Pretty sure the kids didn't say anything here, just Alan and Martha. That being said, Judy kept sending glances from Alan to the parents which I also wondered if that meant she remembered but didn't want to say anything in front of her parents.
To be fair, in the og Jumanji, there would have been no way for the kids to acknowledge openly that they remembered Alan and Sarah without their parents being suspicious of how they knew them. I would imagine that they covered that later on after that initial meeting!
Just to parse the ending, Judy and Peter joined Alan and Sarah’ already-in-progress game. Thus once Alan won, everything went back to how it was at the start of the game…in 1969. Had these 4 kids joined Alex’s in-progress game, they would have no memory. But because Jumanji morphed from a board to video game, they started a new game. Zathura was a good sequel before these sequels came out that isn't actually a sequel but I believe is based on the book from the same series Jumanji is from. Kind of wish they would go back and make sequels like they have with Jumanji.
I have a theory about the ending of this movie. However, first, in the first Jumanji film, there was a glimmer of recognition from the other two children when they were "first introduced" after the game was finished. There was something in the smile of those kids that seemed to say "I remember you". Secondly, the ending of the first Jumanji movie had the time reset all at one in a big bang of magical energy. This ending had them exiting the game one at a time starting with Alex. In most media regarding magic and time travel the main people who use magic for the time travel are protected from having mind altering amnesia about past events that now never happened. Since the other four were still in the game when Alex left and therefore altered the timeline in that action all at once I believe they were protected by the magic of game to where the other reality where Alex was missing for 20 years was still in their memories.
Gosh the first Jumanji scared the f outta me as a kid (that first scene where the kid enters Jumanji game me literal nightmares), though I love it now. I liked this one more than I thought when it came out. Very different, glad they didn't try to remake the original.
I like how all of the characters were basically the opposite of their selves. Spencer was physically fit with his knowledge, Fridge was knowledgeable about animals because he thought football was the only thing he was good at, Bethany was cartographer with not traditional good looks realizing she could do more, and Martha was a badass fighter because she didn't realize how much physical activity is important.
As a huge fan of the OG jumanji, I avoided this film for a while but honestly, I think they did a pretty great job with it. I like that it’s sort of an alternate take on how jumanji works, the characters are great, and tbh I don’t mind the way they resolve the time discrepancies. It’s not a time travel film so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to just hand wave stuff happening almost the same. I also think they all kept their memories because they physically went into the game whereas in the original the game manifested in reality. Plus it seems like time works differently within jumanji to begin with.
Jack Black actually made me believe he was a teen girl. How he managed to hit those notes without pushing it into the realm of farsicle parody is a mystery to me.
In the original... The reason why the kids, Peter & Judy, didn't remember is because they weren't born yet unlike Sarah & Alan who went back to being 12.
My parents were hella apprehensive when this came on TV once and I suggested they watch it....they proceeded to laugh their asses off the entire movie and had a great time
My headcanon was that him losing the gem was a scripted event. It wouldn't have mattered who was holding it because it was always meant to be lost at the end of the level.
Excited for this one! Was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Are you planning on tackling the 90s classic, at some point? Love me some Robin Williams. 'Mrs. Doubtfire' remains a household favourite. 😍
It would be really funny if there were bonus scenes where Bethany had her phone with her in jumanji and it did connect with the real world. Instagram posts and maybe some phone calls. The only people that would think it was real would be the original kids from the first movie.
I gotta say, as an occasional watcher of the channel, I really appreciate how good they are at analyzing films. Very consistent too. It enriches my experience in a way that few reactions do. Their dad jokes on the other hand.....
The only real issue i ever had was the "power of the jewel" i mean when the bad guy takes the jewel he gets control over all creatures yet when he loses the jewel he doesn't lose the power, nor does anyone else get power while they posses it.
physical activity is literally proven to improve academic results. just speaking from personal experience, doing sports in high school provided me with the energy and discipline to get my school work done while having a job on the weekends, and many of my athlete friends graduated with high marks. that wasn't true for everyone of course and academics isn't everything, but anyone who tries to diminish the importance of physical activity specifically during school hours is usually wrong. that's not to say that P.E. doesn't have issues that needs to be dealt with or that being "bad" at it should be some sort of indicator of your value as a person, but it's not good for anyone to just sit still on a chair for 6-8 hours per day
Lmao same Steph, I managed to finish the hunger games trilogy while during in school suspension, although after school detention I’m always reading and people wonder why I’m there lmao
Actually for all we know, the 2 kids from the original Jumanji may have remembered once they caught up in their own timeline; their parents still hadn't taken the trip that killed them and Alan and Sarah urged them not to go when they brought it up. It's not out of the question that they would be slammed with memories a few months in the future lol
I’m just not used to seeing comedians act seriously so when Kevin hart gives rock a pep talk it’s funny to me but I also love to see comedic actors in serious roles, shows off their range and it’s actually pretty cool
You 2 are the best! Its so refreshing to see movie reactions with actual insight and commentary into not only whats happening on screen but the lore and backstory! Big fan!
I really enjoyed the fact that they changed the tone for this one cause there was no way they could recapture the tone of the original cause there's no way to replace Robin Williams and his "essence" was an important part of what set the tone of the original. I agree the original was better (other than Empire Strikes Back and Addam's Family Values can you name any other sequels that were better than the first one? True question: I'd love to hear people's ideas for sequels that were better). I appreciate how they dealt with Alex's return to his own timeline. I really appreciated the ending in this one. Thanks for another great movie watching experience; as always, the two of you were great and made my long day better with a few laughs. Keep up the great work.
I always liked to think the drums coming from the jumanji now game kind of hypnotized the players to open the game I love karen gilligan! She’s my favorite companion of the doctor from doctor who!
This Jumanji to me was really amazing and super funny and really heartwarming at times 😊😊😊 although I will always love the original one more I think this one was really cool and I love the different take to it by having it as a video game and them turning as there avatars and the casting in this is phenomenal I mean you got the Rock and Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas and of course Jack black playing as woman in a man’s body what can be better than that 😄and he really nailed it as well goes to show he can play anything. Also I love the special honour to Alan ❤️❤️ Glad you guys enjoyed and watched this movie excited what you do next 😉😉👍👍
This is a movie that I’ll gladly rewatch when it pops up on the channel guide. It always makes me laugh. Lots of well-deserved Jack Black kudos in the comments. Great casting overall. I also enjoyed seeing Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse… acting without all Nebula’s blue makeup and cyborg enhancements.
Lol when the rock mentions his left pec once but doesn’t perform a titty dance in a jungle movie like he usually does😂 (journey to the center of the earth lol)
Loved your reaction! Btw, in regards to the timeline discussion as far as the original movie and which characters remember, my husband and I have a theory. (I’m not sure if someone else in comments said this already. Getting ready for work so I can’t check.) It may be based on who ‘won’ the game as to who remembers. In the original, Alan won and since Judy & Peter were from the future, they didn’t keep their memories. In this one, Spencer ‘won’ (as he put the jewel back). Since he was from the future, he kept his memories (obviously his friends did too since they were from the same timeline. Just like Sarah remembered.) Theoretically, Alex maybe shouldn’t have remembered but he probably needed to make sure the game ended up at the school so the kids get it (for the space-time continuum.) Judy and Peter technically never needed to find the game in the new reality, so they don’t remember.
Her attempting to flirt and Jack black teaching her to flirt is one of the funniest scenes ever 😂 probably the only scene I remember from this movie having haven’t seen it for a couple years
I really like this movie. I always loved the original so I totally went into this movie expecting to dislike it and it surprised me how much I enjoyed it. It's not perfect and has a very different vibe to the original movie, but it's just such a good time.
The weird thing in the original, is we don't know what happened with the kids after, technically! Because we follow Alan and Sarah back to the 60s, jump to them being married in the 90s, and they end up switching up the timeline EVEN FURTHER by introducing themselves to the kids BEFORE their parents died, i.e. before anything happened with the game. And encouraged the parents not to go to where they had their accident! So...that ended up a whole logistical mess that always bothered me as a kid 😂 In this version, it makes sense because they were still IN the game when Alex's timey weirdness happened, so they weren't impacted from it.
Hey, so the difference between the original timeline and this one is that when we see the little kids later at that christmas party it's before they play the game and they affect the kids life directly by preventing their parents from dying. You could then decide yourself if they remember late when they pass the point where they played the game or never remember.
I know it's unlikely but please consider Zathura, it's so underrated and is keeping with the themes established in the original Jumanji but with a scifi twist.
Absolutely love the original Jumanji and can't wait for you to cover it! I recently watched the reboot and thought it was good fun, but did miss the overall sense of danger and dread.
The original jumanji seemed more like a horror movie so I’m kinda glad I didn’t see it as a kid (although I would’ve done it for Robin Williams lol) and this one is more funny and lighthearted which I thoroughly enjoyed despite the many questions and everyone taking a bit to catch up other than that, it was a cool cast with good performances esp Jack black but another board game movie this reminded me of as a kid was zathura which I loved and around the time I also saw another Jack black movie (school of rock🤘🏽) both great movies minus the taking place in space lol
i do really wish that the sequels went into why the jumanji game is what it is in the real world. like, why is it wandering around and getting people trapped in the game? my favorite theory that i've thought of (and i'd love to know everyone's thoughts on this) is that the actual land jumanji was so corrupted/cursed/taken over by evil that it would always attract people with a drive to "win" in the face of a challenge (hence it always being a game) to help push back against the evil powers taking it over. like maybe there's a well-intentioned but desperate magic-doer who opened a "portal" (the game) to find help from other worlds (earth), and maybe you have to willingly start the game yourself rather than just getting sucked in at random because this supposed magic-doer is still not desperate enough to just force random innocent heroes into her world to save her beloved land. idk my head runs wild with theories but please PLEASE reply with more because this shit drives me bonkers and its SO fun to think about different possibilities behind the existence of the game. then again, maybe the reason for the game's and jumanji's existence is solely due to something in the real world... hmm (also does anyone remember the scene in the OG jumanji movie where two boys originally buried the game, but like centuries before allen found it? i wonder if that adds anything to the conversation...)
i absolutely enjoyed this one as a companion piece to the original and the sequel was fun too. i'm curious if you guys would ever watch "zathura," which is the space-themed spin off of the original jumanji. i honestly don't think too many people even know of its existence despite how popular jumanji has been the last few decades
Thing is it's not a video game, it's pretending to be one. Don't know why it wants to be some kind of therapy boot camp. But it clearly cheats in favor causing people to grow. So things like the jewel popping out of the bag feels like the DM tweaking the dice to me.
I think in the original the whole thing was once you beat it, everything returns to as it was, while in this version they just get sent home from where they started. Regarding timeline stuff, the kids from the original were still born so I notice it doesn’t get rid of the existence of some kids, but it can add on to it, thus why Alex’s kids exist. That’s just my thought process though
27:18 I wonder if that lifelong trauma is why in the 2nd movie she doesn’t really go to that jungle in the beginning she just takes a pic in front of a backdrop
I think that in terms of the timeline because they were still all in the game it basically protected them from losing their memories. That or because we actually see get out... at the end of the original we see the kids before they lost there parents so the were younger then the were when they played jumanji so for all we know they could've got the memories of both timelines when time caught up to the day they played
Part one or the original is a classic however part two wasn't bad. I genuinely liked it and how it tied into part one without trying to be too much like it.
Excellent point about gym teachers not being valued enough. I hated sports at school, and yet I can't think of ONE bad PE teacher in all my school years. Not one. They were understanding, they pushed us but not beyond our limit, and managed to deal with students in pretty chaotic situations. I always remember more academic teachers fondly, like the one who made me love writing, or the one who made me love ancient history, but thinking back... all my gym teachers were very good!
you've clearly never met my high school pe teacher then. That woman was sued multiple times and was absolutely horrible and yet she never lost her job somehow.
I cant relate as someone who had a horrific bully of a pe teacher who should never have been teaching young children, an incompetent guy who spread harmful health information, and two extremely apathetic woman who ignored bullying and didn't get that having health issues means maybe I need a break when I say so (once claimed running might help my migraine) and to be allowed to go to the nurse for my meds!
In the original the kids weren't born yet when the game actually started and we see them again before their parents died. This time the parents are saved so they never become the troubled kids they had been, so this younger version of them won't end up playing the game and having those memories.
im so glad that they don’t try to rehash anything in the og movie, that this is a stand alone in the same universe

The way I immediately recognized Rhys Darby too haha, I've watched "Our Flag Means Death" a few too many times lol Sooo hyped for season2!
Gosh the first Jumanji scared the f outta me as a kid (that first scene where the kid enters Jumanji game me literal nightmares), though I love it now. I liked this one more than I thought when it came out. Very different, glad they didn't try to remake the original.
I still can’t handle the giant spiders scene
Yeah I cried when Alan got sucked into the game!
"there's no better place for self-reflection, than detention" homage to the breakfast club maybe?
If you want to do the sequel to this one, it’s a blast to watch the character switching so I’d have fun watching y’all watch it!
In the original...
The reason why the kids, Peter & Judy, didn't remember is because they weren't born yet unlike Sarah & Alan who went back to being 12.
I think you guys need some merch that says "fair enough"!! That would be great 😂
The best thing of this movie is Jack Black playing a teenage girl. He does it so well
My parents were hella apprehensive when this came on TV once and I suggested they watch it....they proceeded to laugh their asses off the entire movie and had a great time
Jack Black was the perfect casting choice for the teenage girl something I didn't know I needed
I love the love for Rhys Darby, he is just an excellent human being
My headcanon was that him losing the gem was a scripted event.
It wouldn't have mattered who was holding it because it was always meant to be lost at the end of the level.
I tell you this was one of the best experiences of being 17. I was so happy to see one of the naked brothers band back
Excited for this one!
I would love a fanfic of that!
It’s so funny watching Alex Wolff in such a cute high schooler role after Hereditary 😂
Should have played Don’t You Forget About Me when they came out of detention.
Am I the only one who views these vids as a comfort show and rewatches them constantly? 😅
Nope. You aren't alone in that.
physical activity is literally proven to improve academic results. just speaking from personal experience, doing sports in high school provided me with the energy and discipline to get my school work done while having a job on the weekends, and many of my athlete friends graduated with high marks. that wasn't true for everyone of course and academics isn't everything, but anyone who tries to diminish the importance of physical activity specifically during school hours is usually wrong. that's not to say that P.E. doesn't have issues that needs to be dealt with or that being "bad" at it should be some sort of indicator of your value as a person, but it's not good for anyone to just sit still on a chair for 6-8 hours per day
1:26:46 This part always makes me cry, idk why but that appreciation and gratitude that Alex has for Bethany always get me 😅❤
Lmao same Steph, I managed to finish the hunger games trilogy while during in school suspension, although after school detention I’m always reading and people wonder why I’m there lmao
BEGGING yall to do the sequel
I always liked to think the drums coming from the jumanji now game kind of hypnotized the players to open the game
I love karen gilligan! She’s my favorite companion of the doctor from doctor who!
Jack black’s reaction to the intense smolder is so real lmfao and popular girl being attracted to nerd guy for a minute is too funny to see
The 2nd movie "return to the jungle" is also hilarious on a whole other level!
You should see the sequel to this!!!
We will 😊 - Sam
59:25 Interesting fact! That leg move is actually used among some professional bodygaurds! It's a flying variant of the scissor leg takedown.
Love how margarita is almost everyone’s first alcoholic beverage bc same😂 except I waited till 21 to begin alcoholism like a goody two shoes lmaoo
0:04 that’s my name 😱 it was like they’re talking to me 😂😂😂
I love this movie so much, jack black and Kevin heart really played there parts so well 😂, also I love your videos you guys are awesome!
I finally saw these two new ones this year and I was surprised how much I liked them!
So...that ended up a whole logistical mess that always bothered me as a kid 😂
In this version, it makes sense because they were still IN the game when Alex's timey weirdness happened, so they weren't impacted from it.
Oh god rock’s character trying to give her a hug saying “gimme a hug gf” is the equivalent to “where’s my hug” god I just got the ick
Such a great cast! Especially Jack Black, who is unforgettable 😄👏🏻
I'm a huge fan of the original Jumanji but absolutely loved this too. Jack Black really made it for me tbh! He's just hilarious and sweet.
Hey, so the difference between the original timeline and this one is that when we see the little kids later at that christmas party it's before they play the game and they affect the kids life directly by preventing their parents from dying. You could then decide yourself if they remember late when they pass the point where they played the game or never remember.
Ehehe "That's what this thing is missing. More child trauma." XD
I loved Jack Black in this.
Alex Wolf all grown up in this movie after seeing him as a kid in the Naked Brothers Band
i do really wish that the sequels went into why the jumanji game is what it is in the real world. like, why is it wandering around and getting people trapped in the game? my favorite theory that i've thought of (and i'd love to know everyone's thoughts on this) is that the actual land jumanji was so corrupted/cursed/taken over by evil that it would always attract people with a drive to "win" in the face of a challenge (hence it always being a game) to help push back against the evil powers taking it over. like maybe there's a well-intentioned but desperate magic-doer who opened a "portal" (the game) to find help from other worlds (earth), and maybe you have to willingly start the game yourself rather than just getting sucked in at random because this supposed magic-doer is still not desperate enough to just force random innocent heroes into her world to save her beloved land. idk my head runs wild with theories but please PLEASE reply with more because this shit drives me bonkers and its SO fun to think about different possibilities behind the existence of the game. then again, maybe the reason for the game's and jumanji's existence is solely due to something in the real world... hmm
(also does anyone remember the scene in the OG jumanji movie where two boys originally buried the game, but like centuries before allen found it? i wonder if that adds anything to the conversation...)
I think as long as you don't think about it toooo much, this movie is fun as hell. Really hope y'all do the sequel and original!
i absolutely enjoyed this one as a companion piece to the original and the sequel was fun too. i'm curious if you guys would ever watch "zathura," which is the space-themed spin off of the original jumanji. i honestly don't think too many people even know of its existence despite how popular jumanji has been the last few decades
Thing is it's not a video game, it's pretending to be one. Don't know why it wants to be some kind of therapy boot camp. But it clearly cheats in favor causing people to grow. So things like the jewel popping out of the bag feels like the DM tweaking the dice to me.
57:25 She's doing the Nebula voice from her character in Guardians of the Galaxy.
You're trying to get them adhere too closely to video game logic for...a magic game
I mean Jumanji would probably become one of those bloatware games that you can't delete off of your phone.
I loved your reaction! Please do the sequel! It’s so much fun 👏🏼
Okay, so the tiny moment of panic when I heard "Cheyenne" at the beginning 😂
I love this movie one of my faves! I love that someone makes a reaction video about it!!! keep it up yu guys are great!!❤😊😄
Part one or the original is a classic however part two wasn't bad. I genuinely liked it and how it tied into part one without trying to be too much like it.
I loved this version of the movie and loved the sequel even more.
I like the ending with the time travel thing because I felt bad for the boys dad
18:43 he’s also in Our Flag Means Death I love that show so much 😍
I always loved the narrator guy only because I knew him as Coran Coran the gorgeous man.
