      a pretty shy man composing jazz-inspired classical music who lived in the soviet union/former soviet union for his whole life and also had a fear of flying. it kinda makes sense why he was so unknown for so long.

      @@Ale-qf1pm I downloaded this from an older video that was uploaded in RUclips, which was up for quite a bit of time. The video was taken down a couple months ago, but I still had the recording saved on my device and I was already making the score video then. I don't know if there's any more places where you can find this recording.

    First time I've listened to the music of Nikolai Kapustin. Reminds me a lot of Lalo Schifrin. I played some of if for my wife and she said it reminds her of the music in the James Bond movies. As a classical music enthusiast for almost 50 years, this is not something I usually look for, but I like Lalo Schifrin so I will definitely seek out more of Kapustin's music.

    2:37 (and it's return at 9:34) is very yes
    and the melody that comes after it in the strings AAHHHHH
    also 8:40 is epic moment as well

      the first melody mentioned also comes back at 12:24 on the oboe/flutes

      the two renditions i mentioned though in the exposition and recapitulation get me like 📈📉📈📈📈📉📉 and it's not the theme alone but also the strings melody that comes right after it that's just so gorgeous

      @@unnamed_boi Yes! - and that string melody does come back in the piano cadenza (14:06) though in a harmonically altered / kapustiny form

      ​@@samaritan29 that melody actually comes just after the part you mentioned as well but much altered, listen carefully to the brass in 12:43 onwards and compare it to the original melody. though just... that original iteration of the melody with the sweeping strings... man that's just so good

      @@unnamed_boi interesting --- i didn't realize that (2:58, 12:43) was just a truncated version of that turn-like gesture (2:48) -- but you're right - the original iteration is still the best!

    Kapustin should be well known at least as Prokofiev. What a musical genius, beautiful melodies and harmonies just flew of him endlessly!

      Hmm... From a classical music perspective, Kapustin's music is a bit too noisy, musically lacking in structure, and emotionally lacking in contemplation.

      @@vivvpprof lol. As far as I’ve seen of the sheet music he just overplays dynamics and tempo changes, but the notes being accurate make it still fun to listen to for me.

      There was a recording available on RUclips, which I have downloaded but was taken down a few months before I made this score-video. I guess I was lucky enough to have saved it xD

    What happened at rehearsal numbers 26 and 27... the pianist is a full eighth note behind the orchestra for much of this segment!

      Yeah it's very unfortunate... I hope this gets another recording xD. As I'm aware of, this is taken from the world premiere of the piece, and I guess since they still don't quite know the piece well enough...

      @@musicboiscores well i wouldnt be so harsh. this is an incredibly difficult work and the orchestra is the orchestra of a college/university, so they are not professionals.

      @@Nooticus That is true, though I do still hope this gets another recording. Incidentally, Dupree is releasing another Kapustin album with the 2nd and 6th concertos in November, so maybe he's saving the 3rd for last (and maybe the first too? Since there's a recent recording of it), so I'm excited for those xd

    If you went into the commentary to understand what is happening with the rhythm in the performance of this wonderful work, then they write that this is a training orchestra. So don’t worry, we just wait for a full-fledged premiere performed by masters, whom there are many who respect Kapustin.
