The abyss is a piece of cake, I only need to use 8 units out of 64, and I know there will be the same 8 for next cycle. At least in Honkai, you can use different characters to get better result in different mode. For example, you can use jinglui in MoC, but she might not be as potent as himeko in pure fiction. Honkai is way more generous than genshin because they give you more reward and nobody tell you to use it right away.
I recently felt very bad in Pure fiction, I had no lightining or wind units that could clear. My jingliu was very bad in the ice side, I built my e6 heta and with serval I barely passed 60k points.
Considering only two units have been "powercrept" since Star Rails release. (Jingyuan by Serval/Kafka and Dan Heng Imskipitor Lunae by Dr Ratio[A Free Unit]) I don't thinks its an issue. Seele is still Top 3 Solo DPS, JL, Ratio, Seele. This is honestly a nothing burger.
power creep not only refers to new units strictly being stronger than older ones, but also the general increases in team performance and enemy difficulty. both of these things are ramping faster than in genshin, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's part of the reason why we get more free stuff.
There's jingyuan < Kafka but also Blade < Kafka+Black Swan, DHIL < Jing Liu (and of course Dr ratio is a free unit that performs equally at e0 with DHIL) and arguably Luocha < Huo huo. My point is as long as you don't pull for men in this game you should be fine, all men currently are worse than or rarely equal to their female counterparts and not worth pulling anymore on reruns etc. (source: I have only male DPSs so I am seeing all of this happening in real time with each passing day).
@@xed165 Lol as someone who collects all tall females in genshin, I opted to do the same in hsr. I didn't get Topaz though bc I don't like her, and lost 50/50 on RM. Though I got Black Swan and + Kafka might be my strongest team. However, my only sustain are Bailu, fMC and March, and I've always felt like I lacked Luocha so much. I even did a dual carry destruction run in Swarm V, and Argenti outpreformed my JL in sheer damage (though JL was useful for ice dmg and proccing Fighting Spirit). Can't wait for SAM either. Gender not confirmed but I really think he's male regardless despite whatever theory is being thrown around.
@@aramythr5965 I only said all men are worse or equal (I don't think there's is a single one of them who is better on average), Argenti is really good in pure fiction and other game modes potentially but I don't think anyone would trade Jing Liu and Black Swan + Kafka to have Argenti, DHIL and Blade as their main DPS (but this is just my opinion). Imagine someone spending actual money to pull a unit just for the developers to release a free one that clears pretty much the same content at e0 and that person is still missing a good ice weakness DPS. I guess Sparkle may change some of this in the future.
I've said this many times. More pull = more powercreep, that's how gacha games work since the dawn of time, and will forever remain that way. Those extra pulls will depreciate in a faster rate, thus balance out with the fact that they're giving more. But yknow.. Star Rail players are exactly genshin players, clueless normies that can only see on the surface, and make fun of the game in which where they are originated from, when the things they're making fun of aren't even real to begin with, just because all they do is circle jerk each other without any effort to analyse the nuance, or worse, they don't even know that there are nuances.
So let's say we take that at face value right. Which isn't true because power creep would implicate that a lot of the newly released characters fit the meta better than previous generation characters which as of right now outside of. . . realistically Jingyuan which he was already a pretty low end character to begin with and Lunae by Dr Ratio which is the character they gave us for free to begin with, let's just say you did your research which you clearly didn't and say all that's true. . . that's just a false equivalence fallacy. Them giving free stuff will still be better in the long run than not giving free things at all. New limited 5 star =/= better character. And if it doesn't equal that, then your desire to have it is simply that. A desire, it's not going to affect your ability to handle the content. And if it's not affecting your ability to handle the content then it's not power creep in the more proper sense. So you were given free stuff before, and now you can't have a new pretty shiney character here and that makes you equate it to not being given anything free at all from the other group? A bit wild to me.

But, some others also prefer the characters they got will last longer than 6 months even though they got fewer rewards.
@@saddany3254 Sure let me give you an example of each of those in consideration for one another which you did already point out Tingyun glad you did that since she will survive the meta forever considering the value she brings to any team that isn't a dot team and will have a place at any time even without needing E6, which is still valuable because it's so easily acquired. Start with Natasha and Luocha since that was. . . such a nonsensical comparison that it physically hurt me to read when considering that while both are healers they both cover very different variants of content and are not used for the same purpose. Luocha being a heavy single target burst healer with heavy focus on maintaining skill points and removing enemy buffs while buffing his team, Natasha is a slow burn healer that focuses on removing team debuffs and continuous over time healing and damage supplementation. You would not run Natasha on a team that would be better if you replaced her with Luocha. Comparing her to Bailu would be a better comparison but she was a day one regular banner character so that's not possible to compare, then comparing Bailu to Luocha offers the same situational properties of both characters and the consistent roles they are supposed to play. It's not at all in the same realm despite both seeming to do the same thing. Something you'd understand if you did your research but you unfortunately didn't obviously. Moving on to Asta. Asta was /always/ a bottom barrel supplemental support that you'd run only if you literally had nothing better than E6 Asta or for a niche fill spot for certain content where it'd make sense. She is just an inferior version of Bronya for attack increase and speed increase but waaait? You didn't mention Bronya for power creep here? Whyyyy? Oh because she was a day one perma character. Does Ruan Mei surpass Bronya in certain aspects? Absolutely! Does she dwarf her to the point Bronya is no longer applicable in content? Absolutely not. Bronya fills a different role than Ruan Mei and is better in different teams. I'd rather have Bronya for Blade than Ruan Mei every day of the week. So Bronya isn't power crept out of the game either. But you did your research so you understand that too obviously far be it for me to assume you researched anything. Especially on the assumption that Sparkle will be powercreeping Bronya out of the game when her skill is an inferior version that works in more speed focused teams rather than action heavy teams so they won't even be applied in the same way. Like would you use Sparkle with Blade? No probably not considering he isn't using skill points often so that won't work with his and her kit together, and she increases attack whereas Bronya increases flat damage, and Blade scales higher with health than attack so it's a minimal buff. Would you use her with Jing Liu? No probably not, because again she doesn't consume skill points in her enhanced state so she won't be interacting with the talent in her most optimal damage heavy position and is already very skill point effective but not skill point generative which is what you want for sparkle. Would you replace E6 Tingyun with Sparkle in a Jing Liu team? Probably not because the upkeep of Jinglius ult is very important and she already has a cast action twice in a round so running her action forward makes the team composition more complicated and isn't really needed for what she does. But you did your research so all of this is pretty obvious stuff. Now Sampo? Sure I can give you that Black Swan outright replaces Sampo, but Sampo also already actively didn't exist in the game until Kafka, he was a worthless bottom barrel character and his existence only began to even be worth considering because Kafka was introduced to the game. Getting a better variation for him isn't powercreeping an already useless character out of the game, it's making a more niche character, that is Kafka, into a better unit. For people not rolling Black Swan, Sampo still works just fine, and for people rolling for black swan, they finally get to have a worth while Kafka team. The only reason to roll Swan is if you already planned that from the start because you were rolling Kafka. It's not like you'd run Sampo or her on any other team ever. Maybe Black swan can fight into another team with Asta and Guifen but. . . it's sub optimal. But you've done your research so that's obvious yeah?

Jingliu just added an ice version of blade and filled the same exact niche he fills, and neither powercrept Seele because she was still a top DPS, and Lunae wasn't even very strong on release he was just another imaginary option which you could argue got powercrept just now by Dr Ratio, but he is a free unit so it's not like he got pushed down by something you had to save for.

@@echidnabathwater6627i mean powercreep exist in this game like who are we kidding
Like blade as a dps came out got straight up powercrept by kafka then imbibitor lunae came out, he powercrept them all and then jingliu came out ....she powercrept them all....i think power creep is more evident in destruction category as compared to others.....also this game is meta focussed a lot as compared to genshin (at least in terms of spiral and moc wise) like i still remember when argenti's banner came out that moc had skill buff (like how many times we skill) so at that time i had only 2 (kafka and blade) dmg dealing characters and dude playing with blade was sooooo as he always NA that stack would never come up 😢😂
@@krish6925 The fact you think Kafka powerkept Blade is actually an insane thing to me and it hurts my brain to even process how you could think that when dot teams were subpar at best when Kafka got released, subversely Blade was at his strongest with easy access to either Tingyun or Bronya as supports, and Fu coming out as a tank that gave him literally everything he'd ever want in life.
